Proposed Chicago Homeless Housesitter Program (CHH)

How we might salve two open wounds by applying them to each other...

To the Honorable Aldermen and Mayor of the Great City of Chicago

June 20, 2017

How can we morally as a civil society allow these two images to exist side-by-side?

An open proposal for the establishment of the "Chicago Homeless Housesitter Program"

https://www.gallantgoose.com/proposed-chicago-homeless-housesitter-program-chh/

  • CJC Homeowner since 2000

If the selected “Housesitter” has difficulty in establishing accounts with said providers because of past credit problems, the City of Chicago will guarantee the account(s).
If half these "Housesitters" default on their utilities payments, the city will be stuck with $10's of millions in bills, and can Chicago really afford that? Didn't they just raise our property taxes by 10%? We all know who will end up paying for this program, we the Tax Payers, not the Banks.

  • Father Greg God knows what you did...

As the article states, this proposal is a general and non-vetted proposal. Several of you bring up interesting points which could be woven into the terms and conditions. Some of you missed the point. Guaranteeing establishment of utility accounts is not the same is guaranteeing the payment of the utility...

As the article states, this proposal is a general and non-vetted proposal. Several of you bring up interesting points which could be woven into the terms and conditions. Some of you missed the point. Guaranteeing establishment of utility accounts is not the same is guaranteeing the payment of the utility accounts.

There would be strict application criteria and qualifying candidates would have to have no history of crimes and be employed.

For those who ask why should they just not go rent an apartment, its because their credit rating got destroyed in foreclosure and landlords won't risk them.

Banks are already paying real estate service companies to babysit and cut grass etc. but they are not there every day to make sure the building is protected or to report problems. This would re-direct the money the Banks are already paying, and save the banks the cost of keeping up the utilities - all until they finally find a real purchaser who will live there.

As for those with concerns about how the people would treat the building and what to do if they didn't hold up their end of the bargain - the rules would have them on the street faster than any eviction process in town.

Finally - for those who think the city should give them a job - well thanks for nothin' as your suggestion would no doubt come with yet another tax increase to raise the funds for their salaries!

Now who is being the silly liberal there?

Please reconsider your comments and make positive suggestions which might make this a better proposal - and post them on the comment section of the blog.

Anyone know if they are still building Aldi, Binny's, Starbucks, etc? There's so much potential for this intersection and neighborhood, why does it still look like an ghost town?

  • Hope this is not a bait and switch meaning the building turns out to be mostly servicing walk-in clinic 'treatments' and only incidentally housing a few people upstairs.

  • I like this idea. People visiting friends and family in the building will visit local stores and restaurants. Can that be a bad thing?

This is the first hiring preference for City of Chicago positions that is targeted at CPS students. The General Laborer position will be the first position that utilizes the CPS preference. DHR will ensure that at least 25% of the candidates referred to the department for hiring consideration are CPS graduates. In order to receive the preference, applicants must attach their CPS high school transcripts or diploma at the time of application.
