Looking to Form Local Arts 7 Culture Group

Greetings! I am seeking to speak with Chatham and Park Manor residents interested in forming an arts and culture non-profit. Our community is facing some very tough times and we may be able to help make a difference with our passion for the arts and culture. Who's on board? Any genuinely interested parties can contact me at peacenjazz [at] gmail [dot] com. Let's powwow and see what we can do to help our community! Take care and BE the peace you seek.

Well, I've been wanting to start some kind of outreach program for the kids in theatre. We've only got one theatre on the south side and that's ETA Creative Arts. There's no reason why we can't have as vibrant a theatre community on the south side as they do on the north side. But in order to get people to come see theatre, we need to start with the kids. Unfortunately, black people have become used to what they see on the "Chittlin' circuit" and are not exposed to other forms of theatre. That has got to change. I'm willing to get something started.

  • Please contact the individual in the post as she is really serious about this.

Newsalert: Rahm Emanuel Considers Closing 100 Chicago Public Schools

From the Newsalert Blog http://nalert.blogspot.com/2012/04/rahm-emanuel-considers-closing-100.html
A source with close ties to Chicago's public education establishment has confirmed that Rahm Emanuel may close 100 Chicago public schools. Along with the closures will come a vast expansion of charter schools. Emanuel has 150 half empty public schools that are a drain on tax dollars. With Chicago, having lost 200,000 people in the last Census: change is in the air. The only question now is will Rahm make the announcement Tuesday or Wednesday in San Francisco, or in the coming weeks? Can Rahm go to war with the teachers unions and win? Stay tuned....UPDATE- Rahm will not make the big announcement in San Francisco.

  • Thank Jesus, It was closed for at 6 months at one point 2 or 3 years ago and I never knew why. I go that way daily to avoid Jeffrey to go to west on 83rd.

  • Steven Vance Urban planner

This is great news for so many people. It reopens avoided connections, especially for those walking and biking.

  • I can definitrly deal with it being closed for a month so it can be fixed.

From New Bike Racks - where did they come from?:

"Just curious about the new bike racks you see through Lakeview. They are cool colors and in the shape of a bike. I like them and just wondering if they were purchased by the city or some how locally. Any comments would be helpful?"
