New Hyde Park Hotel to Cater to U of C Visitors
The latest hotel plan for the Hyde Park neighborhood is moving forward. The Chicago Plan Commission as approved plans from suburban Cleveland developer Smart/Olympia Illinois to turn a surface parking lot at East 53rd Street and South Dorchester Avenue into a seven-story hotel with up to 100 rooms. Businesses and residents weren't forced out of Hyde Park due to higher taxes or from higher property values. It was more a hostile takeover. We're talking two different issues. The City and U of C. Have you read the article in the Hyde Park Herald, May 18th? Competitive against who? You have restaurants in Hyde Park that just open and closing because of the over homogenized area. Does eradicate also mean getting rid of small business owners who have been in Hyde Park for 20 years? Even now the voices of the Hyde Park committee go unheard. That's a problem with our society, we tend to exclude and not include. Hyde Park was a community that once promoted a chamber of commerce. Who is profiting from the destabilization and regentrification of Hyde Park and other neighborhoods on the south lakefront region of Chicago?

  • On another note, when I make a reference to Hyde Park I'm speaking for the true boundaries of Hyde Park. Between 51st Street to the North and 57th Street to the South. Drexel Street to the west to the Lake.

The story behind the “pup paradise” in Jackson Park

Hot off the digital press! Check out this wonderful woofworthy article South-Side-Weekly's Emeline Posner wrote on Jackson Bark.

http://southsideweekly.com/a-dog-meet-dog-world/

    A Dog Meet Dog World
Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither was Jackson Bark-this is often what Todd Agosto, the architect of the Jackson Park dog park, will say, only half-jokingly, when asked about his pet project. To compare the construction of a dog park to the construction of one of the greatest cities in history may strike some as odd-irreverent, even.
