  • Mcdowell Elementary School reviewed by a parent

    McDowell is a wonderful school offering great curriculum and amazing teachers. However, the office staff can get a little irritated at times and express themselves in an unpleasant manner. Office staff, principal included could benefit from sensitivity training.

A crowd gathered around 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 7900 block of South Avalon Avenue in memory of Desean Pittman, a 20-year-old man fatally shot by police in Chatham.

Four other people also face felony charges; Davontae Ruth, 18, of the 7800 block of South Kenwood; Kakendra Lottie, 19, of the 9300 block of South Clyde; Stephanie Primer, 21, of the 8100 block of South Ellis; and Derrick Wince, 26, of the 7400 block of South Chappel, according to court records.

3 charged with South Side cell phone store robberies

Davis, of the 6800 block of South Normal, and Sheppard, of the 8900 block of South Essex, were each charged with seven counts of armed robbery, police said. On Friday a judge ordered Davis held on $500,000 bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office. Sheppard was held on $400,000.

The most recent robbery happened Wednesday night in the 4600 block of South Kedzie, according to Chicago Police.

The three were later identified as the suspects behind the Aug. 5 robbery of another cell phone store in the 5900 block of South Kedzie, police said. They had entered the store with a handgun about 5:50 p.m. and left with money from the register.

Davis, of the 6800 block of South Normal, and Sheppard, of the 8900 block of South Essex, were each charged with seven counts of armed robbery, police said. On Friday a judge ordered Davis held on $500,000 bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff's office. Sheppard was held on $400,000.

Carter, of the 6200 block of South Rhodes, was charged with nine counts of armed robbery with a firearm, police said. Her bond information was not immediately available.
