Another shooting in Bronzeville?

About 15 minutes ago, the wife and I are sitting in the living room and hear about 8-9 rapid shots. First responders came about 5 minutes later. I think it was toward 35th street, but can't tell. Anyone have info on this?

We are in the 35th/Indiana area.

The problem with a term like the "Ferguson Effect" is polarizing and a bit misleading. Protest & destruction of property as a result of systemic racial inequality is very different than the random antisocial violence perpetrated by those who do not value black lives. It's cute to coin hashtags for Twitter and social media but these terms often give off more heat than light. In both instances, one can observe destructive, anti-social behavior. The motives of both however are distinct. The person who walks up to another human being and shoots them in the face is it doing so in protest to racial inequality. Rather, it must come from a deeper dysfunction of self hate and the inability to value the lives of people that look like them. Let us not allow ourselves to become intellectually lazy by using these reflexive phrases. Doing so further confuses people and does a disservice to a deeper understanding of these complex social phenomenon.

  • "isn't doing so in protest"...stupid iPhone;)

Another young African American male resorting to crime, as an alternative to the non~exsistant gainful employment opportunities in Bronzeville, owing directly to foreign owing and controlling most of the businesses in Bronzeville.

A wonderful exception are my two Jewish brother friends, who own and operate Ace hardware store on 35th Street in Bronzeville.

They have owned the store every since the Dreamland Cafe closed decades ago.

Their prices are lower than Walgreens!

They love and support their Bronzeville neighborhood customers, will order any hardware you might need. Open the back room at a moments notice for inquisitive tourist from all over the World, hired their competent African American employees from the community, and still get hassled on a regular basis by the city of Chicago!!!

Certainly, we do not consider Ace Hardware store a foreign merchant.

When ever possible, as the Bronzeville Visitor Information Center does for our hardware needs, please patronize this landmark business that truly embraces and supports the authentic cultural experience of Bronzeville!

We love my two older Jewish brothers, one a curmudgeon like me, the other very compassionate, warm and politically astute.

If you get the opportunity stop by and buy something, and have a authentic cultural experience in Bronzeville!!!

If you have not realized it yet, this Everyblock post is a branding and marketing promotion for Ace Hardware store as an authentic cultural attraction within Bronzeville and the emerging Bronzeville/35th Street Illinois Main Street Project!!! :-)

  • I never feel harassed when I need to go to Ace Hardware on 35th. There's usually no one hanging around, blocking the entrance door or anything like that. The same can't be said for the business further up the street.
