The decline of Edison/Norwood Park

The neighborhood is made up of City workers, that have no choice but to live here. What happens when good people like my neighbor start leaving ?
Starting to see a lot of moving vans and for sale signs in Park ridge. Is this the start of the decline of Edison / Norwood Park ?

I've been here for 10 years and it has increased, substantially, just this year. On Sundays, starting at 1pm, there is a plane every 2 minutes for 1.5 hours. Right now, it's about the same. It did not used to be this way. Maybe it doesn't bother some, but it bothers me. I hope the Alderman views these posts.. but guessing not.

Although I do not agree with Alderman O'Connors politics, I have no complaints about her office. Any concern or request I have called with has been taken care of or addressed immediately.

The neighborhood isn't declining. People will always want to live here. We have great schools, Edison Park has a great downtown. I hope with Alderman O'Connors office being in downtown Norwood Park, we will see a boom in our Northwest Highway and Raven area soon. We have convenient public transportation close by. It is a great place to live.

Wine and Dinner Service for a Group of 10

Wife entertaining coworkers in a few weeks. Any recommendations north of Irving and West of 94 in regards to a wine bar style restaurant? 10-12 people expected and not too loud as to allow for conversation?

  • BoilerGuy1 Boiler Guy and Neighborhood FF

Yeah... just seeing if our first thoughts were good since we usually go for dinner for 2 and not a large group. Thanks!

Mail delivery issues

Is anyone having issues with their mail delivery? I am getting pieces of other peoples mail delivered along with mine, and now I know that my mail is not being delivered properly as I received a past due notice from ComEd for a bill I never received. I always take the wrongly delivered mail to the correct house if close by, or to the mailbox for proper delivery. I have complained to the post office and would encourage others to do the same if they are having issues as their errors are going to cost the community in late fees and declining credit scores.

Over the past 2 years mail delivery has been VERY spotty, mostly when there are fill-ins. It is always worse over the summer! Some of the USPS postal workers that deliver the mail do not even come in proper uniform. I have called the main USPS number regarding no mail delivery or other peoples mail being delivered to my address and they document the complaint and are quite helpful.
However, if I call the local post office (for me is 6300 N Northwest Hwy.), the man I spoke with numerous times claims the mail is never delivered past 6pm because all of his employees are checked in by then. I know for a fact that is not true since I don't have mail by 6pm, but it magically shows up by 8pm. Very frustrating!!

How to file a complaint about mail delivery.

Hi, I have posted in the past on Everyblock my issues with mail delivery, and others have voiced issues as well. Once again mail was not delivered this past Saturday (October 11) to my house or the neighbors. If you are having issues with no delivery, missing bills, friends getting their mail destined to you as undeliverable please take a few minutes to make an official complaint with the U.S. Postal Service.

I know that many people have posted that the Norwood Park post office is not the best when it comes to resolution of issues and customer service, and I agree that their attitude is not the best. I have been successful in submitting complaints direct to the U.S. Postal service via their 800 number and their website and have received calls back and feel this is a better way of airing issues as they are documented and the carrier even stopped by to personally talk about the issues I reported to the postal service.

To issue a complaint (for any valid reason you have), you can call them at 1-800-275-8777 (Monday - Friday 8 AM - 8:30 PM ET, Saturday 8 AM - 6 PM ET).
You can also submit your complaint by clicking ‘e-mail us’ on the website

https://www.usps.com/customer-service/customer-service.htm

I have not had luck filling out all the fields on the website with iphone or ipad and suggest you use a desktop if submitting an issue via the website.

I have nothing against the postal service or my carrier, I just want my mail properly delivered and not have to worry about not receiving mail. I hope that others will take the time to document any issues they have with the Postal Service so our local delivery can be up to the standards that we expect from the U.S. Postal service. Please also inform any neighbors that are not on Everyblock and may be having issues.

Thanks

Answer from Alderman Mary O'Connor

An ordinance was passed by the City Council yesterday which further restricts the power of the City Council's Inspector General to investigate alleged wrong doing on the part of alderman. In this day and age with the City Council's history of sordid corruption, if anything the Inspector General's powers need to be expanded not diminished. For reasons unknown, our own 41st Ward Alderman Mary O'Connor voted for this ordinance. As our public representative I think Alderman O'Connor needs to explain to the people who elected her as to why she voted for this ordinance which will only serve to protect alderman accused of wrong doing.

I've had conversations with Jason. He only says what they ARE doing, but does not address the reason for my call. I told him I've given up, regarding the airplane noise, but that they should look at this site for concerns about those who are voting. The next time I emailed about the noise I asked for a phone number. He replied with an 800 #. It's apparent to me that they are not concerned.

I am directly under a flight path. They are so low and loud these days that we can't even open our windows. I am on Rosedale so you can only imagine my pain. MOC supported this (and is now trying to back pedal due to the criticism that's been received) and she still supports the 2015 runway coming. The FAA lied to residents (that has been proven) in regard to paths, noise, pollution and amount of planes. They also held meetings in communities that were either not going to be affected or in those areas where the noise would decrease. That's how they got their approval and now they wont do anything about it and will not install new noise monitors or start any new pollution studies.

  • And I appealed my property taxes and it was approved.

O'Connor claims Victory?

Alderman O'Connor is bragging she was key in American Airlines eliminating the noisy MD-80 aircraft. I have news for for you, American started reducing the fleet of MD-80's in 2012. In 2013 they got rid of 39 in favor of 737-800's. Nice try.

Question: Do we REALLY need 50 aldercreatures? Really? They are here to represent our neighborhood, but yet only a few actually get off their dead....and ring a doorbell or two to hear...I'm sorry, listen to what we have to say. To listen to our concerns, however, I have lived in Norwood Park for over 15 years and I NEVER....yes, never had my aldercreature ring my doorbell. Mary said Harlem was going to be paved to perfection. HA! The truck and cars still use it as a highway. Some speeding by at 60mph! The trucks bounce around because the sewers caps are not even with the new pavement. Our alley has pot holes in it and flood every time....yes, every time it rains. I have an example of how the city works....had a sewer in front of the house that kept flooding the street. I reported every time it did..FOR THREE YEARS! Then they Streets and San) came out and said everything was fine. No blockage. Then it literally rained the next day only to flood again! Another twelve months of calling and again S&S came out. This time I had the guy go into the sewer to find that it was blocked. Now...so far it hasn't flooded the street. My point is no one in the city that works listens to us taxpayers! NO ONE....and the airport noise??....HA! heard the FAA said they were not going to do another study because the first and only one was sufficient....and Rahm said he wasn't gonna change anything anyhow....so again...WHO IS ON OUR SIDE??.....let me take a guess.....

  • She's just trying to save face in regard to this whole plane fiasco. She supported it from the beginning and now is trying to back pedal on the whole thing while STILL supporting the new runway coming in 2015. If you haven't seen the proposals for the new runway I ask that you take a look. This neighborhood will be unbearable (even moreso than it is now). Nobody in any city office cares, though. What was once a nice neighborhood is becoming a place with an unhealthy quality of life.

Alderman O'Connor

Let's not let this discussion turn into a debate about comparing our 41st Ward alderman to her predecessor. That's not what this is about, and he's history anyway. What this is about is the lackluster, unresponsive, "in over her head" performance of our current alderman and why she needs to be replaced by someone who is responsible to the residents of the 41st ward and not beholden to
the puppet master in City Hall.
