Jonathon Herrera, 19, of the 5300 block of North Lovejoy was charged with first-degree murder, burglary and armed robbery, according to Chicago Police.

About 5 p.m. April 1, Herrera was buzzed into Bart’s Coins & Collectibles in the 3900 block of North Pulaski by the store owner, 56-year-old Petro Rymar, prosecutors said at Herrera’s bond hearing Friday.

Rymar, of the 4900 block of North Avers, was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. Police initially said he had been shot, but an autopsy found he died of multiple sharp force injuries and his death was ruled a homicide.

Herrera was arrested at 5 p.m. Tuesday in the 5700 block of West Higgins and charged with murder and burglary, authorities said. He was ordered held without bond Friday.

Chicago’s First Metra-Oriented Development Proposed in Edgebrook

The development, at 5306 West Devon, would be only a five-minute walk from Metra, and a short pedal to the North Branch Trail. Image: Google Maps

...extension that will take the trail three miles further southeast into the city, to around Foster and Pulaski...

However, putting docks by the new development might not make much sense from Divvy’s point of view. The nearest existing station is more than three miles southeast at St. Louis and Catalpa, by Northeastern University, and the system isn’t slated to expand northwest this year.

Ambrosia will present the proposal at the next meeting of the ward’s zoning committee on Wednesday, May 4, at the Olympia Park fieldhouse, 6566 North Avondale.

    Streetsblog Chicago
So far, almost all of the 30-or-so transit-oriented developments planned, under construction, or completed in Chicago have been near CTA stations and within a few miles of the Loop. However, a four-story condominium building planned for the Edgebrook neighborhood on the Far Northwest Side would be the city's Metra-friendly TOD, more than 11 miles from Daley Plaza.

Edgebrook Teachers Object To One-Day Strike But Will Honor Picket Line

The staff of Edgebrook Elementary School, 6525 N. Hiawatha Ave., "overwhelmingly voted NOT to use April 1, 2016 as a strike day. Unfortunately, our vote was in the minority."

Edgebrook Teachers Object To One-Day Strike But Will Honor Picket Line
EDGEBROOK - Teachers at Edgebrook Elementary School oppose plans to hold a one-day strike April 1 - but will honor the Chicago Teachers Union picket line, they told parents in a letter sent home Tuesday. The letter, signed by 27 teachers, told parents that they would "much rather be in the classroom, teaching our students," than outside protesting state funding and local school management.

@zip, I think you need to expand your thinking a little. A 30 lb rock will do a lot of damage to a vehicle, right?
It doesn't have to be a hard impact where the bicyclist throws the vehicle into the curb or oncoming traffic. Merely, scrapping the side of a vehicle as they pass by with the handlebars/pedals/bicycle frame will cause plenty of paint damage. Ever walk up to your vehicle and notice a long scratch across the side of your car? All it took is a $1.50 key to do that. Weighs ohhhh....less than an ounce.
I guess your one of those who immediately calls their insurance after the hail pounds your vehicle? Maybe not. I think you may understand my thinking by now.

  • @FK Pretty sure @zip was talking about damage/wear and tear to the road. But along your line of thinking, when a cyclist collides with a car - never mind the property damage, let's talk about who winds up with broken bones and lacerations. And that's if they're lucky. I can't imagine being struck from behind by a car on Cicero Speedway; I'd be hit by a ton or more of metal traveling at least 20-30mph faster than me.
