    Ind. Library Architect Announced
On Sunday, March 19, John Ronan Architects was unveiled as the winner of a city design competition for the new Independence Park Library at 4022 N. Elston. The design includes a library on the ground level with affordable housing above as part of a unique agreement between the Chicago Housing Authority and the Chicago Public Library for a mixed-use development at the site.

why cant the library just be a library and senior housing just be senior housing.

they claim that this library is very busy with all the kids and near by schools. so give us a real library you dont see any of these other libraries with housing or apartments on top.

next thing you know they will be putting apartments on top of the grocery stores

  • "They" do put apartments above grocery stores. It's actually ideal in high density areas - who wouldn't want to live within an elevator ride to grocery shopping? And I'm not just speaking to the loop - the Whole Foods in sauganash is on the ground floor of an apartment complex.

Chicago Drivers Are Getting A Bit More Leeway On Running Red Lights
Today looks like it was a win for both advocates of safe streets and opponents of nickel-and-dimed revenue generation. The city announced that it would raise the grace period for cars passing through a red light-to the joy of Chicago drivers-while keeping that grace period at a safe and reasonable length-to the joy of Chicago pedestrians who enjoy remaining in one piece while crossing an intersection.
    http://chicagoist.com

  • Bob Kastigar 15 Years North Park, bike rider, retired

"...except when reduced speed is necessary for safe operation of his vehicle or in compliance with law."

So doesn't a driver get to determine what's safe?

Also, read Part (b) about a regulatory authority determining what's slow, and posting a sign to limit the slow speed. Like seen on expressways. I've never seen such a sign in Chicago and I've never heard of anyone getting a ticket for driving too slow.

  • During a Secretary of State road test, if you drive too slow you will get points off. Do it three times on a road test and you will fail. Too slow during a road test is defined as more than 5 mph below posted speed. (No expressways are involved in road tests.)

Looking for Architect/Contractor

We are looking for an architect and contractor for a full first floor remodel (preferably separate individuals/companies) on our 125 year old home in Old Irving. From an architectural perspective, we would like to reconfigure or move our existing basement stairway to improve the layout of the first floor. Once we agree with architect on plans (and city approves) we'd look for the contractor to execute. Any suggestions based on experience with a particular architect or contractor would be appreciated!

  • DonZ Since 1992

I have a great architect for you to check out. Leonard Riccardi owner of ALR Architecture. They have done work in the city including Logan Square, Mayfair, Portage Park and Evanston. They are familiar with the permitting process and have relationships with contractors who work in the city. Call Leonard at 847-754-5030.

Study: Red light cameras make Chicago streets safer; some may be relocated
Chicago's red light cameras help make driving safer in Chicago, according to a study released Monday by the Northwestern University Transportation Center. The report found "significant safety benefits" and recommended the continuation of the program. The study recommended that the city extend the time allowed before issuing a ticket once the light turns red.

Don't speed, don't run red lights and you won't get a ticket and it won't cost you anything. The only people who complain are those that get tickets, and only those who break the law get tickets.

    Slow down, save lives.
