my dad is a great man who cared even about people he didnt know! and now after going into the hospital for what seemed like a simple procedure, he is stuck here in a semi-vegetative state after suffering a cardiac arrest and the nurse failing to move in a promplty mannner!!! wow! The family is devestaded! I am looking for a lawyer and now we have cut off life support! I am torn apart inside out, as well as the family. Please help EB!
I will keep the hospital confidential at this time. My dad is a great provider for his family, owned a business, took in my three nephews who call him dad as well. His soul is remarkably unique and now it might be too late!!

That is horrible. So sorry. I would google search malpractice attorneys and most if not all will provide a phone consultation with immediate feedback. I would do this with 3 different firms at minimum. You may want to check with your insurance company but they likely will only be concerned with their exposure. Good luck.

  • Just use Corboy and Demetrio. They are the best. God bless

  • Victor - I think I have a good attorney for you. This sounds right up his alley. His name is Jeffrey Martin - 847-956-0000. His e-mail is: jemartin9560@att.net. I'm so sorry about your father. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  • So sorry...I have no knowledge of this but I went on Angie's List and there were no reviews.... do call at least 3 and go with what feels right (but also check references...) Such a tragedy....

  • Victor - Jeffrey specializes in helping people whose family members have received poor care at nursing homes or hospitals. I think he would be great. Again his number is 847-956-6000 but I gave you the wrong e-mail. It should be jem@martinlawchicago.com. Good luck!

I'm so sorry Victor. What a horrible situation. You can also try People's Law. I don't know if they practice this kind of law, but they can at least refer you to someone who does. They are located on Division just west of Western. Melinda Powers is the attorney over there that I know and she's awesome. I think she mostly defends people who are wrongly convicted or illegally arrested, stuff like that. She's all about helping people who are powerless to fight for justice and they are bilingual. Tell her Alicia sent you.

  • Victor - correction on the phone number 847-956-0000

Victor, you have my sympathy during this trying time. This lawyer has experience with medical malpractice which sounds like it may be your case.

So sorry Victor. Hope you get justice for this :(

  • I'm sorry to hear about your father. Our family spoke with several Chicago firms that were recommended by a friend who was also an attorney (he actually worked for a firm that represented a Chicago hospital) and we ultimately went with Corboy and Demetrio who handled our family's case very sensitively and successfully.

  • Kathleen Boyle Your dog's best friend! (Taking real estate break)

Hoping you get a miracle and a good lawyer. So very, very sorry, Victor.

  • I would not cut off the life support because.you really don't really know if there could be a change. I would advise you to put it back on while your looking for an attorney and I would take action as soon as possible. This situation has been going on in other hospitals also. Its sad. There are nurses today that do not like taking care of the elderly and should be fired. I hope he gets well enough to be able to sit up in a wheel chair instead of having to stay in bed all day. Keep in touch and let us know if you made any progress.

As a lawyer myself, here is my advice. First, you have plenty of time to think about a lawyer. So first and foremost, be there for your father and for your family. Let go of the anger and allow yourself to honor this wonderful man. Go through the grieving process with your family (and by yourself when you are ready). Then, when you are ready, decide if you want to pursue a lawsuit. There are many good lawyers out there who handle medical malpractice matters. While Corboy & Demetrio and Robert Clifford are probably two of the best and most prominent plaintiff's attorneys, quite frankly they are very choosy about which cases they will take. These firms only take the big big cases. They will likely review the facts and decide if this is something they want to take. Jeff Kroll and Jeffrey Goldberg are also very good lawyers in Chicago. Most likely, if they are unable to take the case, they will give you a recommendation for another attorney. Lawsuits in Cook County wind through the system very slowly. Medical malpractice lawsuits are very difficult cases and when the patient is elderly, complications unfortunately will happen. I am so very sorry for you and your family. I lost both of my parents at a young age (they were 61 and 62). There was no malpratice, it was cancer. I know you are going through a very difficult time.

  • Bonnie..thank you for helping him,,,that is what Everyblock should be about every time. Very well written..

  • Victor, I am so sorry. I have nothing else to add, but I see that others have provided good advice.

Victor, you have my deepest sympathies. Gone way too soon, to be sure. I hope that your father's passing was peaceful, and that he was surrounded by those he loved. I am sure your love brought him joy, and I hope that there is comfort to you and your family, in knowing that his struggles are behind him.

Victor, I am so sorry. I lost my father suddenly a couple of months ago and feel your pain. It is very hard. I wish you eventual peace and comfort in his loving memory. I'm still interested in buying that dog crate from you if you want to sell it to me. Give me a call if that would be helpful.
