4600 Block of Paulina

Dog-Friendly Apartment Needed for June 1st

Neighbours,

I'm a responsible, reliable, professional tenant looking to move into a dog-friendly studio or 1 bedroom on June 1st. I currently live in a 2 bedroom in Ravenswood and I love the area, but I would also consider moving to Edgewater, Buena Park, Uptown or Andersonville. My dog is an older, large, potty-trained and well behaved mutt (not a pit mix).

I prefer to be contacted directly by owners or building managers and not brokers. I would also consider a sublet situation if there was a possibility to renew the lease.

Please get in touch!

  • Julie Uptown/Andersonville

Try Bil-Mar Management - I think they have two buildings in the area and are dog-friendly.

  • why do you have to pay impound fees if you are a victim of a crime?

  • PhoebeK10 Rogers Parker since 1991

wow. Recovering stolen merchandise is pretty rare, from what I hear. Glad to hear you got your bike back. Sorry to hear it was stripped and dropped. Was it dusted for prints? Is CPD pursuing leads to arrest the thief/ thieves so maybe you could also recover the fees? Sux that your baby was stolen, but it's practically a miracle you got it back. Of course (being the victim of theft, I'm speaking from personal experience), you'll NEVER recover the time and aggravation.

Living and Playing in Chicago

Edgewater Play Groups?

Hi-am soon going to become a mom and although I have plenty of time to research this, I was just curious how does one go about joining or collaborating with other parents with small children and infants in the area? Are there playgroups or parent groups/organizations in the neighborhood? I would like to hear your suggestions for those parents raising children in the city, and especially here in Edgewater-thanks!

  • The neighborhood group WANT in West Andersonville hosts a indoor playlot Tuesday and Friday mornings from 9-11 a.m. at Summerdale Community Church, 1700 W. Farragut. Free and very informal -- just time and space for caregivers and kids to hang out.

    Hey DK,
Sorry I'm a little late in responding, but I started an Edgewater New Parents Group through meetup.com in January 2012 as a way for new parents who live in and around Edgewater to meet and bring their little ones together for play dates, walks, and more. The ages of the children in the group vary - with 2-week-olds all the way to 18-month-olds. We currently have a walking group that meets every week and some sort of play group each week as well (book discussion group, baby food swap or just hanging out). The best way to find out info for the Edgewater New Parents Group is to go to our page and join the group. And just so you know - although we may bring food or drinks to share, everything we do is free. Here's the page: http://www.meetup.com/Edgewater-New-Parents-Group/

Blastomycosis outbreak in Chicago?

Hi, Just read this article about a potential outbreak of blastomycosis, an invisible toxins dogs inhale and often die from. It mentions Hollywood Park, Legion Park, North side 60659 area.

http://www.dogheirs.com/events/409

Please check it out and if you walk your dogs there, don't until we learn more. And if it's true, these areas should be roped off! My friend's dog Audrey is currently battling blasto and it's a tough road ahead, not to mention crazy-expensive. Please check out info about Audrey progress. There's a lot of valuable info for dog owners to be learned at this site.

    HI Kimberly and all-
A few days ago I decided to contact Kathryn Janicek, a morning producer at NBC. I told her about blasto, that Andy Avalos was kind enough to take up the cause on his Facebook page, and asked her if she'd be willing to do a piece on this disease in order to alert dog owners that if your dog seems ill and your vet doesn't check for blasto—as we know that many don't know to—people are at least armed with the right info to do right by their dog. Of course I said these areas need testing, too. Kathryn wrote back and said a piece was done on it already. Anybody see it? My search came up empty.

I think a little park district pressure is in order. But it won't work if they don't feel are numbers are large enough.

I have searched high and low and have found NOTHING. The only near local article I found was from a veterinarian, Dr. Ned Bartlett who reported a dog, small terrier/chi type in Jan 2012. Vet stated the dog probley contracted it in the fall of 2011 “recently been diagnosed in the Winthrop Harbor/ Zion/ Waukegan area” That’s the closest I have come_and believe me, I have been posting and looking_so they are blowing smoke

Currently my dog is slow to move, tires easily, allergies erupting _and I am keeping VERY CLOSE eye on him. It can be mistaken for shedding, tired due to allergies, heat; I will be devastated if this turns out to be a fungal infection. Nearly 18k it has taken Karen already to treat Audrey for only a few months.
This is nothing to play around with.
There have been no report except the letter i sent to Alderman O'Connor in Ward 40. He posted it in excerpt and added that it was/is rare in humans. (not so)
NO ONE HAS FOLLOWED UP HERE
THERE ARE NO SIGNS POSTING WARNINGS OR INFO
THERE HAS BEEN NO TESTING BY ANY AGENCY DEPITE MY LETTER IN APRIL TO DEPT OF HEALTH AND PARK AND REC AND THE MAYOR

It's not a hard carpentry project to put up wall shelves, box around them, and cover with old windows on hinges. The shelves need not be deep, Even a shallow cabinet is handy.

I replaced a bunch of old windows and recycled many of them. But I would have rather have repaired them if possible. Even when I used high quality windows from Marvin, I know that given the extensive use of plastic and foam, there is no way the new windows are going to last a 100 years like the old windows.

Salvador's (773.523.7898) is fantastic! I had been looking for a good landscaper for a while. I have used Patch and German's before -both of those ok but not very responsive and Patch can be pricey. I found Salvador's on yelp - check out the reviews (which reminds me I need to add mine). His crews hit my neighborhood (Glenwood/Albion) on Tuesday's. Reliable, reasonable and great service!!

Hi Kathleen, I think Sharon told me she sent you an email about my services. I would be happy to take care of your cats. Please feel free contact me 773-654-1631.

  • I use Bob from Bobcat Sitting Services. I've used him for 4 years now and he is great. My 2 cats love him. He will come to your home as many times as you wish. It's his own business and he does this full time as far as I know. He will take his time on his visits, by playing with your cats and giving them treats. He charges I think about $19 for 2 cats, per visit. His number is 773-407-9011.

Hi all -

I have an adorable dog that is very kind, friendly, cuddly, and wants to have all the attention in the world. He is very healthy, trained, and is ready to enjoy life with you.

While I understand that it is atypical to post this kind of message on Every Block, a similar post about a dog was listed and received kind responses.

This pup was never supposed to be mine - an ex left him behind. While I've done my best to provide a loving and caring home for him, a 3 dog household is just too difficult. This particular pup doesn't like other dogs (even though he loves the other two in the house). It's been a long road to come to the decision that he needs more attention than I'm able to provide with 2 others in the house.

He is very friendly with people. I'm not sure if he is good with kids, but I have no reason to think otherwise. While he would eventually acclimate to a home with another dog, he would be happier if he was the only dog (he wants all of your attention).

He loves to go for walks, and he is very good on the leash. As mentioned, he does not like other dogs - this is the biggest exception to his leash-walking. I have tried to work with him on this using many different methods. The bottom line is that he need solo training (or anxiety meds). With the two others in the house, I'm unable to provide that for him.

I want to make it clear that I am giving him away out of love and compassion - and that this decision has been very difficult for me. I will not allow him to go to just any home. He will have to go to a home that can love him, provide for him, and understand his fear of other dogs.

He is a small breed dog, approximately 15lbs, terrier mix. I'm specifically NOT posting a pic b/c I want someone who can be responsible and who loves dogs rather than someone who is just looking for a cute small dog. You can meet him in person to decide if he's cute or not. :).

Please send me a private message and I will respond.

Woman Found Strangled In Edgewater Alley

Of course any loss of life is tragic but for those of us who live very close to the scene there is a worlds of difference between someone being found dead in your alley from an overdose versus someone being murdered in your alley. If the aldermans office is calling it an OD and that "no foul play" was involved it seems to me they have a responsibility to address the conflict in their conclusion in relation to the medical examiners released cause of death.

  • I agree @edgerz, but that's what he said the police told him. Is there anyway to find out any actual information? It seems like this happened before over on Berwyn a few months ago when they found a dead naked guy in a dumpster. They said there was "no foul play" for that one, too. We are trying to buy a place that shares the same alley that the woman was found in, and need some sort of straight answers.

cleaning person

hi there can anyone recommend a reliable cleaning person for a two bedroom/1 bath in edgewater? i'd rather it be the same individual every time rather than through a service. i have cats so pet friendly would be a plus. also, any idea on the cost would be super helpful. many thanks!

  • I highly recommend The Green Maid. They use non-toxic pet-friendly products, the prices are very reasonable, and they are licensed, bonded and insured. They send a team of three and except for a couple occasions when they got lost or were running late, I've been very happy for the year + that I've been using them.
