Moving to Cragin

Hi, everyone!

I'm so excited to have found this website. I grew up in the NW suburbs and am moving back to the area after seven years in Columbus and Philadelphia, come the end of May. I'll be living around Belmont and Laramie. (I was under the impression that it was considered in Portage Park, but it seems to be listed as Cragin here on EveryBlock!)

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and ask for any tips and suggestions...

Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and ask for any tips and suggestions for a person who is new to the neighborhood! What are the good places to eat or hang out? Where do you do your shopping? What should a new person know about this area?

Thanks so much :) Looking forward to being neighbors!

Jess

Hi Jess, Welcome to the neighborhood, I've lived here 40+ years. Living at Belmont and Laramie, you have Bristol right on the corner. It's a Polish deli/liquor store. You can pick up most of your daily needs there, kind of a mini A&G's. Taco Burrito King (TBK) is on Belmont...

Hi Jess, Welcome to the neighborhood, I've lived here 40+ years. Living at Belmont and Laramie, you have Bristol right on the corner. It's a Polish deli/liquor store. You can pick up most of your daily needs there, kind of a mini A&G's. Taco Burrito King (TBK) is on Belmont & Long, a short walk west of Laramie. A cute, hidden gem is Mamma Mia on Belmont & Central, directly across from the parking garage on Central. All homemade Italian food and pizza. Service can be slow, but the place is so cute, you don't mind waiting. I think it's BYOB, call to be sure. There's a Dunkin' Donuts on Belmont near Cicero and one on Central and Barry. Also a Subway right on Belmont and Laramie. Any more questions, ask away. EB is a great place to get answers and suggestions.

  • Welcome! !!!
I have lived in the area for quite some time. Very nice area but always be on guard for the bad Chicago element. Nice places to eat and shop are all around. A good ethnic mix!!

Crime and grafitti in our neighborhood

I heard that Indian Boundary and some other neighborhoods petitioned for tax breaks on their homes due to declining property values (O'Hare Airport noise) and won their appeals. Maybe we should appeal our property taxes also on the same basis due to the graffiti that is all over our neighborhoods and crime too. There are homes in our area that are just not selling and this is most likely the reason. I also notice that Alderman Arena and Alderman Cullerton are active in their everyblock posts. Guess that our guys, Suarez and Reboyas are too busy.

Sounds like great idea. Our taxes just went up!!!
