In all 10 incidents, burglars forced their way into the victim's garage before taking property, according to a community alert from police. The burglaries in Avalon Park happened: between 10:24 a.m.

Sears to close historic Ravenswood store

The Ravenswood store was one of three that debuted shortly after. The other two early locations—a store at 79th and Kenwood in the Grand Crossing neighborhood, and another at 62nd and Western in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood—closed in 2013. Both remain empty.

The Sears at 1900 W. Lawrence Ave., which opened in 1925, will begin a liquidation sale May 19 and will shutter for good in early August, the company said.

According to Sears' archives, the first Sears retail store opened in Chicago in 1925 at Homan Avenue and Arthington Street on the West Side.
