Agreed, Becky. I live two doors down from this lot and this definitely means I'm not having any car driving friends over any time soon after this goes into effect. Total bummer. I wonder what happened to cause this change.

Yelling Man

Overall, my husband and I really love our neighborhood!
Unfortunately, we are concerned about a man who spends his free time screaming at people from his 3rd floor window in the evenings while we walk out dog. He has his window propped open about three nights a week and when an unsuspecting person walks by he pops his head out at them and screams, "excuse me!" or "hey you!" then pops his head back in. It's a minor issue in the grand scheme of life but it's really irritating! Is there anything that can be done to stop him?

  • So nice to read so many compassionate responses. Really nice.

  • There's a partially/totally deaf man who either lives on my block, or frequently walks through the area. Each summer, without fail, he somehow finds boxed pairs of high heels to sell. When he sees me, he comes running down the block at me, mumbles and points excitedly at my feet,...

There's a partially/totally deaf man who either lives on my block, or frequently walks through the area. Each summer, without fail, he somehow finds boxed pairs of high heels to sell. When he sees me, he comes running down the block at me, mumbles and points excitedly at my feet, stands a bit too close to me, and rattles his shoe boxes. The first few times it happened, it was ***completely*** unnerving. Now I take the time to "review" the shoes, placing them against my foot as it I were interested in purchasing them, and shake my head. He then grins and goes on his way.

My shoe salesman doesn't mean any harm, and I'm doubting your window screamer does, either. There's a handful of other mentally unstable/physically disheveled people within my immediate living area. While I'm not inviting them out for Sunday brunch anytime soon...I can tell they don't mean any harm, either, and would likely benefit from someone taking a small bit of their day to acknowledge them as people. :)

Who cleans up crime scenes on Chicago streets?

On the night of April 10, he was on the 1600 block of W. Morse Ave. and came across blood left from a shooting earlier that evening. He was surprised to see it the next morning, as he walked to work.

The message referenced William Lewis, a 28-year-old photographer who had just moved to Chicago. Just one day earlier, Lewis had been killed by stray gang gunfire on the 1300 block of W. Devon Ave.

Peter Normand, a 36-year-old architect and resident of the 1900 block of W. Morse, was moved enough to ask Curious City:
