  • My conclusion is that the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing...or that people are pleading ignorance to give themselves time to get their act together.

If you haven't gone to the media yet, you need to. Email addresses are readily available on their websites. If people could generate media coverage of a ridiculous protest outside a bakery, you should surely be able to interest the media in an important summer resource being shut down because Rahm is charging the Park District for water.

  • "official" word from CPD facebook page: "No final decision has been made regarding Humboldt Park Beach. We are still assessing the situation."

Chicago Police Misconduct: 'Repeater' Officers Account For Millions In City Payouts

Exposé: 140 cops, 1% of the force account for more than 25% of the city's paid out settlements to victims of police abuse. And they stay in their jobs, repeating their misconduct.

  • Second City Cop must be all over this story, right? Right?

  • alex trebeck Ukrainian Village since 1990

Fortunately, the IL Supreme Court just ended the prohibition against photographing cops. (The police sure didnt want that to happen.) The army of public camera phones should discourage some of the bad behavior, and will also help document those who cant help themselves.

@Steven Vance - YES - all of those you have listed. I know the question was not directed at me - just chiming in here! :)

  • AbraChi 8 year East Humboldt park resident

@Steven Vance: Yes, inclusive of all that you listed. Essentially, any and all that would encourage more to spend their money, for entertainment and otherwise, on the West side of Western and not feel they have to cross to WP/Bucktown everytime.

This strip can become a destination as opposed to a 'shuttered after 6pm' desolate block where outsiders are apprehensive to visit and perhaps invest in.

We have tons of ideas if you are interested in hearing more off-line. 'We' are the East Humboldt Park Neighborhood Association.

I've lived at Haddon & Cambell for two years and I really enjoy the area. I used to live in Ukrainian Village and I wanted to stay nearby. Yes, there are issues, but as AbraChi points out, there are issues throughout Chicagoland. We live in a major metropolitan city and as such we take the good with the bad. Especially when considering a gentrifying area such as Haddon & Campbell. I see lots of young families in the area and I think that's a testament to how safe people feel in this neighborhood. I love being able to walk to the shops, restaurants, and bars on Chicago and Division. And you can't beat the proximity to downtown Chicago as well.

  • We have a duplex down on the 2600 block of W. Haddon (3 Bed/3 bath) if are are interested in that...cartfan19@yahoo.com

RETIRED CITY WORKER, CLEANING UP HUMBOLDT PARK

Abandoned Spud Trailer

This spud (food) trailer is located at 2831 W Division St. chained to a light pole and is an eye sore. I have only seen it use a few times a year. I talked to a ticket writer who said a ticket could not be issued because the vehicle did not have license plates on it like it should. I then noticed that it was in violation of several city ordinances, no permit, no contact information displayed which is required by the city. Can anyone suggest or knows of a way to get this abandoned vehicle off of the sidewalk and help beautify the view of Humboldt Park?

This is FANTASTIC news, and I understand they put in for a liquor permit, got to want and see on that. At one of the park meetings a woman who stated she represented the Puerto Rican Fest stated if this ANGLO event received a liquor permit she would notify hispanic community of Humboldt Park and demand a liquor permit for the Puerto Rican Fest also. It was questioned at the meeting by others if RoitFest attracted gangs or had a history of drunk violence and if it did not it should be allowed the liquor permit.I for one am so happy that this event will that place and thousands of people will see that Humboldt Park is a beautiful place for everyone to enjoy! Also I hear there will be another event this year in the park that is for all Chicagoians to enjoy, stay tuned for details.
