Alderman Joe Moreno paid $18,000 by “Centrum Wicker Park” Developer

Alderman Joe Moreno (Ward 1) got about $18,000 in political contributions from Centrum Properties / Partners, developer for huge “Centrum Wicker Park” 250 units in apartment towers, condos & townhomes on 2 acres at 16XX W Division / 12XX N Milwaukee Ave. However, Centrum didn’t contribute PayToPlay $ to Alderman Scott Waguespack (Ward 32) for their “606” mixed-use plan 95 apartments + Aldi’s (1767 N Milwaukee @ Leavitt) in adjacent neighborhood. Waguespack told DNAinfo "In the 1st Ward, they are going, 'I'll give you more height and density if you give more affordable units.' It's just something frankly that I have not pushed.”

Massive Wicker Park Development Could Bring Private School, 189 Homes
WICKER PARK - The massive "Wicker Park Connector" development that would span two vacant acres on the neighborhood's southeast east and include homes, retail and possibly even a private school could be underway by spring. The 189-unit proposal envisions three forms of housing - apartments, condos and townhomes.

  • And those are the donations that were easily tied to Centrum -- wonder how many more there are. And Centrum is just one of many developers.

I'm all for development, and actually think the Wicker Park project is a positive thing (although a little too suburban in look and feel), but this level of pay-to-play really bothers me.

Cuts to bus service on Ashland Avenue and Western Avenue

Originally we were told an express bus would be added but this is NOT true! The intention is to cut service stops such as Chesnut street (near the senior housing center), Thomas and ALL intermediary stops, then cut the number of buses serving the route. PLEASE call your Alderman to protest this change. The best way to Ghetoize a community to cut services such as transportation. Call them early and call them often, they need to hear from the community NOW! - Thank-you!

  • Any thoughts on A/B stops like the trains in Chicago used to do? Not sure why they ever ended that... it was great. So, in other words, keep all the bus stops but have every other bus skip half the stops which would speed each bus. You could then has "all stops" during rush hour on high demand streets. I'm not an expert, but might that speed routes while maintaining the stops?

  • future alderman future alderman

Please, CTA drivers have enough trouble remembering to follow basic traffic laws. The express busses were touted as a way to save time, therefore the locals should have no eliminated stops.
