Why: To turn schools “inside out” and reframe the role teachers and students play in our communities

Chicago Teachers: Inside Out is an installation of Chicago teacher, student, and staff portraits, along with statements from each of them about teaching and learning. This project explores the important role that teachers play in our schools and communities.

Our hope is to turn the high school “inside out” and familiarize local residents with the stories and images of Chicago teachers. Portraits are presented at street level to spark shared community dialogue about the positive effects that educators can have both inside and outside of the classroom.

Chicago Teachers: Inside Out is part of a global arts project that calls for street art installations of larger-than-life photo portraits of the human face to present messages of personal identity in the public sphere. Over 10,000 Inside Out projects have been installed around the globe to-date.
