How can I donate and raise money to the legal defense of the rehab center?

  • The level of "not in my backyard"-ism is saddening. I agree with Ryne, what can we do to support this recovery center?

The drawbacks of making an anonomous 911 call. Details: Sun Arrest/Police Activity @1700 bk Roscoe

We walked out of our door on Roscoe St near the Paulina Brown Line around 10am on Sunday, and there were 3 Police SUVs in front of our house with a black male suspect being detained with his hands on the back of the first SUV.

The police were accusing him of "denying everything". We continued walking to our car. As we were loading up our vehicle, we noticed an officer knocking on our neighbors door, then ours. My husband returned to our house to see what the officer needed. The officer informed him that they had received several anonomous calls regarding a man fitting the suspects description publicly masturbating around the neighborhood.

The officer then asked if my husband would be willing to press charges. As he hadn't witnessed anything, my husband declined. The officer was visibly annoyed and kept pressing, saying they couldn't charge him otherwise. My husband declined again, restating that he hadn't seen anything.

I'm not sure what happened after that as we went on our way, but for whatever it's worth, I wanted to post here stating that if possible, please do identify yourself when making a complaint to the police. If that man was the right suspect, he should be charged. If he wasn't, he shouldn't be falsely accused. Having the actual witness(es) come forward and identify him, would help to ensure the right thing is done here.

I call 311 frequently to report street lights that are off. They routinely ask me if I would like to leave my name. I thought it was strange, as who calls in the issue is not relevant. But now see it is probably just 311 & 911 "policy" and not left to the staff member to decide relevance.

311 has nothing to do with 911. 911 has your name, number, address. I've seen it first hand, in the room you're calling, on the screen they're viewing. I've also seen printouts as the dispatchers see. 311 asks you because it's them entering it into a ticketing system fairly manually...

I've also seen printouts as the dispatchers see. 311 asks you because it's them entering it into a ticketing system fairly manually when you call (it's literally the same system you could enter it into if you went to the city's web site--I think soon to be replaced).

Though, having said that, if you're calling 311 and they transfer you to 911, it's possible some of the info doesn't transmit vs if you had called 911 yourself, direct. It seems a bit unlikely these days, but wouldn't surprise me too much either. could find out though. I never call one to be transferred, "up here" we already have to call Evanston and they transfer us.
