Gang Graffiti

Disgusting display of gang graffiti on large red brick wall (3800 West Berteau). If you drive north on Springfield lined with beautiful homes and turn left at Berteau, you will see 7 feet high letters of Gaylords threatening graffiti. Many of us had out-of-town guests for Thanksgiving and were violated and embarrassed by this display of gang activity. Hoping that Graffiti Busters comes soon!

Tonys garbage..not as lovely as the plastic bag in American Beauty..

Hey neighbors, as someone who lives incredibly close to Tonys, it would be great to see a communal effort to pick up garbage on the sidewalks and alleys around the store. We all benefit from their fantastic deli, why not show some compassion for the surrounding neighbors who have to see garbage flying around everyday?

I've been thinking myself lately, that I wish all of our neighborhoods, and neighborhoods within neighborhoods - had block clubs and the like... that did things like weekly litter pick ups on your assigned block and the like. It is so easy to say - It's someone else's problem, or someone else should be doing it - or call 311 and complain. But, it would be more community minded to actually start helping your neighborhood with those things. Volunteer your time to do it. My Great Grandfather and Uncle owned a business on Irving Park Road for almost 90 years. They took it on themselves, even as old men - to sweep up the sidewalk, and pick up garbage so that their block would look good. People need to take that kind of pride in their neighborhoods and doing those things for themselves again. Just my opinion though. For myself - I haven't done it yet... but want to make a stick with a nail in it, get some gardening gloves, and a way to attach a trash bag - and go up and down my area of Addison Street and de-garbage it. There has been some trash in the curb areas for months now. The only way we will have less litter, is to just take care of it.

Your Chicago comedy calendar November 23-29
Thanksgiving is no exception to the Chicago rule of great comedy every single night of the year. Snow, sleet, ice, insufferable temps, holidays and faux holidays. None stand in the way. Comedy, as always, is a refuge and a celebration in its own right. Escape the Thanksgiving table when the conversation turns twitchy.
