Of course they just relocate! We all know that. The issue is that there was an open, flagrant, drug structure on City property and a Park. There are all kinds of government workers providing service to those grounds. WHY???? Didn't city workers shut this drug dealing hut down?

One is also naive to think...that our government is powerless to clean up this mess. Look at other neighborhoods with normal functioning economies and compare it to the vacant, empty, violent, blighted, dirty areas of the south and west sides.

  • Once again, if one goes to the "West" side(Austin neighborhood), it is not dirty, blighted, empty, and vacant. Actually, much cleaner than Cragin where I live. I go into the Austin area every day, do home visits. Now, violent, yes, according to police reports.

Yes, the government can help, but it can't do it all itself.

    Alan,
Your oversimplified respone suggests that you missed the point. The concept being illustrated is selective or prejudicial law enforcement, judicial process, and incarceration. If you don't believe that these concepts exist, I'm not sure what more I can do to demonstrate them to you? Of course personal responsibility factors largely into the equation! I never said it didn't. We can all acknowledge that fact. I wish you would have the courage to acknowledge institutional prejudice in our law enforcement and legal systems. Let me ask you, if you lived in an area where crime, lawlessness, and anti-social behavior was all you were exposed to, how likely would you be to participate in some way? If you went to a crappy school, your parents were in jail or on drugs, there were no meaningful jobs available, and you had to hustle on the street to survive... what would you do? I'm not justifying anti-social behavior but it certainly would seem logical that if you lived in these conditions, the behavior would be more statistically likely. Working the fryer at McD's isn't getting anyone out of this situation. Is $1300/month enough to pay for rent and necessities to live? I couldn't do it, could you? I think you need some insight to the environment you are so harshly judging? It might provide some perspective. All people deserve justice! Too bad only some people regularly get it!:(

$1,300 a month could be enough to live if you are part of say some family, group home where everyone contributes something for expenses.
