Moretti's failed inspection

I see Moretti's delivery vehicles rouyinely darting thru Edison and Norwood Park. So, business must be good. Prices are not cheap. And based on this and other failed inspections, they do not practice safe foo handling. Perhaps it's time to venture out and find a better and safer eatery...one that won't get my family sick.

Read the health report. Some of the offenses make your stomach turn.
(i.e. "interior surfaces of ice machine not clean with pink slimy substance around inner part where ice is being made.) yuck!!!

2 charged with pickpocketing customers at Park Ridge restaurant
A man and woman have been charged with pickpocketing multiple customers at a restaurant in north suburban Park Ridge. Keith Johnson, 49, of the 1200 block of West 74th Street in Chicago, was charged with one felony count of identity theft and one felony county of unlawful possession of credit cards, police said.

Plumber who can do tile work

Any recommendations for plumber who can replace the hardware in a shower and then do the tile work?

  • Two very different jobs. It's like asking for a dentist that can also perform heart surgery.

How to file a complaint about mail delivery.

Hi, I have posted in the past on Everyblock my issues with mail delivery, and others have voiced issues as well. Hi, I have posted in the past on Everyblock my issues with mail delivery, and others have voiced issues as well. Once again mail was not delivered this past Saturday (October 11) to my house or the neighbors. If you are having issues with no delivery, missing bills, friends getting their mail destined to you as undeliverable please take a few minutes to make an official complaint with the U.S. Postal Service.

I know that many people have posted that the Norwood Park post office is not the best when it comes to resolution of issues and customer service, and I agree that their attitude is not the best. I have been successful in submitting complaints direct to the U.S. Postal service via their 800 number and their website and have received calls back and feel this is a better way of airing issues as they are documented and the carrier even stopped by to personally talk about the issues I reported to the postal service.

To issue a complaint (for any valid reason you have), you can call them at 1-800-275-8777 (Monday - Friday 8 AM - 8:30 PM ET, Saturday 8 AM - 6 PM ET).
You can also submit your complaint by clicking ‘e-mail us’ on the website

https://www.usps.com/customer-service/customer-service.htm

I have not had luck filling out all the fields on the website with iphone or ipad and suggest you use a desktop if submitting an issue via the website.

I have nothing against the postal service or my carrier, I just want my mail properly delivered and not have to worry about not receiving mail. I hope that others will take the time to document any issues they have with the Postal Service so our local delivery can be up to the standards that we expect from the U.S. Postal service. Please also inform any neighbors that are not on Everyblock and may be having issues.

Thanks

Of course, I should have expected nothing less (or more, as it were) from the USPS. Phoned the USPS; the automated system gave a wait time range of 12-20 minutes. Well, 39 minutes now and still holding with no further updates or options from their system. And the Muzak is loud and awful enough to make one want to hangup! Thankfully I have a fully charged battery and plenty of other things to do while I wait... Maybe someone will pickup before they shut down the switchboard at 8 ET. Brace yourself if you call, as you may or may not be in for quite a time killer.

  • I had a lot of problems last winter with the norwood park post office not delivering mail. They've been good so far this winter for us in East Norwood.

  • The call I made was eventually answered after 53 minutes on hold. The customer service agent took the information and typed it into their system (thoroughly and s-l-o-w-l-y). I've recently received W-2 forms and credit card bills that don't belong to our house recently. The last straw was yesterday's mail delivery; the mail carrier retrieved a piece I'd put a note on ("Delivered to wrong address") and proceeded to leave three pieces in our mail box, one properly addressed to us, and the other two addressed to a neighbor!!

Harlem Bakery

Has anyone been to the new Harlem Bakery? Hopefully it's the same if not better than Oven Fresh Bakery that was once there. So far there is only one Yelp review on the place. I need more feedback. LOL

  • The same here I've got burned too many times at oakmill bakery. Everything is dry the bread, cakes. The best bakery is House of Cakes on Canfield just 1/2 block north of Talcott.. Everything there is Delicious!!

  • joanie 20+ year Resident of Jefferson Park

Keep heading down the street to Allegretti's Bakery at 7717 W. Lawrence in Norridge. It's in the strip mall at Lawrence and Overhill next to the park. Best bakery in the area IMO. Independently owned with a flair for Italian offerings. Cannoli fresh on site and the best Italian cookies that I've ever had.

Looking to buy in Edison park!

My wife and I are expecting our first baby and exclusively looking to buy a single family home in Edison park due to its awesome schools and zero crime, I'm concerned because there really isn't anything available for sale, should we wait till the spring for more homes to come on the market? Or are things going to heat up?

  • ABW

We looked for months in EP, Edgebrook and Norwood Park without finding anything we liked. I signed up for alerts on Redfin and as soon as something popped up we went to see it. Finally found our house the day it came on the market. There were four other offers the day it went on the market. Watch for listings like a hawk and be prepared to act fast! EP is an amazing neighborhood and worth the wait.

Whats going up.

What is going to be on the property behind Mathers at Neva? They are trearing down the homes there

  • TDawg54 Resident of Old Norwood

I believe the owner of the three rental units has sold and the space will be used for parking at Mathers. During special events (which are pretty popular with seniors in the 'hood) there is a definite need for more parking. Since side street parking is all permit and Higgins is pay the options for additional parking were not plentiful.

  • Ruth J long time resident

It will increase the size of the Mather parking lot and the parking will also be for the other storefronts on that block of Higgins. Perhaps with more parking available, it will make the currently empty storefronts more desirable for businesses.

I feel that the people who send there pets there need to know that they are putting the dogs in danger because no matter what the weather they are outside with no shelter from heat sun rain cold and soon to be snow.
I get so mad everytime i walk past. Ive tried to look in and you cant see anything. This only proves they are trying to hide somet hide something. Why is the sign missing?
It makes me sick. I emailed ald.Napolotono hopefully he will do something soon
I do know she had a place someplace else had to close and thats why shes here. The old place was A dogs world.

This business is disturbing to neighborhood due to all loud barking that goes on behind the high fences (which by does not shield the sound). If this business moved in and didn't disturb the neighborhood like it is doing then that is different. Why should neighbors and surrounding Avondale businesses who have been here for 20-30 years need to put up with this craziness. Drive by this place between 10am-3pm on Monday - Friday and you will understand why neighbors are mad!. No neighborhood should stand up for this disturbing business. Shame on leaders in our community including alderman who have gone radio silent on this issue...he got his media day but then no follow-up.

This is not gossip - it's having a voice and caring about the neighborhood I live in and keeping it up so that the value of my house doesn't suffer. The Chamber reads these comments and has replied in the past, so I'm hoping one day they will respond to the neighborhood concerns, not that it's legal and licensed.

If it's such a good dog daycare then put up signs, advertise, make it look nice, get some neighborhood clients, and stop hiding everything behind a makeshift gate, tarps strung up on whatever structure, and surveillance cameras.
