Boykin proposes gas tax hike to pay for jobs program

Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart endorsed the plan, which was announced Monday at a news conference at the offices of the Chicago Urban League, 4510 S. Michigan.

Boykin proposes gas tax hike to pay for jobs program
Cook County Commissioner Richard Boykin on Monday proposed hiking the gasoline sales tax to pay for a program to create jobs for teens and young adults in troubled parts of the county with the aim of reducing street violence.

The gas tax already _is_ a sin tax. We all need to burn as little fossil fuel as possible. If it takes a tax to encourage us to do the right thing, then so be it. We should most definitely take advantage of the low oil prices to increase gas taxes.

  • billywood 5500s ashland hope&peace

Bring business to bligted areas of the city by making them tax free no income-tax no sales tax and no property tax. It's not like they are generating anything but liability for tax payers already. Duty free zones would put wind in the economic sails of Chicago's sinking neighborhoods.
