Help needed with costumes and stage sets

The kids at the Valentine Boys & Girls Club are putting on a play, Alice In Wonderland, in early June. I'm looking for seven dress or longer length zippers for their costumes, artificial greenery and flowers and, if there is an angel out there, an teen-size Cheshire Cat costume (or something that comes close). Help with the sewing and designing/constructing costumes would also be very appreciated. Working with the kids is fun. If you can help, please either drop off the zippers, greenery and/or costume at the Club (3400 S. Emerald) between 11am and 6pm and/or leave a message here. Thank you.

Where can I sell junk metal near McKinley Park?

Does anyone know where I can sell scrap household metal? I thought I could take the scrap metal to Acme Refining at 34th and Iron Street. However, they do not take metal from the public.

Over the years, I have put metal in the alley and the junkers take it away and they sell it for money.

Last year, I was cleaning my garage and I saw several of these junker guys get really excited about the small quantity of metal I was putting in the alley. It made me think that it might be worth my time to save the scrap metal and sell it myself.

I have now accumulated a few boxes of metal that I would like to sell.

Does anyone know of a place within a few miles of McKinley Park that buys scrap metal from the public?. Thanks!

There used to be a scrap yard on Canalport at 18th Street in Pilsen... I don't recall offhand the name of it, but I'm pretty sure it's still there. I know I've taken metal there for the place I used to work at back in th 90s, but it was open to the general public.

Today, I decided to go to Cozzi's at 40th and Ashland. They were very nice, helpful and fair. They separated the iron, aluminum, brass and copper for me.

I saved metal around the house for six months. There were 28 pounds of metal and I got a total of $4.68.

This was a good experience, and I now know that it not worth my time to save up the metal, unless the piece is very heavy.

I plan to go back to leaving the metal in the alley for the junkers.

I hope you have a great day.

Unexpected Parade!

At about 10:30 this morning, a big parade came by my house on 48th St., just east of Halsted. There were a ton of middle-school aged kids in baseball uniforms. Was this a kick-off parade for the kids' baseball season? Please share if you know!
