  • Second City Cop must be all over this story, right? Right?

  • alex trebeck Ukrainian Village since 1990

Fortunately, the IL Supreme Court just ended the prohibition against photographing cops. (The police sure didnt want that to happen.) The army of public camera phones should discourage some of the bad behavior, and will also help document those who cant help themselves.

Car Accident on Ashland

Did anybody else witness the incident on the 2500 block of Ashland last night? Somebody was severely injured right outside my apartment and I can't seem to find any news on the story or his condition.

  • Nobody? This guy was hurt pretty bad, I wont get graphic. I cannot believe I haven't seen a single thing in the news. My sympathies go out to him and his family and friends.

Gunfire in Logan Square

At 11 p.m. last night there was a flurry of gunfire on Mozart - just south of Armitage. There were about ten shots then it was over. Police arrived shortly after. Any idea what happened?

  • Jeff Dog lover

No idea (sorry), but considering that is less than a half block from the police station, I'd certainly hope they could get there quickly.

    Whoops, sorry, meant half mile.

  • They did but still scary!

46th Ward Resident, Work in 1st Ward

New Residential Zone Guest Passes Starting May 1st.

The 1st ward office of Alderman Moreno will have new residential zone guest passes available for purchase starting May 1st. These do not expire until June 30th, 2013.

  • Rudy 46th Ward Resident, Work in 1st Ward

@Nina- They are $8.00 for a book of 15 passes

@Skelts- if i'm not mistaken no, technically they should have one on one a day, not all at once. They could potentially receive a ticket for that if it gets noticed by a revenue agent.

  • NOYB like a good neighbor.....

Last year if you tried to buy the guests permits online you had to buy a minimum of 2 packs. I only need one for the year, b/c I don't have that many guests that come. If you buy two packs that is $16 or more than half the price for your annual sticker of $25. Why can't I buy one packet online?

Looking to move to dog friendly building

I love my neighborhood and would love to find a two bedroom nearby. But I can't seem to find a quality place that will take me and my Charlie. He is a 7 lb. Maltese. I've looked on Craigslist but the only places I find are in Albany Park or further south. Anyone know of any websites besides Craigslist and Domu that can help me find a good home? I've even contacted ApartmentPeople.com but I wasn't impressed.

  • Aljack Investments 773 588-1414 - all tenants have dogs or cats. Mitchell Zamost is the landlord. I am there now with a bunch of cats. All buildings (he has several) are near Elston/Irving Park/Addison and Drake/Bernard areas.

  • Charlie and I are happy to report that we found a place in Lincoln Square and filled out the paperwork already. We'll know by the end of next week whether we will be calling this place home or not. Thanks for all your help.

Recommendation for a chill party for 25 friends?

Does anyone have a recommendation of a fun bar/restaurant/lounge for a birthday party for approximately 25 friends? I'm not intersted in a wrist band party or one that requires a downpayment of $1000 for holding space & appetizers (I would be willing to pay, just not that much). Just something simple, good music, good drinks, not too crowded on a Saturday at 7:30 pm. Prefer within a few blocks of the Damen/Chicago area.
Thanks!

There is a nice place called Angels on approx 300 S. Ashland. They have a garden. AND restaurant.com coupons for a big discount!

  • You could try contacting poggled.com. They do parties, and with their connections should be able to find something that works for you. I haven't dealt with them for party planning, but my general customer service interactions with them have been very positive.

More on the Art Fests

And, back to the art fair issue....I've come into further information on this issue that is pertinent and enlightening.

And, back to the art fair issue....I've come into further information on this issue that is pertinent and enlightening.

With regard to the 10% Bill Morton talked about:
A non-profit group usually doesn't have the wherewithal to undertake all the expenses for a festival such as insurance, bonds, etc. So, what they do is partner with one of the business groups or chamber or other entity that can underwrite the event as part of their umbrella. They are acting as what's known as a "fiduciary agent". The standard fee for this agency is usually 10%. This is not a political donation, it's not money for a political purpose and it's not money for anything other than the event and its business operating expenses.
I hope this clears up any confusion.

In addition, there's also the issue of how the "Save the Neighborhood Art Fairs" petition arose. It was my mistake in calling the elimination of fee waivers an "ordinance". I'm sorry if that was misleading...I had been mislead to believe it was an actual ordinance change. I've since been educated further to the exact nature of the change. It happened thusly:

The Chicago 2012 budget was being considered and voted on in the city counsel in November. There were a few Aldermen who had discussions on the elimination of a line item in the proposed budget that was allocated for discretionary Aldermanic spending for fee waivers of various type. According to Joe Moore, Alderman of the 49th ward, there were only a few aldermen that understood the nature of the line item elimination and who had even discussed the possible outcomes of the change.

Moore admits that most of the aldermen never even knew the specifics of they were voting on, but just gave a blanket approval to the new budget on November 16th, 2011. (And, I'm sure there were other items buried in the budget that got changed without much understanding, as well.) Even the new budget couldn't accomplish the task of easing the fiscal pain we're feeling.

  • Art fests and street feats are two different things.

  • the original issue was waiver of street permit fees so these are street festivals that have art instead of music or food.
