I wanted to find out if these 'residential pick-up truck parking' signs that I see popping up all over the neighborhood are legit. So far I have only seen them on beat up old pick up trucks and one of them seems to have made the front of my home their place of choice to park. Don't get me wrong, people are allowed to park where they want on the street but there are reasons pick-up truck are considered "B" rated trucks and should only be parked on commercial streets. First, Can Mel's office verify that these signs are being passed out legitimately, since his name is on the sign? Second, why is the city not enforcing "B" plates on pick-up trucks? I need assistance in getting rid of the beater truck that has made the front of my home parking spot of choice.

Just to clarify, those unsightly, er, I mean, second division vehicles with B-Truck plates in the state of Illinois can include more than just pickups. It also can mean SUV’s or vans too. That would include Tahoes ... But I suppose we can make an exception for Tahoes ... so long as they're sporting CPD stripes. But those Range Rovers and Land Rovers, especially the ones with rhino bars, are unsightly nuisances and must be banished. Make it so.

so, these school buses that are frequently parked on Kimball are not supposed to be parked there I suppose?

Rezoning Craziness on Wolcott

Sounds like everyone is jumping on the Lycee Francais gravy train. Just saw a new item on the 47th Ward site where someone submitted an application and letters to rezone 4400 AND 4500 North Wolcott from RS3 to RT3.5. TWO WHOLE BLOCKS. And you can imagine my surprise to find out that the five families who signed the letter don't even LIVE on my block. FRIGHTENING!

There's no project or drawings or anything attached to the request. Just a blanket LET'S REZONE THE TWO BLOCKS PLEASE.

Can you even do this? Ask to rezone a block full of people where you don't even live? And don't they have to tell you what they intend to do with the property? PRETTY SCARY. Dying to see how this one is handled.

Ghosts don't lie. Check it out.

@Frite 47, Why would I be concrened about your block? Because your block is part of our neighborhood, your problems, like crime become our problem, your drainage is our drainage, your schools are our schools etc... While some may wish to be an island in the desert, that's not urban life. This request does nothing to your building, other then justify its height, maybe its width.

It has been my understanding that when an area has been down-zoned, the existing buildings are not required to knock off the top floor in order to conform; it only applies to new construction.

@jeff f, as recently as February, you were voicing your concern about parking congestion surrounding the Old Town School. You even took a shot at those that "make the case for an 'urban area'". Now, you are pushing for higher density and take issue with a building that provides maximum off-street parking for its residents, in an already densely populated area. If you were truly concerned about the amount of green space, up-zoning is not proper avenue.

This is a blatant attempt by members of the Alderman's inner-circle to enrich themselves at the expense of the neighborhood. (Note that a petitioner and commentator also serves on the 47th ward zoning advisory committee.)

Once this zoning change is approved a precedent is set; a developer on the 4500 block of Winchester would have grounds to appeal the current zoning and request a zoning change. The 4400 block would be next. Soon it will spread throughout the ward and you will think you are in Lincoln Park with the 4 story cinder block condominiums creating urban walls on both sides of the street. If you choose not to sell your home and live in between two towers, built nearly lot line to lot line, you will see your property taxes skyrocket.

This is a stray cat that has been coming around my home. He is badly injured around his ear and really needs someone who can adopt him. He is a very cute Tuxedo cat (see pic - although he looks very startled in the picture!), with all white paws. He is very sweet and aprroachable and needs a loving home. I would guess he is 1-2 years old and he is not fixed. I've been feeding him so he's not starving to death anymore, but he needs his forever home. <3

If you, or if you know someone who would love a lovable little guy to call their own, let me know.

Nothing happened, i just haven't seen him the last couple days so i couldn't try to catch him. Anyone who sees him is welcome to try and coax him over. He is super sweet and will let you pet him; I've been calling him Boots, because of his little white paws. I'm sure Suzanne doesn"t care who catches him. : ) I will keep looking too.

Chicago Police Misconduct: 'Repeater' Officers Account For Millions In City Payouts

Exposé: 140 cops, 1% of the force account for more than 25% of the city's paid out settlements to victims of police abuse. And they stay in their jobs, repeating their misconduct.

Fortunately, the IL Supreme Court just ended the prohibition against photographing cops. (The police sure didnt want that to happen.) The army of public camera phones should discourage some of the bad behavior, and will also help document those who cant help themselves.

Why do fans put up with Wrigley?

That's what most of us are doing as we make our annual summer pilgrimage to the corner of Clark and Addison, shelling out hundreds of our hard-earned ducats to watch mediocre baseball in a crumbling relic.

That being said, being a Boston native, I enjoy the traditional ballparks. The only two left are Fenway and Wrigley. Wrigley could use a facelift like Fenway has done. When there was first talk of "renovating" Fenway there was a allot of trepidation by Boston fans... But, now looking back at Fenway, it was a dump and what they did to upgraded it, in just about every area, was NEEDED and well worth it.
Wrigley needs the same people to go to town on the place like they did at Fenway.

  • I would be happy to see Wrigley turned into a public park.

It comes down to one basic fact: There are enough Cubs fans that would rather see a mediocre (or bad team) play at an old and familiar Wrigley, then to see a great team play at a new or different venue. Sure there are fans who may disagree, but there are still enough to fill the seats.

I agree that Wrigley needs a face-lift, and its clear that Boston managed to do it well. I am not sure that it will take an entire baseball season to renovate Wrigley (as implied in the article), the off season should be enough.
