Growing Downtown Edgebrook and the New Bike Trail Coming Soon

Greetings Neighbors,

As one of my next community improvement projects, it's time to take a look at leveraging the promise of the new bike trail to grow downtown Edgebrook. Are you interested in being part of this conversation? Like all good civic efforts, it begins with sharing (talking and listening) and then finding leaders to do whatever is going to be done (assuming the community wants to do something).

We can discuss some here and then, depending on the interest in providing the leadership to take a deeper look with the intent of doing something, move to an in person meeting. Let's gauge the level of interest first.

For now, are you up for helping to grow downtown Edgebrook? Specifically, beyond ideas - are you up for leading with other citizens? This effort, if it goes forward, will be informed by our three civics - Edgebrook Community Association (ECA), Everyday Edgebrook (EE) and the Edgebrook Chamber of Commerce (ECC), grounded in democracy and founded in the voices of citizens. I have already met with all three Boards and they have each given the thumbs up for this effort, whatever that is going to be....

Questions? Contact me at Jac.Charlier@gmail.com.

Like all good community work, it begins and ends with the citizens. That's just how it's done.

Another bridge will be built to allow the trail to soar over the Milwaukee District North Line Metra tracks near Indian Road and Ardmore Avenue.

North Branch Trail Second Phase Delayed As Price Tag Soars
FOREST GLEN - Plans to build the final phase of the North Branch Trail from Forest Glen to Mayfair are on hold after the price tag for the multi-use path soared beyond the project's $2 million budget, Cook County Forest Preserve District officials said Monday.

JimmyMac you are a fountain full of information. The Skokie valley trail tee's at Rockland, you can go west into Libertyville, or east to the Navy Base like Jimmy says. Then from what I see it will continue north thru Waukegan and Zion and into Kenosha Wisconsin. Just beware through out Waukegan and Zion, not the best of cities to be riding through. I just know this from driving around there. I see the trail all the time. I think if you head west into Libertyville you might run into the Des Plaines River trail, which I rode some a long time ago, but looks like a real nice ride now. There is a place called Independence Grove at Buckley (137) and Milwaukee (21) where you can park you car and get onto the Des Plaines River Trail. Pretty good size recreation area with lots of parking and a Nature Building (Field House?) Looks like a real good ride. I have never done it but I would like to some time. Limestone Path in the Lake County Forest Preserve Area.

  • Sauganash Park Dave,

I purposefully only mentioned what I know to be asphalt paved for the road bike crowd, I ride a high-end titanium frame road bike and do not ride on limestone paths/trails. That stuff is hard on the drive train. At the tee at 176 (Rockland Rd )...

    Sauganash Park Dave,

I purposefully only mentioned what I know to be asphalt paved for the road bike crowd, I ride a high-end titanium frame road bike and do not ride on limestone paths/trails. That stuff is hard on the drive train. At the tee at 176 (Rockland Rd ) it is paved complete all the way to the East but not all the way to the West. I agree with you about Waukegan and Zion. For the reasons you stated, I generally do not gofurther north. If riding into Wisconsin, there are far better routes.
