Man dead, 7 others wounded in city shootings

Earlier on the South Side, a boy was shot in the 4400 block of South Drexel Avenue. He had been wounded about 6:15 p.m. and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. His condition has been stabilized, police said. He had suffered the wound inside an apartment building.

About 6:40 p.m., a man was shot in the body and another man was shot in the leg in the 5100 block of South Racine Avenue, according to police. Police said shooters stepped out of a vehicle, opened fire and then fled.

The man shot in the leg was found in the 5000 block of South Elizabeth Street. He was taken to Saint Bernard Hospital and Healthcare Center and was stable.

Another man was shot near 51st Street, in the 5100 block of South Calumet Avenue, about 8:35 p.m. He was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Additional information about that shooting wasn't immediately available.

On the West Side, two others were shot about 7:15 p.m. in the 3300 block of West Warren Boulevard, police said. A 30-year-old man was shot in the hip and back and was stable at Stroger Hospital. The other victim, 37, was shot in the hand and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition.

It doesn't appear that either of the two people shot were the intended targets, police said. The shooting happened at 3 p.m. in the 3900 block of West Washington Boulevard in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, police said.

    In 2006 Alderman Hairston stated that she was on top of the renovation of Promontory Point. 9 years later we are still waiting and because of erosion significant parts of the Point are closed off to the public. The Alderman is failing those who utilize this park daily.
