Moving to Arcadia Terrace

We will be moving to Arcadia Terrace in August and would love to hear the best things about our new neighborhood. What are your favorite spots? Are there any local hangouts or your favorite businesses that we shouldn't miss?

Welcome to the neighborhood! If you like sushi or Japanese cuisine, there is a little place called Tampopo on Lincoln Avenue, just north of Washtenaw. It doesn't look like much from the outside (in fact, you may pass it by if you didn't know it was there), but it is reasonably priced and pretty good. There is also a place on Peterson called Fondue Stube- I have yet to go there (and I have lived in Arcadia Terrace for 6 years now), but I always want to check it out and it seems to get good reviews. If you have pets, there is also a nice little independent pet food/supply store just south of Lincoln and Catalpa called Active Pet. If you like local bars, there is the Emerald Isle on the corner of Peterson Avenue and Maplewood. It is a nice little place, they serve typical bar food, and have some pool tables. Just a local little hangout. I would advise just walking around the neighborhood and just pop into whatever place interests you, the neighborhood is really friendly and quiet, and I have really enjoyed living in this area for the past six years.

Hi Dawn. I've lived on Thorndale near Peterson and Western for 5 years and love it. As Melanie said, it's very quiet. I walk my dog at all hours and feel safe. I lived on Farwell near Western for about 8 years prior. It was a lot more congested and much noisier. There is a lot of parking on Thorndale. I don't know what street you'll be living on, but Thorndale and Artesian has great parking. I've heard the restaurant on the corner of Peterson and Artesian is excellent for South American food. It's called Sabor A Cafe Columbian Steakhouse. I walk by there a lot with my dog and have talked to people going in and out and they say it's excellent. Green Briar Park is on Peterson and Talman. There are a few restaurants on Lincoln just west of California. I love the neighborhood. Hope you will too!

  • Jimmy's new pizza joint at Foster and Lincoln is a revelation. The White Pizza is very special, esp. in Chicago.

  • St. Hilary School reviewed by a parent

This is our first year at St Hilary and am so excited to see my kids blossom. I tranferred my 6th and 1st graders from a private non-catholic school and am so happy I made this decision. The accelerated math and reading programs have strengthened my kids skills. My first grader is reading so well since starting here at St Hilary. My 6th grader is building confidence and has gotten the extra help in core subjects that he was not given at his last school. The faculty is great and give each student one on one and the children at this school are polite and have not seen any bullying whatsoever. Love the Principal Mr Neis who makes himself available to parents. I highly recommend this school!

Peterson Woods home owner

Graffiti at 5800 N Lincoln

I can't be the only person who noticed and called the Alderman's office about this graffiti but when I called they acted like they hadn't heard of it.

Sometime last week or this weekend someone vandalized several buildings around 5800 N Lincoln (at Francisco) and it continues down the alley. It is the back of several businesses. I also noticed that a homeowner's garage door was tagged. This is horrible. The tags were things like "BOTM" and "RLW". There was also a cartoon face. I'm thinking that these might just be kids from the high school and not gang related.... I'm hoping anyway. Anyone else know anything about those tags in particular?

Thanks! SBEN

  • Chris I work fulltime, and am an aspiring photographer

I put a Logitech 750i wireless, HD camera up..and pointed it outside from my bedroom window..I turned off the flashing LED....and simply have it kinda visible...I reviewed some recordings...from late at night..seedy looking characters can see it, if they are looking up at my window...I notice them walking on the opposite side of the alley :-) My building got tagged a few months ago...dunno...at least if these jerks try it again, I will have video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdSrMhZymWc
