"Wipe all the activity out of the park" is a wet dream not an action plan. And an action that would leave us with a much less interesting environment. No- I don't live on the park. If you chose that years ago WW, you must have known what you were getting yourself into- and I hope you never believed it was going to become Lincoln Park.

Transit-oriented development is a sensible way to build housing. Creating dense housing within a short walk of transit stations, without a lot of off-street parking makes it easier for more people to live without having to own a car. It leads to fewer newcomers bringing autos into neighborhoods, which reduces congestion and pollution.

The joke is not lost on me, Pete. It's funny that I'm even having this conversation. :-) Particularly since I live in "Humboldt Proper" but when I first joined Everyblock I thought I was in "West Humboldt" because of Rak's comments. Ha-ha. Guilty as charged on not living in West HP and not checking with the city before selecting my name. At least not until I can find a house to purchase beyond Pulaski.

But my point is "who cares what it is called if people are being shot"? These are my people.

People being shot is horrible! There was a time when people were being shot every day in the park, Humboldt Park that is. It was not that long ago, police fished out stolen vehicles and body parts from the lake more than fish. I and my neighbors worked long and hard to put those days behind us and now the park is becoming a great place to raise a family again. The West Humboldt Development Council has now taken on the problems that are occurring in what they call their neighborhood and that is great. Unfortunately when I tell anyone I live in Humboldt Park most respond with OMG and only recently do I hear, "you are lucky, that park is fantastic". Then I read another news head line "GANG SHOOTING IN HUMBOLDT PARK" and notice the address as far away as Cicero and Kinzie! I have talked to many of my neighbors and most agree that West of Central Park is West Humboldt Park and the high rate of violent crime does not truly reflect as to what is happening in Humboldt Park. It was extremely hard for all of us to get Humboldt Park from what it was to what it is now and these news head line are not helping. We are sad about what is happening all over Chicago, but we are doing all we can just to keep HP safe and wish we were able to help others more.

I wonder if they need help cleaning up. Growing up, my family's shop had a serious fire, and it made us feel very supported and provided a huge tangible benefit when a group of neighbors came by with gloves, trash bags, and a few hours to kill.

the insurance company will probably contract with a company for cleanup and mitigation. The people who own the van might be in need of help, too - wheelchair vans are NOT cheap.
