Storm 8/2/15

How is everyone's neighborhood with the storm? By us, we have many trees down and debris laying all over. But heard many are without power.

  • Still surprised by the amount of large branches still laying around. Called Alderman Napolitano's office and got no response. Disappointing

  • I think all Naps office does is enter it in the computer. Where is the change he promised.??

Zoning variance / redevelopment of 6675 n Oketo

There are plans for redevelopment of the church at Oketo and North Shore. A developer is seeking a zoning variance to construct four homes on the lot. The Edison Park Community council is holding a meeting this Wednesday at 7pm at Edison Park Inn to discuss the plans and vote on how to use their one vote for the official zoning meeting which will be held on August 3rd. Please attend if this will impact you.

Edison Park Fest

I see the fest is back Aug 14 weekend.
Anyone actually like this fest that lives in the hood? I'd like to see it go.

My observation is its a bunch of drunks being served free beer by their buddies working the beer truck. Cant see any value it has for the neighborhood.

  • IMHO Been here long enough to know

It does when it's your buddy on the beer truck.

  • I know plenty of people that enjoy it. It's a great chance to get together with friends that have lived in Edison Park that grew up here. I have friends that travel 50 miles to visit and have a good time. If the worst problems are people getting free beer it's a total success.

  • Lived here 2+ years third EP fest. We absolutely LOVE it and have had friends over every year for it.

Is Edison Park a safe place to live in?

Hy, we are a family with a 1 year old, we've been living in old irving park/ portage park for about three years now and recently things are getting pretty shady around here, shootings, gangs, even a drive by shooting at our building, we really want to move and I like Edison Park but if I don't know if it has the same issues as Irving Park..... Thank you!

chris, you have tactical unit officers patrolling Jeff Park; their mandate is to eradicate any gang activity by any means, as my adult son with Tourette's found out when he was swarmed by the black shirts. Part of their reasoning: he was wearing a Cubs BB cap 'the wrong way.'...

chris, you have tactical unit officers patrolling Jeff Park; their mandate is to eradicate any gang activity by any means, as my adult son with Tourette's found out when he was swarmed by the black shirts. Part of their reasoning: he was wearing a Cubs BB cap 'the wrong way.' So with that kind of mentality it's a wonder there are any baseball caps left in JP.

That aside, heck yeah when you're worried about your children staying safe in a neighborhood it's time to get the hell out of Dodge. You can be a vocal proponent for your neighborhood, but if I'm worried about walking my stroller down Irving Park Road, then I'd be looking for a new place to live.

We made the move a few years ago into the Edison park school neighborhood and never looked back. We now have a wonderful sense of community. A truly wonderful place to raise a family - surrounded by positive influences. If you are having any doubts, this is the time to make the move. It's easier to relocate when kids are young, before they get attached to friends and surroundings. Good luck!
