" if the governments had a little more respect for the tax money they are spending."

There isn't a great deal of incentive to conserve and find value when you are spending other people's money. Especially for Chicago and Illinois politicians (virtually all of them) who face no risk of not getting re-elected every time.

How true! Ultimately we only have ourselves to blame for reelecting these bozos over and over again.

Though I do think our election process is broken and could use a huge overhaul.

  • I think folks (and landlords) on the north side have been lulled to sleep for a long time and don't think that their apartments can be robbed. People need to invest in security systems, loud security alarms.

My brother took his last breath in one of the apartments above Hydrate. It was very painful for him to live in that space for what he knew would be the last place he would live. The loud bass of the music went through his brain and body like fists. At the time the bar was Christopher Street. My brother was part of the leather community. Christopher Street was not a leather bar then. He spent his last week of life in that apartment. My brother had AIDS and had been released from St Joseph's hospital to live out the remaining time of his life. He vowed that it would be a leather bar after he passed on. Not too long after John passed Christopher Street was gone. And the replacement was a leather bar.

Success to you in your endeavors.

I used to live in a place in Boystown that was ridiculously loud and the music was crazy. I moved. My HiV had not progressed to become AIDS, but I knew what was a toxic environment and I got out of there. Your explanation of your brothers last days seems a little vague, but I hope he went in peace and I hope he would be happy to know that the bar that is now home to Hydrate was the leather bar named Manhole for many years. Peace be with him.
