If your looking to save some money, Menards has great trees for a really good prices. We bought 2 trees last night, one 8-9 foot for us and one 6-7 foot for our elderly aunt who lives upstairs from us. Both Frasier Furs although they had about 3 different other kinds. In total we spent $75 on 2 beautiful trees. No, unfortunately the $ doesn't support a school or a noble purpose, it just keeps more $ in your pocket book that creates opportunity for you to then support a worthy cause :)

  • For cut your own tree...We used to go to Richardsons Xmas Tree Farm in Spring Grove...They also have a barn with misc. ornaments, fresh donuts, coffee and cider...Great if you have kids !

The Everyblock buttons are not working again, so I'll have to give kudos to my old friend Bill Kopec for citing Terry V. Ohio, first. . He and everyone else who cited it are correct. As far as Tamara St. Clair, she's one hundred percent correct. There is absolutely no reason to get personal, nasty, uncivilized, or sarcastic, with someone just because they disagree with you. Her posts are well written, well thought out, and respectful. We all are misinformed sometimes.

As far as stop and frisk is concerned, NYC is not as segregated as Chicago, and the stop and frisk naysayers can easily make a case for it being racially biased, even if isn't. In Chicago where most communities are of one race or another is a different matter. If the police stop and frisk a black male for example in a black, high crime, community, is it racial profiling? Some outside that community may say yes. Others in that community that are affected by black on black crime might say no. As usual the CPD are in the middle.

  • George, when it comes to the forensics of a street stop, be it Chicago or NYC, I gladly yield to you.

14 Ways To De-stress In Chicago During The Trumpocalypse
It's been a brutal year for Chicago and Trump's ascension to power means that it's not going to get any easier for us or the rest of the country any time soon. But as anyone who has ever worked in politics can tell you, the fight is a marathon, not a sprint.

Do you know what I'm scared of? All this agitation based on race that incites of violence and creates a society that does not emphasize our similarities but demonizes those who don't agree with us and makes us believe the other is trying to hurt us. That is hateful. Really, really hateful.

I hope you saw the video of the white man being attacked by a group of black young people, punched, kicked, and beaten by two guys while those taking the video egged them on, screaming out anti-Trump taunts. This happened at a major intersection and no one helped him. No one. Who taught them to say such things?

    http://wgntv.com/2016/11/10/man-reportedly-beaten-over-trump-vote-chicago-police-seek-attackers-in-video/

Watch the video. One of the attackers stole the guy's car. The victim hung on and the thief sped up, swerving, trying to shake him off. He finally let go when the driver slowed down a little. He was not seriously hurt, but I bet he was traumatized.

When did anyone you know of get beat up and attacked for voting for Obama?

Did you hear about the guy who was stabbed and died after a minor argument at Millenium Park?
Have you seen the stories about people being robbed by gangs of black kids on Michigan Avenue or in Wrigleyville?

We should all take a page from the book of Andrew Holmes. He is a peacemaker. He sees right from wrong. He doesn't consider race. Stop the hate-mongering. Stop the divisiveness. That comes from the liberal side of the aisle.

  • @Beep -- Your first paragraph was spot on.. then everything else you said after completely contradicted it..

@Beep -- Your first paragraph was spot on.. then everything else you said after completely contradicted it..

The anxiety and fear goes both ways. As a Trump supporter, u are scared/nervous/anxious about certain things and that is why u voted as u did. I understand that. I acknowledge that and believe that u have legitimate concerns.

But how can u really say that the hate-mongering and divisiveness comes from the liberals. C'mon man! That statement alone is an indication that u aren't prepared or willing to have a real conversation about this because you're still looking at it from an "us vs. them" perspective instead of a "we" perspective. Newflash: The hate and fear-mongering comes from EVERYWHERE.. right, left and everywhere in-between.

Thing is, something big in our country happened on Tuesday and Trump currently represents the most blatant example of racism/hatred/bigotry for many people right now due to things he said during his campaign. If u dont feel that way, cool. Why is it so hard for some people to just simply acknowledge the legitimacy of others feelings even if they don't share those same feelings? Why try must we always try to invalidate those feelings?

Stop making this about Dems vs. Repubs and Obama/Clinton vs. Trump. Let's put some humanity in this and make it about trying to understand where our neighbors are coming from and how they're feeling. If someone is feeling down, scared or anxious due to Trump getting elected, is there really anything wrong with a little article telling them ways to de-stress?

I know some people who don't call in gunshots because they figure it's gangs or that it's far and they can't pinpoint a location well enough-- just call it in. It takes ten seconds and it can potentially change a life or death situation for someone.

The biggest problem now is they're all laying down because of the Soros funded BLM haters. The decent black folks are who are paying the price in their 'hoods.

    RAKARWOWSKI nailed it.
@Westsider; You're right about the attitudes of some people who don't like the police because they are accustomed to giving orders and not taking orders. Somehow they believe that it's beneath them to submit to the law, instead of complying with the law. It drives cops crazy, when someone makes their difficult job a little more difficult.

Bryan Hearn told Chicagoist he waited an hour and 15 minutes to vote at the 44th Ward's District 5 polling place at Wellington and Pine Grove this morning. "Voting is important to me so I decided it was worth the wait," he said.

Some Chicago Area Voters Grapple With Huge Lines & Ballot Problems
Photo: Padraig McCoid By Stephen Gossett and Rachel Cromidas It was a tale of two very different voting experiences on Election Day in Chicago on Tuesday. Some lines were virtually nonexistent on Tuesday morning and the process glided along smoothly for voters; others encountered hour-plus waits and ballot issues, including incomplete ballots and confounded poll workers.

I went to vote at the Humboldt Park library, but found the line was too long. I never would have been able to stand that long, nor did I allot the time for that errand.

  • Kelis Turner Coffee Please!

I voted early to avoid the lines.

But for the city as a whole, I know a few things. Now that the 108-year drought is over, along with the stories about how Grandpa would have realized a lifelong dream if only he had lived long enough, and hearing how Ernie, Ronnie and Harry were watching somewhere and celebrating, I still am absolutely certain that the Cubs winning the World Series will have no effect on much about our life in the city.
