Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to let you all know that Grandma Js Local Kitchen on North and Kedzie is now serving dinner! I live just down the street and was super excited because with this cold weather, it's nice to have something within walking distance..

It's BYOB, there's no corking fee, and there's a Foremost Liquors a couple blocks down on North. It's cheap for how much food you get ($10/plate more or less), and right now, they are being featured on Blackboardeats dot com, so if you sign up for that for free, you can get 30% off your bill!!

They are only open for dinner Thurs-Sat from 6p-10p... I'll be going in for some sloppy joe sliders and bacon deviled eggs tonight.. mmm...

  • Thanks for sharing. I've never heard of this place.

  • I've seen that place but never gone. I'll have to check it out! Is their brunch BYOB too? Fun little tidbit of information that I got from my server at Bistro Dre (really good, reasonably priced, also BYO) on Lincoln Ave recently: corking fees are illegal. Interesting, eh? I've been charged corking fees illegally for years!

  • @Kathy I don't want to get off topic but I believe it's illegal to charge a corkage fee if your establishment is BYOB. However you may charge a fee if you have a liquor license.

  • I keep meaning to check this place out.

  • The food at brunch is good. It is a very interesting spot; probably a little too out-there for my wife to want to go back, but I will definitely duck in for lunch on a weekday from time-to-time.

@Kathy - If I recall correctly, they are BYO for brunch. And another little BYOB law tidbit, I have also read that it is illegal for an employee of a restaurant without a liquor license to handle/pour the bottle that you bring in. It is up to the customer to serve themself. I know that I have had many servers at BYO restaurants pour wine for me, which they apparently should not be doing.

  • I love BYOB factoids almost as much as I love BYOB brunch! I'm in! Thanks for the info, everyone!

I love the timing of this. I was wanting to write a post today this place. I went there today for the first time, and was knocked out...in a good way. A very good way.

The food was delicious. The staff engaging, and fun, and the atmosphere was so comfortable...and the music being played was as good as the food.

I plan on going back....a lot.

I have never heard of this restaurant. Thanks for letting us know the new hours, I am definitely going to have to check this one out.

  • Wow, good to know... only been for brunch once, but thought the food was terrific. Looking forward to checking it out...

  • LOVE this place. I have been for two private events too. If you are planning a small gathering check it out. I must try dinner!!!

  • Wow! I didn't expect so much response! I'm glad to hear others love it as much as I do! I know that dinner on Thursdays are a little quieter than Friday and Saturday, so if you're in the hood and looking for a cute and quiet place to grub, tonight is a good night for it ;)

Also, I think the Owner is looking for burlesque dancers, as she started one of the most famous burlesque troupes in LA while she lived there. She was talking about making Thursday nights a Burlesque and Dinner Show.. It's a small space, but she's creative, so I think that would be cool and different. If anyone knows of any dancers who may want to dabble in burlesque or already do, send them her way. The owner's name is Layla.

    Cheers!

Their brunch sounds fantastic, does it get really packed/long wait? That usually deters me from the brunch scene

  • @jamie, during the week not really, saturdays sometimes avd sundays yes..

  • We went last night for dinner and it was delicious! Great service, great food, quiet atmosphere. Give it a try!

  • This place is the best. The staff rocks and make you literally feel at home. Its nice to go somewhere that tasty and not have to spend your entire paycheck at longman.
