Since O’Hare’s new runways opened the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) in cahoots with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has increased air traffic over the most densely populated neighborhoods. This has generated excessive noise and air pollution affecting thousands of families in the way we live, learn and play. Homes were bulldozed, forests destroyed and cemeteries relocated with no public input to build additional runways that affect the quality of life for thousands. Regardless of our rude airport neighbor, some aspects to be thankful for:
-No Zika virus . Those 190 pounds of toxic jet fuel burned over our homes every flight minute sure does a fine job on mosquitoes. -Stress Relief. The Marine service has banned swimming with the dolphins due to sleep cycle interruption causing stress. People do not fall under this government oversight. -Presidential Complaints. Donald Trump has a filed lawsuit for damages based on air traffic at his Florida resort for "creating an unreasonable amount of noise, emissions and pollutants'. Look for a new FAA Director. - O'Hare Noise redistribution Program. The CDA/FAA initiated a night time runway rotation program called ‘Fly Quiet’. Oxymoron? -Culinary treasures. Alderman tried to get control of the airport back to the people’s representatives. At the hearings the measure failed as the interests of the Culinary and Con$truction group$ far outweighed the Quality of Life and health testimony. -Property tax breaks. Mailed notices that the homes under the O'Hare runway approaches are eligible for lower assessments. Unfortunately our homes keep losing value. -TSA lines cause delays. Complaints of long lines at TSA security. Most due to Chicagoans with one way tickets out of town. -The big engine that couldn't. As O'Hare is touted as the economic engine for the Chicago area, why is it then that all our local taxes keep rising and services keep getting cut. In the words of many local politicos…Where’s Mine.
