Neighborhood Rallies Around The Music Store's Owner In His Time Of Need

Business at the Music Store, 3121 W. Irving Park Road, has not been great lately, sales clobbered by the Internet, same as at a lot of brick-and-mortar shops.

Neighborhood Rallies Around The Music Store's Owner In His Time Of Need
IRVING PARK - Chicago musicians of a certain age likely either know John Shaw or they know someone who knows someone who's heard of John Shaw. Maybe he's sold, rented or traded them a guitar or a drum or a keyboard, or maybe he's talked them into or out of a particular amp or microphone.

Screaming guy by Irving and Pulaski

I know this will seem a bit... nuts.

Frequently, I hear some guy screaming nonsense in the middle of the day right near this intersection. I've SEEN him doing it a couple times too. Screaming at nobody. Perhaps has a medical condition. Either way, has anyone else seen him? I really wonder if he screams inside his apartment building which is near me as well.

  • Ashley* Irving Park Resident

This man lives by a barbershop next to me. Not by the YMCA. Could be a dofferent man. Just now this same man was standing on a bus stop bench screaming again. Off Springfield and Irving. Right by independence park.

We could be discussing a gentleman I take the train with in the morning pretty regularly. Tourettes is a mental illness his behaviours suggest to someone like me (no training just a dilettante interested in mental illness) that that is what he has . The behaviours, the "tics" are startling to someone like me who doesn't deal with shouting well, but it's 100% obvious it's involuntary. You can even tell when he's trying to control it a bit more and when he's not. (he is way louder and more consistent under the overpass than when standing on the platform) He is 100% aware of the issue of course and I've noticed some compensating behaviors, for example he'll let a super crowded train pass by and catch the next. I believe he is employed somewhere as I see him at the same time just about every morning....which is awesome and gives me something to think about...where would one employ someone who is otherwise completely normal but could be distracting in certain locations (say, a library). I have seen people be crazy rude to him. I saw a young man mime kicking him off the platform after he passed (I was behind him) and I gave him (the young man) as withering a look as I can...I might have called him a dick...I'm not sure. I also heard a man yell at him after he had a tic on the train and I caught that guys eye and said "he can't stop that, what's your excuse?" Of course it's possible the second man had some kind of mental illness as well but I am as capable as anyone else of making that mistake.

Irving and Western blocked off

Just drove past Irving and Western.. the entire south side of Western has crime scene wrapped around it.. as well as the CVS.
Traffic is blocked from Rockwell east .
3 helicopters hovering around .

Anyone know what's going on ??

  • @Tim MC: I was responding to the comment by @smartypants: "Again police officers bring guns to a knife fight and kill someone. This offender may well have been a mentaly ill person. Does every crime in Chicago warrant a death penalty meted out by the CPD?"

  • Kodi,
"Paper cut"? Stop being ridiculous AND stop being rude to me. I assume nothing.
