Edgewater Play Groups?
Hi-am soon going to become a mom and although I have plenty of time to research this, I was just curious how does one go about joining or collaborating with other parents with small children and infants in the area? Are there playgroups or parent groups/organizations in the neighborhood? I would like to hear your suggestions for those parents raising children in the city, and especially here in Edgewater-thanks!

Outdoor or Missing Kitty?
This little kitty has been coming around our building on the 1200 block of Elmdale for the last 3-4 weeks. Kitty may simply be an outdoor cat, but I thought I'd post here to see if anyone in the neighborhood might be missing this little one. Looks about 4 or 5 lbs., very slight build, blue eyes, affectionate (I think female), with a red collar. I've started feeding/watering her in the last few days (always hungry and thirsty).

She's a 10 y/o Bengal but looks much younger than her age. I'm sorry if she has been pestering you. Both of my cats are indoor/outdoor (they have a pet door that they use). She tends to prowl much more frequently in the warmer weather; I've not seen her all day today since she came home to eat last night (trust me, she eats well at home, she just doesn't put on weight very easily due to stomach issues, so she eats only certain foods). I appreciate you looking after her.

Blastomycosis outbreak in Chicago?
Hi, Just read this article about a potential outbreak of blastomycosis, an invisible toxins dogs inhale and often die from. It mentions Hollywood Park, Legion Park, North side 60659 area.
http://www.dogheirs.com/events/409
Please check it out and if you walk your dogs there, don't until we learn more. And if it's true, these areas should be roped off! My friend's dog Audrey is currently battling blasto and it's a tough road ahead, not to mention crazy-expensive. Please check out info about Audrey progress. There's a lot of valuable info for dog owners to be learned at this site.

Thank god the vet took into considertion her hsitory and treated her without agressive medications that could have done more damage . Preventing it frm hitting the brain and eyes seems to be overlooked by many during my readings. Mostlyi see otehr drugs listed. I havent heard from Whitey or Ann in a few days and no longer hear him barking. No response to email. I pray.

Thanks Ky. I am so alarmed by the silence from A.. & Whitey. I have not updated you, but have 2 very dear friends who know them very well. I will try call them tomorrow to see if they have heard anything about Whitey. I will think only good thoughts for both of them. If I hear anything in next few days, I'll post here for you. I pray it's good news!!! Take care Ky.

Edgewater’s Metropolis Coffee at NATO Summit
One Edgewater businessman has been cleared by the State Dept. to be at the McCormick Place NATO conference on Sunday and Monday. He will be serving the morning coffee to anywhere from 1 to 500 foreign journalists along with pastry from Hoosier Momma Pie Company in Ukranian Village. If you are watching a telecast of the Conference and see a paper cup from Metropolis Coffee, you are not imagining.

Action for Children is a great resource. They can give you plenty of listings for daycare centers, nannies, in-home providers, drop-in service, emergency care service, etc. I used it and found an in-home provider who is in the Andersonville/Edgewater area. She is an in-home provider and takes in babies from 6 weeks up to 12 years, but most of the children there are around 1-2 years. She has a big, clean home and lots of activities for the children. She is also licensed, which is good. If you're interested, feel free to send me a message and I can pass on her information.

why do you have to pay impound fees if you are a victim of a crime?
-
PhoebeK10 Rogers Parker since 1991wow. Recovering stolen merchandise is pretty rare, from what I hear. Glad to hear you got your bike back. Sorry to hear it was stripped and dropped. Was it dusted for prints? Is CPD pursuing leads to arrest the thief/ thieves so maybe you could also recover the fees? Sux that your baby was stolen, but it's practically a miracle you got it back. Of course (being the victim of theft, I'm speaking from personal experience), you'll NEVER recover the time and aggravation.

It's not a hard carpentry project to put up wall shelves, box around them, and cover with old windows on hinges. The shelves need not be deep, Even a shallow cabinet is handy.
I replaced a bunch of old windows and recycled many of them. But I would have rather have repaired them if possible. Even when I used high quality windows from Marvin, I know that given the extensive use of plastic and foam, there is no way the new windows are going to last a 100 years like the old windows.

When your child gets a little bit older check out Chicago's park district programs. The Broadway Armory is doing some major renovation and they are adding a ton of great new programs that are extremely affordable. I signed up for their adult yoga class so I could get back into my post baby body. That class has helped me keep my sanity, especially after having my second child.
I agree with Crys that the park district programs can be great for both child and parent. We have had great experiences with Ms Jessica and Ms Daneen at the tumbling program at the Armory. (The Gill Park swimming program is also awesome). BUT all the programs are not of...

I agree with Crys that the park district programs can be great for both child and parent. We have had great experiences with Ms Jessica and Ms Daneen at the tumbling program at the Armory. (The Gill Park swimming program is also awesome). BUT all the programs are not of the same quality AND the online signup is a disaster AND if you then have to wait in line in person to sign up: it will turn you off the entire program!
If you make the effort to talk with other parents while you are watching your kids at park district programs - that informal network of parents provides real-time scuttlebutt on the ins and outs of raising a kid in the city.
Also wiggleworms starts as early as 6 months old and is another great program for the kid, and for the adult to meet other cool parents
