babysitter for 7-month old?

i let my sittercity account expire, and now i need a backup babysitter since ours is unavailable tonight... anyone have an option in a pinch? we're in West Walker area - Independence Park. EveryBlock found us an awesome daycare with Mother Earth on Pulaski, so I figured I'd give it a go for babysitting options, too!

  • Judy 20 years in Irving Park

I have a 16 year old daughter that does a lot of babysitting in the area. We're just west of you in Irving Park and members of IPLC. I'm sure we could furnish references also. She's available on a regular basis and might be a good back up option!

  • Carla Mom to three, Grandmom to one

I have a teenage daughter who attends Lane Tech H.S. Probably best to schedule a few interviews and have a few choices for the future.

Speed Limit Cameras on Foster

How can we volunteer to have Foster Avenue, between Elston and Kimball, set as the first area to test the speed-limit cameras?

This section of Foster is clearly posted as a 30 MPH zone, yet because of the large area of parks and little parking there is a very large amount of speeding down this street. It's a real threat to pedestrians, senior citizens, children, bicyclists, and other using the public streets.

This would be a good place to test the system. Speed limit signs are clearly posted along the route and new signs wouldn't even be needed.

Inssane,Bob goes back to the rhetoric of Bill Clinton,"It all depends on what your definition of is is"". I think if Bob ever got arrested,he could truthfully tell the officers arresting him that he doesn't understand his miranda rights.

  • Bob Kastigar 15 Years North Park, bike rider, retired

Miranda rights relate to criminal law.

Traffic violations are part of civil law.

Let's try and stay on the issue here.

Slow down, save lives, increase safety, avoid accidents and tickets.

DONUTS!!

So last night I was watching Chicago's Best on WGN and they were in the South suburbs at a Donut Shop. I am now craving a good, no wait, GREAT donut. For those of you who love Dunkin Donuts (I'm not knocking it, just not a huge fan), please don't suggest. Mind you, In a craving donut crunch, I will go to good ol' DD but now I'm in pursuit of a REALLY, REALLY good donut place in our area. Thanks and Happy Monday!

Sauganash area Alert

Please be on the watch for a maroon car 4-door small, lots of chrome.

On 5/12/12, a friend's daughter was walking the dog and saw this car parked in the neighborhood (Sauganash Woods). There were 2 men in the car, around 50 years old, one with long dark hair (at the shoulders), possibly Hispanic or Native American. They were looking at her as she walked by.

About 2 hours later, a friend's son was walking the dog and this car pulled up, the driver motioned him to come to the car. The passenger GOT OUT OF THE CAR, started walking toward him and started asking him for directions. My son said nothing to him and immediately ran away from him and ran home. A police report was made.

About 2 months ago, the same described car was in this area and approached another girl. In that incident, there was a man and woman in the car. Male with same long haired description. A police report was made.

What You Can Do

. Be aware of this situation and alert neighbors in the area about the crime.

How Many Ways Do You Engage?

Fantastic to see so much activity on EB and it is still growing. Wondering if you engage with neighbors and citizens in other ways too specifically around community issues and activities. Maybe Twitter? Belong to your local civic group? An advocacy group? Block club? What else?

Summer Camp at Eugene Field Park

Eugene Field Park at 5100 N. Ridgeway still has openings for summer camp! They offer daycamp from 9-3pm and Extended Camp (for working families) from 3-6pm. It’s a popular program. Parents can receive 50% off the fee if their child gets free or reduced lunch at school. They would just need to get the lunch letter from school stating they get free or reduced lunch.

Summer Camp lasts Monday, June 25 through Friday, August 3. Ages 6-13. $333 for traditional camp and $167 for extended camp option. Register online chicagoparkdistrict.com or visit the Field House.

Other areas of the city have waitlists for summer camp-- so lets make sure all of our kids have somewhere to be this summer.

It's a nice camp. My son's never attended, but I've done some activities with the kids and the counselors are really motivated. I run the park garden and we're bringing in a multi-session garden program for the campers this summer.

Renting foreclosed condos

My in-laws recently rented an apt. near Rockwell and Lunt. What wasn't disclosed to them by the condo. association president was that the unit was being foreclosed. I have a feeling my in-laws may not be the only ones this has happened to in the building.

Anyone else had problems like this in the neighborhood? What did you do? The thought of this woman taking advantage of more unsuspecting people disgusts me.

Loading loading

  • I failed to mention in my post that the unit is not under the association's possession. It had/has an owner who lives out-of-state. The unit was foreclosed or in process of being foreclosed when it was rented. The association had not legally obtained the unit to pay for any debt the owner owed the association.

  • Darrin Greenview Terrace Association Member

Oh... well, there are some shady people out there. Don't put all the blame on the Association President, half the time unit owners don't even notify the board that they have tenants moving in.

From New Bike Racks - where did they come from?:

"Just curious about the new bike racks you see through Lakeview. They are cool colors and in the shape of a bike. I like them and just wondering if they were purchased by the city or some how locally. Any comments would be helpful?"
