Sophie is about 6 years old and Roxy is about 7 years old. Both of them are indoor cats, have their front claws removed, and are spayed. They are up-to-date with all shots. They are potty trained and use a nice concealed litter box that I am willing to provide as well as an automatic feeder.
They are very cuddly and love to sit on laps and snuggle in cat beds. They keep one another company so it is not a problem if you are gone for work all day or want them to sleep separate from where you sleep. Sophie can be shy sometimes, but she warms up very quickly and then just wants to sit on your lap. Roxy and Sophie are very fun and play with cat toys as well as each other all the time. They are both excellent with strangers and little kids.

I was coming home on the bus and they re-routed it at Michigan and 24th. A man and I decided to get off and walk the rest of the way to 26th St. There were police who were blocking the street. I figured all I needed to do is show my driver's license and they'd see where I lived and let me through. After all, the police notified our building to keep an i.d. on us for the duration of the NATO conference. I told the cop that I live in South Commons. He said "Sorry, we can't let you through." I asked why. He replied "You don't wanna know." Another officer said at the same time "They've found a bomb in a car." He pointed about a block down.So the Chinese man (who's visiting from China and been here about a week visiting relatives) followed me to Wabash, where we then walked South. We walked till we got near I-55 and came to a border of security fences. I didn't know if we tried to walked along the fence, we could get through to Michigan Avenue. I saw some police driving slowly past on the other side of the fence. I flagged them down. I asked if we could get through if we walk along the side of the fence to Michigan Ave. They said yes. We squeezed through the area and came out on Michigan Ave. at the I-55 bridge. We saw cop cars blocking access to the bridge from 26th St. When the man and I got to 26th St. they didn’t question us. I don’t know if the info on the bomb has been on the news yet, but we were re-routed at about 6:45 pm.

Street closings for NATO Summit

Justin K. McKinley Parker since 2008, south sider since 1998If you thought Venetian Night was bad for traffic, nothing will beat NATO TRAFFIC MADNESS! The cynic in me wonders how many of these closures don't relate to security, but instead are designed to limit protesters' access to getting their message across.
We were thinking of heading to the kite festival in Lincoln Park on the 19th ... not too sure if that's a good idea now. I'll have to see if my better half can work from home on the 21st, too.
Also, Becca, congrats on your pomotion!

Clark and Roosevelt mystery crosswalk/stoplight
Q: There’s a working stoplight on Clark south of Roosevelt, that doesn’t seem to have any purpose or function. What’s the deal with this vestigial traffic light?
A: The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) installed this signal during the 2004 rehab of the Clark/Roosevelt intersection, when the Clark underpass was built, says spokesman Pete Scales. The stoplight was included for a future access road to a housing development planned for the vacant land southwest of the intersection. “That massive redevelopment project never got off the ground,” Scales says. “At this point it might take more money to remove the stoplight than leave it in.”

What a pity they don't add to the light heading west when exiting the mall at Canal and Roosevelt, where Whole Foods is. The light has space for a left turn, but no left turn signal. Then again, on Canal heading south the light at Roosevelt only is timed for 3 cars tops--which also makes NO sense. And causes gridlock daily.
-
Steven Vance Urban plannerA close succession of signals, not a single signal, in addition to a high volume of traffic, can cause gridlock when they aren't timed in concert. This may be the case at Roosevelt and Canal because of the nearby lights at Clinton, Jefferson, and Desplaines.
All four directions at Roosevelt and Canal have left-turn signals. If something has changed in the month or two since I've been through here, I'll have to check out what you're describing.
