Harlem Bakery

Has anyone been to the new Harlem Bakery? Hopefully it's the same if not better than Oven Fresh Bakery that was once there. So far there is only one Yelp review on the place. I need more feedback. LOL

Whats going up.

What is going to be on the property behind Mathers at Neva? They are trearing down the homes there

  • TDawg54 Resident of Old Norwood

I believe the owner of the three rental units has sold and the space will be used for parking at Mathers. During special events (which are pretty popular with seniors in the 'hood) there is a definite need for more parking. Since side street parking is all permit and Higgins is pay the options for additional parking were not plentiful.

  • Ruth J long time resident

It will increase the size of the Mather parking lot and the parking will also be for the other storefronts on that block of Higgins. Perhaps with more parking available, it will make the currently empty storefronts more desirable for businesses.

Looking to buy in Edison park!

My wife and I are expecting our first baby and exclusively looking to buy a single family home in Edison park due to its awesome schools and zero crime, I'm concerned because there really isn't anything available for sale, should we wait till the spring for more homes to come on the market? Or are things going to heat up?

  • Dano Living the dream on NW side

Not yet 2 new runways coming soon
Check with your alderman he knows

  • Well, one is already open, they are eliminating one and one in 2020, so looks like it evens out.

I feel that the people who send there pets there need to know that they are putting the dogs in danger because no matter what the weather they are outside with no shelter from heat sun rain cold and soon to be snow.
I get so mad everytime i walk past. Ive tried to look in and you cant see anything. This only proves they are trying to hide somet hide something. Why is the sign missing?
It makes me sick. I emailed ald.Napolotono hopefully he will do something soon
I do know she had a place someplace else had to close and thats why shes here. The old place was A dogs world.

This business is disturbing to neighborhood due to all loud barking that goes on behind the high fences (which by does not shield the sound). If this business moved in and didn't disturb the neighborhood like it is doing then that is different. Why should neighbors and surrounding Avondale businesses who have been here for 20-30 years need to put up with this craziness. Drive by this place between 10am-3pm on Monday - Friday and you will understand why neighbors are mad!. No neighborhood should stand up for this disturbing business. Shame on leaders in our community including alderman who have gone radio silent on this issue...he got his media day but then no follow-up.

This is not gossip - it's having a voice and caring about the neighborhood I live in and keeping it up so that the value of my house doesn't suffer. The Chamber reads these comments and has replied in the past, so I'm hoping one day they will respond to the neighborhood concerns, not that it's legal and licensed.

If it's such a good dog daycare then put up signs, advertise, make it look nice, get some neighborhood clients, and stop hiding everything behind a makeshift gate, tarps strung up on whatever structure, and surveillance cameras.

Hello Everyone!

My name is Aarti Israni and I am graduate student at DePaul University. I am currently working on a research study to learn more about the perceptions of police usage of social media to support crime prevention and community policing. I am seeking volunteers to participate in my research study.

To participate you must:

(a) currently live in the city of Chicago
(b) be at least 18 years of age
(c) be somewhat familiar with social media

More details about the study:
As a part of this study, you will be asked to complete an interview. The interview will include questions about the frequency of your social media usage, your purposes for using social media, the ways in which you use social media, and your thoughts on police using social media to support crime prevention and community policing. I will also collect some personal information about you such as your age and how long you have lived in Chicago. The interview will be conducted in-person. If there is a question in the interview you do not want to answer, you may skip it.

Each study will last about an hour. I am happy to meet you at your local public library. I would like to find a time between January 28th and February 12th.

To sign up to participate:
If you would like to participate, please send an e-mail to aisrani2@gmail.com and we can begin scheduling. If you know of anyone that would be interested to participate in this study and may meet the criteria above, please feel free to forward this message to them.

Thanks and Regards,

Aarti

How do you feel about the firefighters

Their pay, benefits & retirement are definitely in their favor. Firefighter down the street paid about 100$K / year. Luxury suv. Disney parks multiple times a year. Admittedly, by his wife, that he does so little at work many times, he got a nursing job just to keep his mind stimulated. Listen up: Pentions were introduced back in the day because economy was thriving & civil servant jobs paid junk. Now these jobs are the most desirable to working class folks. Don't deny it. They get great pay, great benefits , and a pension , + doesn't the spouse get health benefits in retirement as well. (( wait- who exactly served the city ?!?)) doesn't make sense. Not sustainable. All at taxpayers expense.

I understand - to question it or them , or what they do - seems unpatriotic. But I'm real !
They are not running into fires every day folks.

  • Well, I guess the public has spoken as to how they "feel about firemen".
Thank God most of us have their backs, because we know, push come tonshove, they can save our butts!

As for the original troll poster.... take a hike.

For the original poster AND EP6: You 2 seriously must be in cahoots and/or are truly miserable/ jealous human beings. I don't know where to even begin as my mind is just racing with thoughts to write and how I want to slap both of u upside the head! I've been married to a firefighter with 20 years on the job. He has earned every friggin penny for what he goes thru on his shift! He pays into his pension, knowing he gets no social security. Pays rising Heath insurance costs for our family. Plus, the extra life insurance policy we took out to protect me and the kids if he gets killed in a fire. All this adds up. Do they sleep/drink coffee at firehouse? Sure do! But, when you're sound asleep, he's on "watch" all night and has to stay up listening for calls to come in. He comes home in a.m. exhausted and has to recover. They never know what their next call is: Fire, accident, elderly assist, CO detector, fire alarm, shooting, etc. Having to deal with any of this for 24 hours at a time on any given day trumps your BS whining! They put their lives and mental well being on the lives for morons like you who hide behind your PC lashing out because of jealousy or hatred. Next time there's a fire and your child is hiding in their bedroom, YOU go into a burning building and save them! There's a lot that goes with a firemans salary that you have no clue about. Now shoo away and go back to the hole you came from! Unbelievable!
