Two Charged With Murder In 2013 Slaying

Griffin, of the 7500 block of South Langley Avenue, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where died, according to the medical examiner’s office. His death was ruled a homicide.

Leroy Griffin, 18, was shot in the head around 7 p.m. on Dec. 21, 2013, in the 7900 block of South Lafayette Avenue, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Lamont Jackson, 24, of the 6000 block of South Lafayette; and 25-year-old Louis Smith of the 6700 block of South Lafayette were each charged this week with first-degree murder, murder while committing another forcible felony, and mob action, police said.

Rescue Missionary Christian School officials felt the Shedd building was a perfect place to move permanently after renting its current space at 7956 S. King Dr. for 27 years.

Roseland Heights residents hoping to see Rescue Missionary Christian School, currently in Chatham, were disappointed to learn Wednesday that CPS decided to reopen the bidding for the vacant building that was once home to John G. Shedd Elementary School at 200 E. 99th St.

After John G. Shedd Elementary School closed years ago, Frank I. Bennett Elementary School, at 10115 S. Prairie Ave., had been using the building as a satellite branch until June 2013, when CPS closed 50 schools district-wide, officials said.
