You are absolutely correct, no place is safe these days, there is no place to run!
If people just remember crime has no color and also keep in mind that all crime is not publicized.

Yes, there is a change to the Ashburn community. Although, section 8 is a small part of the issue- some section 8 families in this neighborhood work and are responsible with the up keep of the property and do not cause issues. We need to also look at the homeowner who is renting to section 8 families or renting to whomever. The homeowner is renting to make money and possibly does not care who they rent to. Additionally there needs to be a vetting process before we consider to rent on the block. I would like to understand how other prominent neighborhoods in our area decides who, and how they curve the number of section 8 families in their neighborhoods and follow that practice. We also need to keep in mind not all renters are on section 8.

So, Saturday morning 1/7/16 at around 1:30 am Im coming home. On my way I'm traveling east on 83rd and right around Whipple I notice a green Chevy Expess van going through a alley traveling east on Whipple as well. I though nothing of it, but saw it again as I turned left on Francisco heading north at 82nd and I'm sure whoever it was saw me.

Anyways i get to my house and try to open my door with my key, but the lock is frozen. I go to my back dooor and same thing, so as I'm going back through my gangway head towards the front I see the same van again headed north up my block, but I doubt they saw me.

It could of been nothing, but I sure as hell was able to unlock the door that time....lol

Thanks for the info. We should all be alert to strange vehicles driving around at that time, between 5:30-8:30 am and 5-7 pm. Most of the car thefts happened at these times. Please don't leave your cars running with keys in to warm up. Be aware of your surroundings also.

  • That's also when they've been doing residential burglaries....early morning.

  • Thanks for the alert...it could mean nothing or it could mean everything!!
