Dog boarding 6577 Avondale

I posted last week about this. Have to again. When walking my dog today, the barking was unbelievable. I heard a man scold a dog, and then I heard a dog whimper. Broke my heart. I called 911 but not sure they showed. I waited 10 min. In that 10 min, a white van showed with dog crates in the back. They slid the gate open..van pulled in, and they immediately shut the gate. They saw me watching. Please, if you see anything call 911. If this were a legit doggie daycare, why are they hiding everything behind the fence and have tarps covering the chain link fence? People aren't dropping their dogs off, a van is. So concerned.

Van was older model, white and unmarked. Lots of crates but no dogs inside.

Walgreens

Just heard the Walgreens at Touhy and Overhill is closing June 16. Sad to see it go if this is true.

  • That's not good to hear. It's somewhere to "go" for the kids to walk to.
    What's your source?

  • PattyM Concerned Citizen

I hope not. It is so convenient.

  • Confirmed the closing. They have a sign outside that it will be permanently closing.

I hate that it's so hard to find a place with a big dog! You may have the best luck renting a condo, from an owner-occupied 2 or 3 flat, or a small house Because fewer condo buildings have pet restrictions (as compared to rental) and condo owners are more likely to be persuaded by a well-behaved and trained dog. Get a letter of recommendation from your current landlord and neighbors saying it's not a "problem dog".

Craigslist lets you search by zip code and dog-friendly, so do other sites (eg https://www.rentjungle.com/jefferson-park-chicago-apartments-and-houses-for-rent/features:Pet%20Friendly/). I know some have breed restrictions, but you'll just have to make some calls. Good luck!

Water Meter Conversion

I am considering having the City install a water meter and would greatly appreciate any pro/con comments on doing such

  • CWCEdisonPark Olympia Park

I had the meter installed and received a credit on my next bill. A neighbor of mine not metered said his bill increased. Hope that helps.

  • I've had the meter for 2 years. My bill is about 50% lower. They offered afree rain barrel at the time. We use this on the garden plants and they look great.

The owner lives on Greenleaf and considers the park an extension of his back yard so he just opens his gate and lets his dogs run loose in the park. I would not care if this was a well behaved dog, but it is not. Has anyone else had similar problems with this animal? The owner should be ashamed of himself. I pay property taxes so I should be able to walk my dogs in the park without worrying about other dogs running loose.

Under normal circumstances this owner is ill-informed as a dog off leash encountering a leashed dog is often a recipe for disaster. The leashed dog will often feel threatened as it perceives itself at a disadvantage when it encounters a leash-free dog and will likely become aggressive as a defense mechanism...and that is likely to happen whether or not said dog is dog-aggressive under normal or controlled situations...LEASH YOUR DOG...if you want him/her to run, than go to a Dog Park or take him out for a jog with the leash on!!!

  • TDawg54 Resident of Old Norwood

True that GrammerCop. Our pit rescue is ok with dogs in our yard when everybody is off leash and
she's leashed when we leave the premises, but invariably we encounter owners who state their off leash dogs are 'just fine with other dogs.' When our dog reacts it's chalked up to another vicious pit.

Leash laws apply to all; this owner is negligent. I would take down his address and contact the police and animal control, the sooner the better.

Dog boarding on Avondale

In the past few days dogs have been barking from a commercial building - 6577 Avondale. In the past few days dogs have been barking from a commercial building - 6577 Avondale. I looked through the fence which they have blocked with tarp, and noticed at least 20 dogs outside in the concrete parking lot. I stopped a nice Chicago cop and he said Napolitano is aware of it but doesn't take office for another week. After further research, I found out that Mary O'Connor issued a boarding license to this address. There are also people living upstairs in the commercial building. If it's legit, and the dogs are taken care of, good. BUT, from what I saw I'm concerned. There is a van that pulls into this gated property off-loading dogs. They're roaming in a gated concrete area. Please call 911, like I did, if you are concerned.

  • From the SOUNDS of the DOGS barking not sure what is going on in there. I live by Olympia Park and I can hear the DOGS barking from inside my house with my windows closed. It is more penetrating than the airplane noise. Beep your horn by the corner of Olympia and Avondale and if dogs are outside you will understand what we are all talking about. It sounds like animal cruelty.

Can tickets/fines be issued for loud, disturbing noise from your neighbors like this?

  • Edison Park CJM EP Neighbor

Section 7-12-100 of the city code deals with excessive animal noise. Not sure if the link below will work, you may need to google to find the city code then look for the proper section.

    Good luck.

landscaping company?

does anyone know what happened to Mike O'Malley landscapers? I heard rumor he's not around anymore?? Also any neighborhood recommendations of companies that cut grass ?

  • McLoughlin Landscaping. We were extremely happy with their service.

  • I have used the O'Malleys for 15+ years for my lawn and cannot figure out what happened to them. No answers to my phone messages at their house. Finally gave up waiting for them and hopefully will have another crew come this weekend.

Great Comedy show tonight! No Bulls game or Hawks tonight, take in a show! :)

Hey all! I love this little site, a great space to just say "hello" and "hey we have a fun show to share in the neighborhood". I hope you all are having a wonderful day. Tonight Dwayne Kennedy from Comedy Central is back at our theater. We had a lovely intimate crowd of about 25 people last night to enjoy what was indeed an incredibly fun comedy show. He's so talented and well worth the visit!!

Tickets are just $15 and we're a nice byob venue. What a fun thing to do tonight with no sports on this evening. BTW GO BULLS GO HAWKS!

Thanks all!
Your friends at The WIP theater
Jessica, Tony, and Tim

  • EPget-a-life, if they offered free/discounted tickets, I'd bet you'd be the first in line for them!

  • I wasn't able to go either but looked him up and he's well known. I appreciated the heads up and did not consider it advertising anymore than I do when there's going to be a parade or other event.
