What is going on at Botanica Lucero, 4644 N Kedzie Ave?

I live nearby and pass by the shop almost every day. The front of the building seems to be a store that sells religious icons, statues and whatnot. The back of the store leads out to a small patio area, which hosts small parties, like quinceaneras, which have music into the night-time hours.

This week, a work crew put up a metal awning on the back of the store. Lights on the extended patio also went up. Now, tonight, there's music, dancing and drinking going on back there. (Yes, I live that close ... no binoculars needed!)

I was mighty fine with the afternoon parties and music into the night ... but now I'm thinking that it's gone into something more unsanctioned (i.e. illegal) and possibly not such a good addition to our neighborhood.

Anyone know how to check if they have a permit to do this? And whether the addition to the back of the store was permitted by the city?

It's not exactly an after-hours club, but I do worry about the safety of the situation. The back of the lot has a locked gate and if anyone needs to get out (like during the fireworks celebration they had on the 4th), it could be a death trap.

  • Are they licensed to hold parties? A store is a different license than a facility that hosts parties. Call the alderman about that. Noise that is excessive late at night should be reported to 911 while it is happening. Attend you CAPS meeting and let the police know that there is an issue.

Need car check up before trip.

Not sure how to search old messages. Near California and Montrose.

If it's a Honda/Acura, Haas on Montrose west of Pulaski/Elston is the best.

Used CarX on Irving once when my brake line had busted (car towed to their place). I also needed them to fix the "Check Engine" problem, and the cables to my battery.

The brake line job was fine, but the "Check Engine" light came back on after about 15 miles of driving, and my car was still doing the problem caused by the battery cables (wouldn't start due to the battery cable could not be tightened enough and I would have to jiggle the cables to get the car to start). When I opened the hood I saw the work on the cables had not been done (I was charged for it), and the cap to the brake fluid was sitting on top of the engine. I gave CarX a chance to fix it, and they did the repair on the battery cables, but once again, after about 20 miles of driving my "Check Engine" light came back on.

After that I took my car to A to Z Auto Service on Western (4129 N. Western) after I saw a recommendation here on Everyblock. Gil was great, and I took my car back anytime I had any other problem, and he fixed it right the first time and was pretty reasonable with prices. Can't say enough about how great Gil is!

Need Suggestions for Home Work

I need to have some work done in my place. Mainly having 8 large windows replaced and having a door/paneling built/added to a bathroom (the room is oddly shaped).

Does anyone have any good recommendations on local businesses that do good work and are reasonably priced?

Looking for a landscaping company recommendation

Albany Park neighbors - I recently purchased a home in Albany Park and am looking for suggestions for a landscaping company to help with my backyard. Any suggestions?

H iStephanie, We just used Farmers Garden Market on Elston (right by Tony's Grocery Store) to work on our front yard and they did an AMAZING job! We have an old bungalow and had some ugly mostly-dead bushes and trees removed and needed help in redefining the front yard. We worked with Nicole, she came over and looked at the yard to determine what plants, flowers and bushes would work best. Then we picked out what we liked and she and her team came and delievered all the new plants, trees and flowers, edged the yard, planted and even moved some of our other plants around to balance out the design. It's beautiful! I'm still on a high about it because everything was finished yesterday. : ) They were also less expensive than going to a landscaping company because you eliminate the middle man and work directly with the nursery. I honestly can't thank them enough for making our yard look so beautiful!!
