Rude Neighborhood People with Dogs

I live on the corner of Oriole/Jarvis and I am fed up with the rude dog owners who walk their dog past my house and let them deposit feces on my lawn and on the sidewalk outside of my gate to my yard. The City of Chicago Dog Ordinance reads as follows:

7-12-420 Removal of excrement. No person shall appear with a pet upon the public ways or within public places or upon the property of another, absent that person's consent, without some means for the removal of excrement; nor shall any person fail to remove any excrement deposited by such pet. This section shall not apply to a blind person while walking his or her guide dog.
Any person found to have been in violation of this section shall be fined not less than $50.00 nor more than $500.00 for each offense.

I am tired of stepping in your dogs feces when I mow my lawn and fed up with stepping in it when I go outside my gate on the sidewalk. I plan on making sure that any person found violating this City of Chicago Law will be punished in accordance with the fines stated above. Don't say you haven't been warned.

  • Amen to that...I'm a dog owner and find it appalling to walk past Onahan School and see poop left behind by irresponsible dog owners. A local Girl Scout troop made some homemade doggy-doo bag dispensers, filled them with bags and hung them from the trees around the school...what a neat idea!!! It worked for a short while but I just saw a pile yesterday morning...come on fellow dog owners...pick up after yourselves!!!

People only need to take a bag or two with them to clean up after their dog. They are taking them for a walk and what do they expect? I have found that by tieing two bags to the leash each time I come in from walking my dogs helps me remember to have my bags for the next walk. Pet superstores sell little gadgets that hold a bunch of small bags that can be hooked on the dogs collar. Since we're on the subject why do people use those extendable leases (?). Your dog should be under your control all the time for others safety and his safety. They like the security of being by you. They shouldn't be able to just roam over neighbors lawns, just as we or our children shouldn't do this. They should walk on the sidewalk with you, by your side. When they need to go, pick it up! I'm saying this and I am an avid dog lover. I practice what I'm preaching. A lot of people just don't have any respect for anyone else, this is really a concern. What are they teaching their children?

  • get some critter ridder, works for the cats who were frequenting my lawn and garden bed as their litter box.

Article from Taste of Park Ridge - 200 teens gather and attack a man

I know this is Park Ridge, but it seems to be the norm for any fest in the area. Every year during Edison Park Fest, teens gather at Olympia Park in such great numbers it's unbelievable. Last year, a few kids threw beer cans at us while we were sitting in our front yard. and later damaged our fence. They also overturned the large dumpster by the Park District building. I hope it's controlled this year. This article is disturbing - http://www.myfoxchicago.com/story/26034602/teens-charged-with-attacking-man-near-taste-of-park-ridge

I think this is the reason why Norwood Park has NOTHING as far as neighborhood fest. Because not only most of the residents don't want to have anything but the idiots that ruin events like this.

Someone just told me they heard the Fest organizers will be requesting a $5 donation to assist with security. Hope these requested funds assist in avoiding damages, trash in the neighborhood etc and not just patrols on the Fest grounds and repaving parking lots for the valets to park cars...

Dumpster on Oliphant and NW Hwy

Is this for the former Larsen Drug/Ruby D and Me?

The unofficial rumor I've heard from a waitress at the curragh is that they are remodeling the space to move their breakfast café Lexi Lou to.

I have also asked the construction guys working and they said they're working on a breakfast place.

Once again these are just rumors that I've heard.

Wanted: TV Antenna Installer

I have decided to ditch my $100 cable bill and just get an antenna instead - nothing beats free HD TV. I'm looking to get a TV antenna installed on our roof - or possibly in our attic. I want someone who is experienced and knows what they are doing. I don't want any leaks in our new roof, I don't want the antenna blowing off or bending in the wind, and I want the antenna cable properly grounded.

Any recommendations?

Based on my research, there is no such thing as an HD specific antenna. Antennas are still exactly the same as they always were - they will pick up whatever signal is being broadcast. What really changed is that TVs need to have a tuner to interpret the new digital data that are now in that signal. All modern TVs can do this. 'HD' is just something antenna marketers put on the box to sell their antennas. With my "HD" antenna, I get about 30 channels, too. (Some are in HD, some aren't, but all are digital.) The major stations have several sub-channels with different content, which is really great. They are listed on my TV for example as 2.1, 2.2 etc.

The problem with CBS is that it is being broadcast on VHF. All the other Chicago channels are broadcast on UHF. Most indoor antennas that you can buy at places like Best Buy will only pick up UHF channels. Or maybe they will get the VHF, too, but not very well. That is the case with that Terk antenna I bought from Best Buy. The Terk cost about $50 several years ago. The new Flatwave antenna I bought at Home Depot was only $30-35. The Flatwave gets CBS pretty well. (CBS signal strength on Terk = 30% vs. Flatwave = 70%). But reception of WTTW got a little worse. (WTTW on Terk = 90% vs. Flatwave = 70%). I have this antenna plugged straight into the TV and just hung on the wall next the window. It is about as thick as a piece of card stock. It is possible that if it was on the second floor (instead of the first) that reception would be even better.

Sometimes in cities, particularly in high-rise areas, the signal will get bounced around between the buildings so much it causes interference. So even though you may have a strong signal it is garbled. This is why a signal booster may not help you in a city.

An outdoor antenna will always get better reception.

I would try the Flatwave - it is cheap and easily returnable if it doesn't work out for you!

  • Here are a couple of links - one for the Winegard Flatwave, and another link for a virtually identical antenna that also gets great reviews, the Mohu Leaf.
