Is Illinois poised to elect its first black governor?

Chicago City Treasurer Kurt Summers said he is considering a run for governor. If he runs and wins he would become the first black governor of Illinois.

“I haven’t made a decision yet,” said Summers. “We’ve had a lack of leadership, especially up at the top in the governor’s office [and] people are fed up.”

  • 30+ yrs Long-time resident, trying to help keep it livable

Simple question: how important is it that he would be the first "black governor"? Will he campaign on that principle? Isn't that importance too subjective while the candidacy should be considered objectively?

click to enlarge The whopping success of Jordan Peele's has demonstrated that general audiences can appreciate horror movies for their subtext. A thinly veiled commentary on American race relations, Get Out uses the horror genre to dramatize fears about the persecution of African-Americans and the suppression of black identity.

Man Bites Dog: Downtown Water Tank To Be Saved
We've lamented before about how advances in modern plumbing and fire suppression technology are stripping so many of Chicago's buildings of their rooftop water tanks. Many of the remaining tanks we see adorning the roofs of the city's brick-and-timber buildings are a hundred years old or more. Repairs are expensive.

I adore water tanks! They are historical and rare. Glad that this one was saved.
