Toddler Programs??

Does anyone know of any activities or programs for toddlers in the Archer Heights or surrounding areas?

Loading loading

  • If you're looking for full-time care, you'll end up at childcare facility.
Some private/Catholic schools have full-time programs for 3-4 year olds.

If you're simply looking to expose your youngster to activities and programs, check out the Chicago Park District towards the end of August. Right now they're getting ready for summer camps.

815 and 821 CAPS Meeting

Wed, May 2, 2012 7:00 PM

Just a reminder to attend your CAPS meeting at St. Bruno's
We cannot do it alone and we need you!

Loading loading

  • Thanks for your reminders I attend the meetings, let's make sure we bring our neighbors with us, I've been telling mine through word of mouth and for those cannot attend, like that I inform them of what went on. "nosey neighbors are the best" espEcially the postal service, theyre very informative.

  • Dakota Lee Resident of Brighton Park

Thanks, please put more reminders of the caps meetings, I am a new home owner and want to keep my neighborhood "safe" for when I start a family.

  • I will keep posting the CAPS reminders and please keep coming to the meetings and as we say at our 813/833 meetings come back and bring a frienda nad neighbor. Thank you

Energy company

I just had someone from an energy company called constellation energy come to my door. Did anyone get a similar visit?
Is anyone getting their service how does it compare to ComEd?
Please share information.
Thanks

  • I would be very cautious. There have been reports of fake companies going around, wanting a tour of the "house", and coming back to rob it. If it seems too good to be true, it ultimately turns out to be that way.

  • Dakota Lee Resident of Brighton Park

I would suggest don't let the person in, its summer time and there are companies that are suggesting alternative energy companies.. I know ( i am seeking a new career and have been offered positions to go door to door, selling alternative energy companies due to the deregulation act in 1997, obviously I declined bcause it is unsafe and many residents like myself are leery of this)

Coyotes Sighted on Archer Heights/West Elsdon Border

Residents who have indoor/outdoor cats, small dogs or rabbits are cautioned as Coyotes feed on small animals. Animal Welfare recommends not leaving any kind of pet food in your yard or on your porch, keeping trash containers closed and cleaning barbecue grills or putting the grills away as coyotes are attracted to the smell of left outside grills.

  • Oh, fabulous! In addition to every stray, hungry dog, cat, rabbit, raccoon, possum and the occasional neighbor's child, I'll get coyote's too! Who needs the zoo!

Seriously, wasn't it great that the city cut funding for Animal Care and Control?

  • Matt G. New resident to Garfield Ridge as of Oct 2009.

I just saw one last night crossing the 1st Avenue on ramp to I-55 North.

Illegal Concert at Club Karlov on 4/27 - What About Safety?

I noticed that the event listing on EveryBlock for Noches de Revention is scheduled to take place at Club Karlov and the event lists as running Friday, April 27, 2012 at 7:00 PM - Saturday, April 28, 2012 at 3:00 AM (CT). Tickets are being sold, presale at 20.00 and VIP at 300.00. From this information it appears that this event is a concert.

When I checked the business license information for Club Karlov I found only that of Tavern, for 1st Front at 4058 W. 47th Street. Surely this means that the business is not allowed to have concerts on the premises. Does anyone know what agency might be contacted to investigate, and shut down this operation? My concern is the impact to the fire station next door to the business and the very real possibility that services out of it will be severely impacted; affecting safety.

Is anyone else concerned about this and can anyone offer help on what can be done to stop this?

Thirsty Thursdays appears to be the social media equivalent of RedEye Chicago, Chicago Magazine, and Time Out Chicago and covers bars and events throughout the entire city. Appears you can subscribe to their site and enter comments about any bar. At the site did not see any connection to the Ruben guy. Went to the Facebook site you listed and did not see pictures of any dancing on the bar at Club Karlov. Maybe those have been pulled.

Relayed your comments to the AHCA and response was up until the proposed rave event that was stopped, there has not been any complaints about Club Karlov from any of the people living in that area. The city shutdown of the hall remains in place and if anyone living near there sees an event going on in the hall, they should call 911 since the CPD 8 th District is aware of the shutdown and has to act on any complaints received.

AHCA also has their meeting tomorrow at the UNO school and if you have specific information about that bar you should bring it up at the meeting or privately to their senior officers (President or Exec. Dir) or call their office 773-843-2232.

Yes, the photos were pulled and the page has been cleaned up. My only consolation is that another reader (AH Citizen) confirmed seeing the photos of female dancers on the bar and thought that what was shown didn’t look very good.

The Southwest Chicago Post (http://www.swchicagopost.com/2012/04/city-inspectors-shut-down-club-karlov.html) article about Club Karlov cites, "Ruben Pantoja, who bills himself professionally as Ruben Prestige. Pantoja books disc jockeys, exotic dancers from the GOGO Dancer5 group . . . Prestige Chicago also stages "Thirsty Thursday" events weekly at Club Karlov, which typically run until 2:00 a.m.” The article also includes a photo of one of Prestige’s advertisements for Thirsty Thursdays at Club Karlov. If he’s running events in the bar shouldn’t a public amusement license be required?

With recent events at this business – attempting to stage a rave illegally, the business closure notice disappearing and then reappearing – I just don’t see any positive contribution to the AH community.

Thanks for the AHCA references, your help and contributing to this discussion, it’s good that neighbors can discuss these things.
