Beware of Neighborhood Thief

This woman is stealing from backyards in the area. Be on the lookout!

  • I live on Francisco and twice now when I have had the garage door open for a little bit I have had scrappers try to steal from my garage.

  • Yes, I will upgrade to a better camera/system in the spring. You basicly get $1 per line resolution. This is 600 line res and the system costs about $600 (not installed). There is no good comparison info on the net to inform on the quality. My next one will be 900 line.

Shred-a-thon?

Did anybody ever find the shredder at the Independence Park market this morning? Went over there 3 times, first from 9-10am, then back at 11, and again at noon. No shredder truck to be found. Anybody know of another shredder event coming up?

  • Io Octopus

It was bound to happen. Someone shredded the shredder.

  • Someone did post to the Facebook GIPNA group about the postponement - so a neighbor did have the smarts to use their smartphone (about 10:30).

It might be harder to update the Alderman's website from a smartphone, though posting here shouldn't have been a big deal.

Shred-athon

Sun, Aug 24, 2014 9am - 1pm

The Independence Park Farmers Market will host a “SHRED-ATHON” sponsored by Alderman John Arena.

Sunday, August 24th
9 am to 1 pm
Independence Park
3945 N. Springfield Ave.

Prevent identity theft by bringing your old paperwork with any sensitive information to this shred event and get them destroyed while you watch. Bring old bank statements, check receipts, pay stubs, legal documents, credit card reports or any records a “dumpster diver” could use to steal your identity.

  • So sad. Thought he was actually going to get something done

  • Someone posted Sunday morning on the GIPNA Facebook group about the postponement. (It wasn't the Alderman) But Facebook doesn't help folks here.

Not the driver for speed camera ticket

Has anyone run into the issue where a speed camera ticket was sent to you for your car, but you weren't the driver? Is that therefore contestable, given the photo doesn't prove who was driving? I have 2 cars registered to me - one which I drive and one that my fiancee drives. He got the ticket, but it was sent to me as I'm the registered owner. While we're about to be married and have what's his be mine and vice versa :) , I don't feel that we should just blindly pay the ticket when there's no proof of the driver. Anyone else run into this before? How did you handle it?

Parking/speeding tickets are the responsibility of whomever the car is registered/licensed to, and NOT who is driving or who owns the car.
An example of a possible exception would be If a car thief steals your car, and you report it before the thief gets a parking/speeding ticket, you would not have to pay if your police report shows that you reported the crime before the ticket was issued.
The city or state mails the ticket to the most current address that it has on file, which is usually the registered driver, who may not be the car owner or actual driver.

The owner of the vehicle is mailed the ticket, even if the owner was not driving the vehicle and may not know who was driving at the time. The owner of the vehicle is then forced to prove his or her innocence, often by identifying the actual driver who may be a family member, friend or employee.
