You can't discriminate against section 8 renters as a homeowner - absentee or otherwise. If they meet all of your qualifications such as good credit and background checks you have to rent to anyone. I think in the past you'd have to qualify the rental space for section 8 but not anymore. Anyone with a voucher can rent anywhere. I think the bangers send in moles to rent for them. I usually tell a prospective renter that all the neighbors call the police if they see anything illegal like drug use or gangbangers. So far, it's worked.

First Chicago made it a law that landlords could not discriminate against prospective renters because of their source of income (i.e., Section 8 voucher). Then, when Preckwinkle became Cook County Board President, that law was extended to all landlords in this County.

But if you invest in property in other parts of this state, as a landlord you CAN refuse to rent to people with Section 8 vouchers. Now I don't know if the Chicago Housing Authority can issue the vouchers for outside this county, or if there are other agencies in other counties.

It would be informative to learn exactly where the CHA is misspending taxpayer money. I wonder if a Freedom of Information Act request could force them to reveal not names but addresses where they are subsidizing tenants and their landlords. Because every subsidy benefits 2 sides -- the user of the benefit and the provider of the benefit.

Cook County Commissioner wants to charge gang bangers as domestic terrorists

Tiffany Dameron was preparing to celebrate her son's 8th grade graduation next month, but Sunday night Raheem Dameron was killed and another boy wounded in a drive-by shooting near 45th and Cottage Grove.

  • If the county and state of il is broke ,then I think they could save a lot of money by making the family of the perpetrator pay for their jail stay instead of the tax payers.if they can't pay then let them rot. (Killers, rapist, child molesters ,etc).

  • Let me get this straight, you know what is being done, you understand that their are people out to make sure you fail and become nothing yet you continue to go for the bait. Either your just plain stupid or your just lazy and rather run the streets and sell drugs. Apologists are just as guilty and just as stupid.

On memorial day this year, a dog fighting ring was discovered in downtown Chicago.

As the dust settles, those who love dogs, and, I imagine, the surviving dogs curse and moan. These dogs blame those dogs. He blames the ASPCA & the Canine Police. She blames the neighbors and the dog treats. They even blame Sarah McLachlan.
    They complain and complain.

Those who don't love dogs say Poof! Look. I have a cat. My cats don't fight. There's no problem here. Who cares. I never saw a Cat Fighting Ring in my life! I sure heard some hissing though. There's too much fuss about these dangerous dogs.
    They complain and complain.

They complain about each other. Some take sides and blame Chihuahuas. Some blame Great Danes. Some dogs just show up and bark.
    They complain and complain.

As two eagles fly over, one says to the other, "Why are those dogs starting a fight over dogs fighting?"
