Sandy - I'm (obviously) not running the show, but in the "old days" (when the market was previously in the Armory parking lot), they disallowed all "public" parking -except- for people involved with the market, to make room for staff and vendors. They posted a sign late in the week and even towed remaining cars very early Saturday morning. Yes, it was inconsiderate for the Chamber to not notify the entertainment, but they're probably running around like headless chickens without Paula. Call them to make sure you're on the list to not be towed.

Thanks. Ally will look into the situation on Monday and get back to me. Perhaps there will be some sort of vendor permit I can display on my car--if not, it’s gonna be a problem. In my younger days, I could easily busk standing outdoors in the sun with just my guitar for a couple of hours, sans amplification. Back then, though, I had no CDs to sell and keep track of. But at 64, I need a little help being heard outdoors over all the noise (and the L so close); and I have to pay closer attention to sun protection (not a problem at festivals, since stages are shaded). I also play a lot more mt. dulcimer now, which requires I either have a stand on which to lay it flat or a chair so I can play it on my lap. It was perfect having the market around the corner from me (w. of B’way, effectively a block further from the L) with Patio’s lot for parking, a tree for shade, and an AC outlet three feet away. I could also safely lock my purse in my car, out of sight.

CTA expands scope, cost of Brown Line flyover project

A hearing for the public to comment on the bypass environmental assessment will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. June 3 at the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted St., Chicago.

The CTA also announced Tuesday that it is exploring moving the historic Vautravers building, at 947-949 W. Newport Ave., some 29 feet to the west to be out of the way of the proposed track location.

  • Not at all -- I use my real name and photo here, I'm easily found via Google or any other search engine, I live about three blocks from the flyover, and the only connection I have with this project is waiting on it when I ride the red line to work and back every day.

With a planned height of 40-45 feet, even 30" is a 6% reduction in height -- and a lower track will increase ground-level noise.

  • "Brown would descend 1/2 level down heading north from Belmont Station - turning north west - as it already does. 'Hump' the Red to accommodate the Brown's level change. So the Red would 'hump' 1/2 level up from north of Belmont station to Belmont Station."

"Brown would descend 1/2 level down heading north from Belmont Station - turning north west - as it already does. 'Hump' the Red to accommodate the Brown's level change. So the Red would 'hump' 1/2 level up from north of Belmont station to Belmont Station."

An extra track is needed in order to allow Purple Line service to continue north. So even in a "fly-under" scenario additional track needs to be added to branch off before looping under or over the existing Main Line. It'll also need a decent length in order to keep the slope reasonable and the "hump" would need to be extended in order to avoid having too sharp of a turn.

This also sounds like it's going to change clearances for traffic along Clark.

  • I Had To Say It Reality does not equal negativity.

What next are they gonna try to prop that building up at the corner of Belmont/Halsted? A broomstick or that Frank Elliot guy?

Maybe Sidetrack could buy it and open a real gay bar there.

Airbnb connects Boystown residents and visitors

The couple only began offering lodging for rent this spring, listing a guest bedroom in their apartment, which overlooks Dive Bar, at 3445 N. Halsted St. in Boystown. Troy said they also offer a space on their couch, as a more budget-friendly option.

There are a handful of available hotels in Boystown, with the Best Western Hawthorne Terrace, at 3434 N. Broadway St., most central to the Boystown district.

Three of the Broughton boutique hotels — City Suites, the Majestic, and the Willows — are all in the Lincoln Park/Lakeview area, with the Majestic, at 528 W. Brompton Ave., the closest to the epicenter of Boystown.

A proposal for a Boystown version of The Out Hotel, an LGBT-focused hotel with a location in New York City, was announced in 2013, and planned for 3343 N. Halsted St. But the proposal met with significant neighborhood opposition, and was ultimately given a thumbs-down by 44th Ward Ald. Tom Tunney.

Several other hotels are available near Diversey and Clark, but few others are available north of the area.

505 Belmont is offered on this Airbnb thing too. Poor visitors looking for a bargain......
