New Kids Biking Camp in Edison/Norwood Park Area

There's a new kids' biking camp in Chicago, with summer sessions at four locations, including in the Edison/Norwood Park area at Sutherland Elementary. If you work for a kids' charity or nonprofit we have a free community event I can run past you. Bloggers also welcome to reach out for another session we have planned for you. Canadian Company Offers To Teach Your Kid How To Ride A Bike
OLD TOWN TRIANGLE - A Canadian company plans to open four outlets in schoolyards across the city this summer to teach kids as young as 3 how to ride a bike. Pedalheads, a 30-year-old Canadian company that has worked with 200,000 kids, expanded into the United States in the Pacific Northwest in 2014 and plans to add locations in Chicago and Denver this year.

Taxes

Wow, did anyone else get their escrow shortage in the mail today? Taxes for this dump are now 7500 compared to the 3400 they used to be when I bought the house. I'm so happy all the losers are sitting at home not working while we all support them.

Maybe I'll just go on the welfare, lazy loser plan since it seems more like a winning situation rather than giving everyone else my money.

  • True

  • More taxes, more fees, = less and less services in this City, especially here. Streets in EP crumbling everywhere, rusty light poles ready to fall down, last neighborhood to get snow plowed, salted... ya it's getting better alright.

New School In Dunning OK'd By CPS Board; Ebinger, Prussing To Get Annexes

Also on Wednesday, the board passed a resolution calling for the commission to start designing annexes for Prussing Elementary School, 4650 N. Menard Ave., and Ebinger Elementary School, 7350 W. Pratt Ave., both announced earlier this year.

This article has 5 other Chicago locations (Show)

The school is slated to open at the intersection of Irving Park Road and Oak Park Avenue in time for the 2019-20 school year.

Taft principal Mark Grishaber has lobbied hard in support of the alderman's proposal for a "Taft South," arguing that it could be the only way to relieve the school's overcrowding without stripping the resources that have helped Taft, 6530 W. Bryn Mawr Ave., climb to level 1 status.

At the same time, students and teachers at Steinmetz College Prep High School, 3030 N. Mobile Ave., have questioned why the $75 million school is being built at all, when the neighboring Steinmetz is hemorrhaging enrollment and enduring bone-deep budget cuts.

Also on Wednesday, the board passed a resolution calling for the commission to start designing annexes for Prussing Elementary School, 4650 N. Menard Ave., and Ebinger Elementary School, 7350 W. Pratt Ave., both announced earlier this year.

Ald. Anthony Napolitano (41st) personally thanked the board for its vote to build on Ebinger Wednesday, but he vowed to "keep the quest going" to get a similar addition for Dirksen Elementary School, 8601 W. Foster Ave., now operating around 160 percent capacity.

New School In Dunning OK'd By CPS Board; Ebinger, Prussing To Get Annexes
DOWNTOWN - The Chicago Public Schools Board of Education voted Wednesday to kick-start the design process for a "middle school project" in the Read-Dunning area, whose enrollment and attendance boundaries have yet to be decided. The city's Public Building Commission unveiled its intention to build the school, which would hold about 1,300 students, at a Jan.

  • This project will be partially funded through the Reed-Dunning TIF. The remainder, yes, they intend to borrow.

They've dithered with this portion of the property since 1991 when the state transferred it to the city and the TIF was created.

This project will be partially funded through the Reed-Dunning TIF. The remainder, yes, they intend to borrow.

They've dithered with this portion of the property since 1991 when the state transferred it to the city and the TIF was created.

    https://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/dcd/supp_info/tif/read_dunning_tif.html

Now the city is under a 9/11/2017 deadline to transfer it to CPS through a 99 year lease. See page 2: https://www.cpsboe.org/content/actions/2014_02/14-0226-OP1.pdf

It has become a major boondoggle since the proposed transfer of the North end of this portion of the property to the Chicago Park District for an athletic field failed two years ago.

That fast approaching deadline has created constantly changing plans driven by personal agendas, including the involvement of Taft High School's principal.

Undesirable outcomes result from the "need to do something" when facing a deadline.

  • More money spent, more congestion, and more segregation through selectivity. Just what Chicago does not need.

Package Thefts?

can someone update - heard about supposed package thefts in Edison Park near Harlem & NW Hwy? Rumors or something to be concerned about? Has anyone actually had a package stolen?

  • I believe we had packages stolen from our porch in Edison Park on 3/3/17. I've since installed cameras so the next time they try it, I'll post a picture of their faces and car description to share with the police and anyone else that is interested in keeping an eye out for criminal activity in the neighborhood.

  • It's been a problem all over the NW side. Home SweetHome has done what many people have done. To bad it's come to that!

  • thanks, heard to watch out for some silver car but haven't received any confirmation so I'll disregard. We just installed cameras as well and I will also update if anything happens.

Conca D'Oro bakery

I saw the bakery moving out a couple weeks ago and noticed a sign on the door this weekend stating it is closed until further notice. Does anyone know what happened? In addition the dress shop next to romance in bloom is suddenly vacant as well.

  • Edison Park CJM EP Neighbor

All noted. You may also want to have a conversation with Up Front Valet (whom you lease your lots to). They litter all over the neighborhood leaving their tickets thrown on the sidewalks and people's yards. Walk down oliphant across from zias and the yard at oliphant and Onarga to see the mess they are leaving in the neighborhood. Rude and disrespectful.

  • We don't lease the lots to the valet. The lots are leased to the restaurants. You can find all the restaurants contact info at www.edisonpark.com under Member Directory. I'll mention your concerns to them as well. I encourage you to contact them as well to voice your concerns.
