  • In the entire decade of dealing with this -we have never been offered a complaint to sign. I asked the CAPS officer about it who was assigned to this and he didn't know about it either. I think there is some misinformation about the complaint idea. I would have signed it ten years ago if that was a choice given to us. It has not and still has not been a choice offered and I have now even asked if I could register an official complaint.

Honey locust Plant bug?? Help!

Just as I got rid of the Aphids on my Plum Tree now we have Honey Locust Plant Bug on our Honey Locust. Reading up they are not as destructive to other vegatation as aphids but does anyone know how to get rid of them without using pesticides? Argh.
I used natural predators (lady bugs), good fall clean up and crushed chrysanthemums to get rid of the aphids but I can't see anything natural about getting rid of Honey Locust Plant bug.

  • Maria de la Rosa-Young, North Park Gardener and coffee lover

According to the University of Minnesota Extension "Ash and honeylocust plant bugs can damage individual leaves but generally do not threaten the health of mature trees. Therefore, the best course of action is to tolerate damage from these insects" As far as getting rid of aphids, insecticidal/horticultural soap spray, homemade or store bought, is the most effective and gentlest to the environment.

You could use Neem oil. It's generally sold concentrated at hydroponics stores such as the one at Pulaski and Irving. Neem oil is naturally occurring and is used in organic gardening to control pests. Get a small general use sprayer, very small. Mine is a 40oz sprayer and has no hose. It's an all in one sprayer that you fill with distilled water and the oil. Ask about specific concentration for your pest but 2-4ml for the 40oz bottle should be sufficient. If that doesn't work then you can increase the dosage to say 6ml but I don't suggest you go much higher. Also when using this type of pest control its not like poison. It takes several days to work. Best of luck.

Chicago youth coach convicted of molestation
Nearly 18 months after the ABC7 I-Team uncovered a sordid story of sexual abuse and shattered trust, the target of our report has been convicted by a Cook County jury. Rodney Woolford, 61, who claimed to have been an Olympic athlete and was a popular youth sports coach on Chicago's Northwest Side, was found guilty of molesting neighborhood teenaged girls.

  • He will finally pay for all the damage he was able to do for the last 20 years because he got a slap on the wrist for the 1995 conviction. Karma sometimes takes a long time but it does catch up eventually.

Piano moving suggestions?

Hey all!

A friend needs to get rid of a piano and I've agreed to take it. I've heard tales of the agony of moving these monstrosities. Does anyone have any experience on what I could do, expect? Should I attempt to move with friends? Thoughts on trying to get in a standard minivan, or need a truck?

I got one quote so far, and that includes all labor and truck: $300. Is that reasonable?

Thanks!

STRONGLY ADVISE AGAINST GOING HERE: I've taken my dog before when she was 1 to get the full works. Paid full price but the groomer refused to clean her teeth telling me next time....yet he didn't discount me anything for not doing it. Well this past Saturday April 28th I wanted to treat my American Pit Bull Terrier for a Groom. I called to recheck the prices. Man speaking spanish answered the phone. I understand and speak fluently so continued to ask my questions. How much for grooming? He responds by saying depends on the breed and size. I don't care how much it cost just thought it was a good place to go because its close to my home. I tell him I have a pit. He tells me if my dog has been there before and how long ago. I responded that I took her to that location about a year ago. His response was so unprofessional. He tells me why do you people take so long to bring the dog don't you know they get crazy. Wow! First of all my dog is very humble I bathe her or my daughter who is a skinny 11 year old. She is calm when being taken a bath. How dare they judge me or my dog without even looking at her. How dare them call themself Dog groomers if they are so prejudice? Yes I said no thank you and hung up! I strongly encourage those to go to other places Petsmart takes better care of dogs than these people!

So, this is just a venting post because I am so angry. Two nights ago my outdoor/indoor cat didn't come home. Last night I get a call that someone found my cat because he is chipped so they were able to trace the owner. This lady lives a block away from me so my cat was not that far away from home. I called the lady who had him and I found out that she traps stray cats and takes them to PAWS to get them vaccinated,neutered/ spayed and their ears clipped. My poor little kitty fell into one of her traps. She tells me that she had seen my cat before and that she thought he was friendly but yet she proceeded to take him in to PAWs to get an unnecessary procedure done. My question is how does that happen that my cat being chipped and fixed is still put under sedation and has part of his ear cut off? All this happen within 12 hours. Why couldn't they at least wait 24 hours until till they got ahold of me before they mutilated him? I called PAWs explained what happened and said that a manager could explain to me how the process goes when they have a cat who someone assumes is feral and the manager hasn't called me back. The lady didn't even seem sorry that all this happened to my poor little kitty. Now I have A 10, a 5 year old and a 3 year old who are crying because their little cat is missing part of an ear. I am so mad at this lady for not having the decency to at least wait until the chip had been checked. It looks like she takes great joy in capturing these little cats and having them mutilated. I understand there are many feral cats and we would like them all to be vaccinated and stuff but my cat has a chip that was able to be traced to me so I don't know how they figured he did not have an owner? He will forever be thought of as a feral cat and I'm afraid what might happen if he decides he wants to try going out again. Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening again to someone else since that this lady feel she's the cat trapping expert?

  • Yes, collar and tags. For the safety of the cat. What is the incidence of death by collar?

  • J. H. far-north sider living in Uptown.

Indoor/outdoor cats belong at a farm not in a city. Way too many people move here from such and such (especially anywhere south) and immediately let their cats out and expect nothing to happen. WTF. That's not how it works in a northern city.
