Does anyone have a great Primary Care Physician who is a DO? Also looking for an affordable OBGYN (not for pregnancy purposes, and can be a Nurse Practitioner). Thanks!

Glass Block Window Replacement?

Just asking for some knowledge: how much would replacing one glass block window cost? And who would I hire to do it? A mason? Any recommendations?

  • If, like me, you don't want to do this yourself, you could hire a handyman type of person to do it.

  • Liz H. Small business owner

I used Magic Glass Block company (5045 W. Diversey) to install seven entire glass block windows a few years ago and they did an outstanding job for what I thought was a really reasonable price. The owner sounds a bit gruff but he's actually a really nice guy.

Our foster dog escaped our yard today around 5:05 pm near Bernard & Berteau. He's a white irish setter. Currently around 40 lbs and very underweight. Super friendly. Goofy lil guy, about 12 months. He has a red collar and a white tick collar.

If you see him, grab him for us please!!! 773.706.7442

Parking space available $75/m

I have a parking space available for rent on Irving and St. Louis. It is in a private, well lit, condo lot. The lot gets plowed in the winter and it is super easy in and easy out. if you are interested please message me. The cost is $75 per month... but if you sign up for several months we may be able to negotiate.

Speed Cameras by Lane Tech

I was traveling on Western Ave yesterday and noticed the speed cameras in front of Lane Tech High School (Western and Addison) flashing like crazy! The speed limit is 20 mph while school is in session (Monday - Friday til 4pm). 5 over the limit is a $35 ticket, over 10 can be up to $100. Just a friendly reminder!

  • Michele, if you live the city then I'd talk to the Alderman's office and ask them exactly how the state law about children being present when the violation occured is interpreted ? If I were you, I'd write my experience to the newspapers.

@Michele, sorry to hear you lost your case but as I've said above that should be expected. These rent a judges really don't seem to understand the law. In my opinion, since the city is claiming that you violated the law, it is their burden to prove that you were in fact driving the vehicle at the time (which you don't have to admit to because of the 5th amendment) and it is also their burden to prove that the person on the bike is a minor. Since it appears that you already admitted to being the driver at the time, the city still has to prove that the person on the bike is a minor. I would have to believe that this is impossible without an actual witness.

You now have two choices, pay the city their fine or appeal the decision to Cook County. I don't blame you for just paying the fine because as I stated above, it will cost you $310 to file the appeal while the ticket is $100. Of course if you win, not only will you get your $310 back (paid to you by the city) you won't have to pay the fine either.

I am going to appeal all of my tickets that are not dismissed by the city from now on because I don't like bullies. My pretrial for one is in August. I also have a hearing with the city on two other tickets next week, one is a speeding camera ticket and the other a red light camera ticket. I have proof for both that I couldn't have been the driver because I have my CTA Ventra transaction record showing I was on the train at the time in question. If the idiot rent a judge next week doesn't dismiss these two, I will be filing two more appeals which they will lose.
