Anybody lose a parakeet??

I was driving down Irving Park road today and saw this little green/yellow parakeet in the middle of the road at Irving/Kimball. I stopped traffic and saved him. He's super friendly and just hops around on you. I'll keep him/her but want to make sure they aren't someone's pet first. Message me. Thanks!

Patio chairs taken

Just a heads up that we had 4 nice patio chairs with blue fabric and black metal legs and arms, taken from our backyard some time on Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. We don't have a fence, but the chairs were not visible from the alley. We are near Irving Park and Kedzie.

  • That's absolutely terrible! Just holding my breath, hoping nothing gets stolen from my yard, especially anything metal. Unfortunately, sometimes metal scavengers will steal, just pile something up on their truck. Sorry that happened to you, thanks for the heads up.

  • That is just awful.  I'm so sorry it happened to you, it's such a lousy feeling.  My husband is a maniac about chaining things up in our yard.  We have our patio table and gas grill chained.  I had thought he was being ridiculous, but after hearing something like this,...

That is just awful.  I'm so sorry it happened to you, it's such a lousy feeling.  My husband is a maniac about chaining things up in our yard.  We have our patio table and gas grill chained.  I had thought he was being ridiculous, but after hearing something like this, I'm glad he is so careful.

A few years back we had an old weber kettle stolen, and our neighbors up and down the street also reported grills stolen.  Perhaps some lowlife was throwing a big barbecue. Probably just going for metal recycling, though. I have also had a gorgeous hanging pot of begonias stolen off my front porch. I wire tie them good and tight to the hooks now. Sigh.

Stinky basement?

Anyone out there experiencing stuff coming up from the hole in their basement? I normally have to take our standpipe out and pour water into the hole in the basement in the springtime or sewer gas escapes into the house. Lately, however, there has been a smell that is more like actual raw sewage -- like poop! -- and when I lifted the standpipe, all this black composty stuff and water came up from the hole. What is going on here? Anyone having this issue? What are we supposed to do? Yuck.

  • CICS Irving Park reviewed by a parent

Our daughter is finishing Kindergarten at CICS Irving Park. We have been nothing short of amazed with her development, both educationally and socially, throughout the past 8 months. She absolutely loves to go to school every morning and trusts and enjoys her teacher immensely. The teachers are engaged and dedicated to the success of their students. Every one I have met from the Director to the support staff are working toward the same goal - teaching these kids to succeed in the higher levels of education. There is a great energy here and tremendous school spirit. We feel fortunate to be a part of it.

Soil health in Irving Park

I'm looking to start a vegetable garden in my backyard and am wondering about the health of my soil. The house was built in early 1900's, and I don't know the lead paint history. Has anyone in Irving Park had their soil tested?
