Where to Find Chic Fashion Picks for Festival Season

Take in the sun without getting burned. A sleek fedora is the perfect finishing accessory. Stop into either of the Goorin Bros. Hat Shop locations (3243 N. Broadway and 1533 N. Milwaukee). Depending on your look, you can decide on a classic baseball cap or wide-brim straw headpiece.

This article has 6 other Chicago locations (Show)

We always have a lot of goods to carry during a music festival… sunscreen, extra water, trail mix. You name it. Get a durable carry-all like a roll top bag from Mildblend Supply Co. (1342 N. Milwaukee). Also, keep this place in mind if you're looking for a sleek pair of jeans.

The epitome of hippie chic: Free People. Take in the atmosphere at the Wicker Park shop (1464 N. Milwaukee). Even if you don’t snag something (and I can’t see why you wouldn’t), you can always get ideas on what you already own.

Another shop perfect for taking in the atmosphere. Hubba Hubba (2040 W. Roscoe) focuses on casual clothing with a cool vibe, as well as plenty of bohemian-inspired heavy metal (we’re talking about jewelry here). And I’d say it helps that the clothing is super affordable.

Shield your eyes from that blazing sun with a pair of cool sunnies. Yeah, you could put on a pair of Ray-Bans but how about something with a little more edge? Oliver People (941 Rush Street) has the largest selection of face-framing mirrored aviators and stylish 1960s tortoise frames.

Need something with a bit more of a vintage flair? Squasht by Les (2556 W. Chicago) focuses on fitted caps in fun prints and bright colors.

and were the drunks and miscreants already prevalent in the area that you chose to move in to? Me thinks so.

Personally I think they need to extend the route again but further north and end it north of Andresonville at Devon/Ashland.

  • It's interesting that a parade that has made Lakeview its home for 45 years is asked to move because residents who moved there don't want to deal with something that was part of the neighborhood before they decided to move there. If they didn't want to live in a neighborhood with an annual parade, then they shouldn't move to a neighborhood that has one...it's crazy to say now that the parade doesn't belong there.

  • Lazy? Or purposefully deceptive? Seems the amount of shootings, robberies, beatings, gang activity and carjackings in Lakeview haven't been getting much attention from television or big print media. What's up with that?

GLBT people, and their friends and families, are everywhere of course, but the heart of Chicago's (Illinois/Midwest U.S.) gay community is still in the Lakeview/Uptown area. The various LGBT community events, like Pride Fest, the Pride Parade, and North Halsted Market Days, are also located in the area for the financial benefit of the many LGBT-friendly businesses in the area, especially the many bars and clubs.
These business, and the rainbow pylons streetscaping/Legacy Walk outdoor museum/Center on Halsted are the obvious signs that this is the out and proud center of Chicago's LGBT community.

More heterosexual-families (many with young children) have moved into our neighborhood as residents over the years through gentrification. But these newer families must be tolerant of the diversity that is Lakeview/Uptown and should be able to stand some noise, mess, party behavior, closed streets, etc. a few days a year during the summer. Illegal behavior should not be tolerated. LGBTs are forming legal families of their own, some with children of their own, and are a vital part of any community that they choose to live in. I moved here from the suburbs in 1989 and chose the Lakeview area because it is LGBT-friendly and the center of our community. Many LGBT people still come here or move here for that same reason.

If the LGBT parade is moved to downtown Chicago, then Chicago should have only one St. Patrick's Day Parade, also in downtown. Having that second St. Patrick's Day Parade on the Southside where many Irish-Chicagoans live or like to hang out makes sense only if the LGBT parade stays in the Lakeview/Uptown area. where LGBT people live and like to hang out. Keeping the Pride Parade in the Lakeview/Uptown area still makes more sense to me.

Using the "too-large a parade" logic, then why hasn't the City proposed moving the large August Bud Billikin Day Parade from its current Southside location to downtown Chicago. Using the "too-large a parade" logic, then why hasn't the City proposed moving the large August Bud Billikin Day Parade from its current Southside location to downtown Chicago. I know why:African-American Chicagoan's would be in an uproar if that idea was ever proposed or considered by their Alderman. Why should LGBT people not feel the same for any proposal or consideration to move our parade? Who should control and decided where our parade is? If not leaders in the LGBT community, then who and why?
The large number of LGBT parade spectators can be handled by moving the start of the parade north, if necessary. I would think that Uptown businesses would welcome all those extra customers, at least for the last Sunday every June.

  • d3 NOH

And if you look at the crime that happens at that parade, pride parade is a picnic comparatively. They have violent mob fights at that event every year.
