Help needed with costumes and stage sets

The kids at the Valentine Boys & Girls Club are putting on a play, Alice In Wonderland, in early June. I'm looking for seven dress or longer length zippers for their costumes, artificial greenery and flowers and, if there is an angel out there, an teen-size Cheshire Cat costume (or something that comes close). Help with the sewing and designing/constructing costumes would also be very appreciated. Working with the kids is fun. If you can help, please either drop off the zippers, greenery and/or costume at the Club (3400 S. Emerald) between 11am and 6pm and/or leave a message here. Thank you.

Anti-Capitalist Militant March coming through Bridgeport today

http://natoprotest.org/article/ftpanti-capitalist-militant-march/

Start Time:May 15, 2012, 6:30 p.m.
End Time:May 15, 2012, 11:59 p.m.
Location: 51st and Halsted, chicago, il

It looks like their route is going straight up Halsted to 31st. I assume that they will march further (to the orange line, perhaps) or gather in the park.

I assume that this is a peaceful group. I just want neighbors to be aware that there might be traffic issues.

It was like marching barking dogs thru a kennel. Our local idiots used it as an excuse to set off fireworks and yell out curses. I'm not aligned with the message of f*** the police but surely am moved profoundly by a society that provides a police escort to those who wish to public proclaim their message however unproductive, and respect the Bridgeport history as home to protests that influenced American history and economic growth.

They gained access to our backyards and tried breaking in through our aluminum doors. They weren't successful, but they damaged our doors, frames and locks pretty badly. I was born at the University of Chicago when my parents lived at 32nd and Normal and I presently reside at 30th and Normal now ... I've been around the block a lfew times and I'm pretty proud and protective of our community ... gotta keep our eyes open ALL THE TIME and be caring and watching out for our neighbors and get them active in watching out for and caring for us. ... thats how it works ... always has. I say that because I thanked a guy this morning who saw an attempted garage breakin this morning. I caught a dirtbag doing the same thing once. The whole World is changing around us so why should we expect Bridgeport to remain the same forever.
I saw a lot of new faces at the Bridgeport Days Parade ... it was easy to see ... I was the old guy in the wheelchair in the parade ... and we went right past Grandmas house and I saw my old grammar school ... and where I played 50 years ago.
More NEW faces than OLD faces ... everything changes ... nothing remains EXACTLY the same ... so embrace new faces and clothes and art and food.
For those people that have been stuck in the hood forever I can see how it may be difficult but as a Veteran who has been around and seen the other side believe me ... we have it pretty good.
Now I don't want gangs, violence, graffiti and drugs ... but it comes as no surprise to me that I see a lot of changes in my 'old' neighborhood ... enjoy the good ... try to do something about the bad ... don't just complain about everything or hide behind a name like ESC .... Be part of the solution but don't keep adding to the problem.
If you had a great childhood like I did ... cherish it ... you can share it ... but don't knock it when you see a new style, new, haircolor, new vest ... remember .....there were people that thought you were pretty weird at one time. Thats my story and I'm sticking to it.

I live on Halsted at 28th and some residents have already seen several scores walking south in groups. The police were on the scene keeping tabs. Let's hope it is very peaceful so our officers don't suffer any injuries from these agitators.

Parade: Morgan St. (from 35th to 31st), Block Party: Benton House (3052 S. Gratten St.)

Bicycle-powered floats. Mobile sculptures. Origami architecture, marching bands, hot dogs, and dance performances. Everything is welcome but flame-throwers and ketchup.

Lion VS Gorilla (LVG), a curatorial collaboration that uses experiential art to build community, is partnering with Version12 to create the First Annual Bridgeport Day, on May 12, 2012! Bridgeport Day is a celebration of the diverse communities that make up the neighborhood, and will be a fun, relaxed day where neighbors can meet, talk, mingle, and celebrate the community.

Join us for the Bridgeport Day Community Parade, as it winds down Morgan Street from the Zhou B Arts Center (35th St.) to Benton House (31st St.), from 2:00 to 3:00. At 3:00, the Bridgeport Day Block Party begins, at Benton House. There will be everything from a kimchee deathmatch battle (aka kimchee cook-off) to 12 pop-up operas with artisanal ice cream pairings to Bridgeport history storytelling to musical performances to a three-legged race, because running is better when someone else is tied to your leg. There will even be a petting zoo! For more information, check out Bridgeport Day online at www.bridgeportday.com (website brought to you by the fine folks at The Bridgeporter.)

Questions? Want to be involved? Email us at lionvsgorilla@gmail.com. To find out more about this year's Version Fest, check out http://www.versionfest.org/.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Oh, and there will be a pop up dog park for your 4 legged friends as well!
