Skinner Park Dog Park

There is a new dog park that looks to be completed but has been locked (with padlock) since the construction tarp came off the gates. I'm anxious to start bringing my dog here because I live so close but not sure of an actual opening date. I haven't been able to find anything by searching online. Does anyone else know anything? The location is on Monroe between Loomis and Throop (closer to Loomis on the North side of the street).

    Just got off the line with the field house and they reported to me that it "should be opening this week." That's pretty much all they had for me, but it's great that it'll be open soon!

  • Thanks Chris! I'll be stalking the place every evening with my dog to see when it finally opens. If it doesn't open this week I'll be sure to call.

Restaurant/new building at Madison/Carpenter - What happened?

Hi, wondering if anyone knows anything about the status of the building at the NE corner of Madison and Carpenter (roughly 1050 W Madison)?

I know it was being built in 2012 and early 2013, and the initial announcements in Chicago magazine and places like that said it was going to be a restaurant - but it seems like the builders got about 80% done and then.....nothing. Work hasn't gone any farther, and it's just sitting there empty.

Anyone have any info, or suggestions on finding out what's happening?

    1. build out on schedule (8 months behind schedule).
    2. build out to the orginal spec's.
    3. honor the contract for taxes, rent abatement or the future event space (3rd/4th floor).
    4. prove to be a professional developer.
    5. return the money put down...

    5. return the money put down for plumbing of the foundation (which, as it turns out, was not SOP and really deceptive).

    .....and now sits with a shell of a building, as he should. Bank pressure to follow soon.

    The lessee did go on to open 2 other successful restaurants since this.

  • The developer has also left behind a huge dumpster, which people are beginning to throw other trash into and which is attracting rodents.

    (We live right near it and it's getting gross.)

The IMDC has been working for years to find a suitable project to fill nearly 9.5 acres of vacant land, hoping to bring more life to the district dominated by hospitals and medical facilities, and after a request for proposals, have approved this plan. The $300 million tab will be picked up by the project's developers. Construction is slated to begin in spring of 2015.
