CPS School raffling off Tequila

My child's school is raffling off tequila for a fundraiser. The signs literally said "Tequila kit". I brought this to the attention of the principal who said it would be corrected. Now the fundraiser signs say "Adult drinkable kit". Seriously.

How can I get this some more attention and get the school to put a stop to this?

My child's school is raffling off tequila for a fundraiser. The signs literally said "Tequila kit". I brought this to the attention of the principal who said it would be corrected. Now the fundraiser signs say "Adult drinkable kit". Seriously.

How can I get this some more attention and get the school to put a stop to this?

This is not to say that I do not enjoy an adult beverage from time to time... but a government funded low income public school is not the place to advertise or distribute alcohol.

This is also the school that sent home a letter about peanut allergies and then had PB&J bars on the lunch menu the next day. The same school sells pop and chips after school. Again - a lot of other soapboxes to stand on... but just a glimpse at what we're dealing with.

  • My ire, CJL. Heh. 😜 I am hardly an angry person.
Megan mentioned how a note went home regarding peanut butter allergies & the next day peanut butter was served. I'm merely pointing out that it was most likely Sunbutter, not peanut butter, that was served. If you know a child who can eat peanut butter, but is deathly allergic to Sunbutter, chances are that specific child has an allergy to sunflower seeds. But, I don't know the child and I'm not a doctor.

Climb off your high horse, Megan. Unless they're passing out Cuervo shots to the kiddies, there's nothing wrong with the school raffling off alcoholic beverages to adults that happen to enjoy them.

Addison Mall/New restaurant?

Does anybody have information as to what will be taking over the former Big and Tall space at Addison Mall? We are excited to see what is coming.

  • It is going to be a Panda Express. They are now hiring. I drove down Addison today. The construction is coming along nicely. I have been in the Albany Park /Avondale area my entire life. I am glad to see more business and revenue coming in. Who cares about what the borders are to the neighborhoods. Each one has almost the same problems if not more. It doesn't mean anyone is better then the other because of the area they are from. Just Saying.

The more restaurants the less I have to cook.

7 mo old puppy available for adoption!

We have been fostering a wonderful puppy named Chaps from Illinois Birddog Rescue. He is a very handsome, 7 month old Pointer mix. He is 32 lbs and has some growing to do too (he may max out at 40/45 lbs) but he's mixed with a smaller breed...maybe a beagle? He's like a mini-pointer!

Chaps is dog and cat friendly. Potty trained. Obedient. Not an aggressive bone in his body, but he is quite the watch dog. And lots of puppy. He's a great dog that would do great with another pup (he has grown up with dogs) or would learn to appreciate the individual attention in a single dog household.

Although we haven't tested him around kids (we only have a furry fam!), his sister is good with kids and we have every reason to believe he is too.

If you or family/friends been thinking about getting a dog, you should meet him! We'd love to find him a home in the neighborhood and watch this little man grow up. Please help spread the word!

Not sure if this was innocent or not, but it seemed a bit off. Around 11 am on Sunday, a man came to our door and rang the doorbell. I didn't recognize him so I didn't answer the door. My husband happened to be in the backyard with the dogs when he tried to open the side gate. The dogs started barking, the man said he lost his flip phone and gps said it was here. We did not open the gate and the man went on his way. I'm sure the barking dogs helped.

We are near Kimball and Montrose. He was a white male, blondish hair, buzz cut, late 20's. He may/may not be doing this around the neighborhood. Just a heads up!

  • AmandaB homeowner, dog lover & real estate agent!

Yes, it is possible it was innocent. I tried to make that clear. The whole thing just seemed odd.

Wanted to let others know in case there was no flip phone afterall (do flip phones even have GPS???) and he was making his way around the neighborhood is all!

  • Even if a flip-phone had GPS, it's highly unlikely it has a backdoor to allow a user to log in remotely and query the phone's location. Next time take his info down, if he's willing to share it, and then keep an eye out.
