Jewelry repair

Can anyone recommend a good place to take a necklace for repair? It's a very fine gold chain and one of the links broke and needs to be reattached. Seems like a simple fix. Thanks much!

Input meeting regarding Trader Joe's on old Miller Lumber site

Trader Joe's is actively planning a location at Division and Honore, at the former site of Miller Lumber. This has replaced the plans for a condo building with restaurants below, which was approved last year.

Although I'm sure we would all like a TJ's in the neighborhood, this site presents significant challenges for a grocery/liquor store operation, and the Parent-Teacher organization from LaSalle School across the street is expressing a very detailed list of concerns, essentially opposing the project. Although I'm sure we would all like a TJ's in the neighborhood, this site presents significant challenges for a grocery/liquor store operation, and the Parent-Teacher organization from LaSalle School across the street is expressing a very detailed list of concerns, essentially opposing the project. This was list was forwarded to me in an email, too long to post here. East Village Association will probably get info up on their web site soon.

There is a public meeting at LaSalle School, Monday, March 3, at 6 p.m. to discuss the project.

  • Drop-off is between 7:30 and 8:00 a.m. pick-up is any time between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. Drop-off and pick-up occur both on Honore and Wolcott. I think a lot of the safety issues could be alleviated if TJ committed to putting in a traffic signal at that intersection.

I don't think this should be a you're either with us or against us or if the school PTA prevents the TJ from opening then 'they are a parasite' - I think that's a bit over the top. At the meeting it was not only LaSalle II parents who raised concerns - the EVA was there along with other local businesses - including Chopin Theater.

Let's keep in mind that this is an uphill battle for TJ - They need to go back to City Council with new building plans for their Type 1 zoning approval; They need to lift the moratorium (both state and local); they need to convince CDOT and surrounding neighbors that a two-way street will not negatively impact the traffic flow to surrounding streets; and They need to (unless they are willing to pay for one) convince CDOT that a traffic signal is not necessary.

I don't think the school or other parties who have raised concerns are saying that they absolutely don't want it (with the exception of local business owners - who were pretty adamant they do not want a national chain on Division). However I do think it's fair for them to raise concerns and for TJ to be a good neighbor and address those concerns. Quite frankly it doesn't really bode well for their "great neighbor" representation when they - based upon information I heard - try to pull building plans based upon different plans than what was originally approved and considered by the community under the Type 1 rezone - but maybe I misunderstood another post re: the history of the site/development.

  • Alisa DNAinfo Chicago reporter/Wicker Park resident

Thanks, Nicole. And i agree it is not a for or against thing. And yes, there was a type 1 planned zoning for the prior development plan and now it will revert back to the original zoning, per developer's lawyer Jim Banks. The developer switched lawyers and was previously working with Rolando Acosta, who was lawyer for 1611 w. Division.

Water/Ice on Augusta

Anyone know what's going on with the water/ice on the north side of Augusta just west of Ashland? One sad car has been frozen into place for a few days and the water/ice seems to be creeping up daily.

  • MECO Power, Inc. MECO Power, Inc.

Wondering if there might be a burst water pipe and it's pooling there. You might want to call 311 and give them the exact street address.

  • Colleen Neighborhood watch captain. Not afraid to call 311

I just walked past. That area is blocked and there is a construction crew working on something.

  • Yeah - just got a text from home with a picture of the work being done. Glad they're working on it! I see the sad car is now gone, too. Hopefully without too much damage!

Professional couple seeking apartment

We're in our 30's, have steady employment and rental histories, and have excellent landlord references. We're the kind of tenants who will take good care of your property, be friendly neighbors, and will stay for multiple years and get involved in the community. It should go without saying that we are quiet and never disruptive.

If you have an apartment coming available in April, we would love to learn more about it. Contact me through my profile or comment on this post. Thanks!

  • I might have a top floor recent gut rehad 2 bed 2 bath available in April near Paulina and Grand. If there is an interest in learning about it, please let me know. bmodi1@comcast.net

I'm an agent. Send me an email with more details (budget in particular) and I'll see if we have anything! Eoshoops@gmail.com
