I have been really displeased with the last couple of doctors I have been to in the area, and I'm looking for a good recommendation for an internist. I have pretty good insurance, so I'm not terribly worried about that, I just need someone who is good about long-term relationships with patients because I have some long term care needs. I would prefer a woman, but it's not a requirement. Any recommendations would be appreciated! Thank you!

  • I love this woman... She goes out of her way to help. http://www.vitals.com/doctors/Dr_Danuta_Kowalski.html

  • BerkeleyGirl Winnemac Park

She's very busy, but I adore Julie Brandies at Northwestern in the Loop. Very human and holistic - never simply pulls out the prescription pad...

  • Whole health Chicago. Dr Edleberg....integrative medicine.

  • I go to Dr. Wesley Cook on Damen and Addison. Love him.

If you can get down to Northwestern Memorial, Dr. Courtney Noble at Chicago Lake Shore Medical Associates is AWESOME. http://www.clsma.com/

  • Thanks for so many responses! I will definitely be making some calls and seeing who has openings available. I really appreciate it!

I go to Michigan Avenue internists and see Dr. Allison Reddinger and really like her.

  • Liz, I have a wonderful woman Doctor at the Advocate Halsted/Blackhawk location. Very easy to get too, you can get off the red line at North/Clybourne and then walk a short distance (about 5 mins). Or if you drive, they will validate your parking in their parking garage. One of my friend's told me about her and I've been going ever since. The number is (773) 880-0320 - her name is Dr. Bibbs.
    Address is 1460 N. Halsted.
She is got a great bedside manner and really LISTENS to your concerns.

  • robin in WRP Tired, very tired

Our family doctor is Kate Maxouris. Her office is in the new building at California and Foster; she is on staff at Swedish and St. Joes. 773-878-0825

  • There's a wonderful group of internists at northwestern memorial physicians group at 1333 West Belmont.

  • I second the comment about Dr. Julie Brandies at Northwestern, as well as Dr. Jenny Lee, also with Northwestern - she's at the new Northwestern Memorial Physicians Group office at 1333 W Belmont. She always takes time when you visit and listens to all of my concerns. I never feel rushed or brushed off, and it seems like she is very thorough.

  • I use Dr. Brenda Sikorski and have for years Her office is at Touhy and Lincoln in Lincolnwood. You wait a bit longer than I like in the waiting room but she then takes all the time you need when you are with her.

I go to Dr Atika Khan. She is an amazing doctor. Both my husband and I have long term medical needs and she has been there for us through it all. The one thing I love is that she is in the area. She is located by Montrose and Damen.

  • DJ

I'm not going to say I know her very well because I'm healthy and only go in for a yearly check up, but I use Dr. Oliveira Raskovich in the professional building at the corner of Wilson and Damen. She's friendly and not one of those rushed, get in get out doctors. Also, the office is efficient, I've never had to wait for an appointment.

  • I've been going to Dr. Patricia Walsh for years. She's wonderful. She also spends all of the time each patient might need, so sometimes a little wait, but worth it for such attention. She's affiliated with Rush and Illinois Masonic. Her offices are at Sheffield, just north of DIversey. http://doctors.rush.edu/directory/profile.asp?setsize=10&pict_id=0001760

  • Dr. Gina Ciaccia Total Care physicians on the corner of 33rd and Wells Not sure of the spelling of her name. Very thorough and easy to talk to. Takes her time with her patients, also another doctor there, male don't remember his name

  • Preeti Ravenswood Superstar since 2003

I've been going to a great woman internist for 8 years, Dr. Mai Phan at 150 E Huron. She is affiliated with Northwestern hospital and accepts most insurance. She and her husband, Dr. Robert Lenet have their own practice. The nurses and front desk staff are great as well...very nice and professional.

  • Loop Internal Medicine - they are associated with Northwestern University and I love Dr. Suh.

  • john early ave resident for 10+ years

Dr Konstantelos associated with Northwestern Memorial Physicians group is great. They are located on Belmont.

I've been seeing Dr. Bednarz at Chicagoland Complete Healthcare for about a year. Although she looks like she's about 19 years old (she isn't) she is super smart, very competent and has an easygoing, albeit professional, approach. I hope she'll be my primary care doc for many years to come. Her practice is affiliated with Illinois Masonic Hospital and is about 2 blocks from the Wellington stop on Purple/Brown Lines. Yelp gives her practice top marks based on more than 20 reviews. http://www.yelp.com/biz/chicagoland-complete-healthcare-chicago-2

Wow, the reviews for Drs. Ruda and Bednarz make me VERY happy I found their practice. I concur that the support staff is wonderful, I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes for my appointment and I never feel rushed. Dr. Bednarz is thorough and takes the time to listen and address my concerns, no matter how minor they may be. I highly recommend CCH and Dr. Bednarz in particular.

  • I agree with whole health Chicago on Lincoln at Fullerton. Dr David edelberg and dr Casey Kelley (female) are the best docs around. Your appointment time is usually 30 minutes and they really listen and care about your well being. Another plus is that they are wholistic and have a natural apothecary along with other complimentary services to utilize all right there. I would be a mess without them. Good luck

  • I LOVE Dr. T at Lincoln Park family
Physicians. I had MRSA for years and he was the only one who figured it out!

  • Very happy with Dr. Peter Hill, part of the practice at 1333 W. Belmont others have referred to.

  • I really like Dr. J. Wesley Cook at Damen & Addison. He has a teaching practice, so visits sometimes take longer while the doctor-in-training is with you, but Dr. Cook is very outgoing and caring.

  • kt

I agree with the recommendation for Dr. Kowalski at the Advocate at Western & Irving. I've been seeing her for about a year and she's great, she actually returns phone calls and seems to care about her patients.

  • Dan S. Lifelong Chicagoan. Ravenswood resident. Father.

Lois Miller at Roscoe Village family medicine is our doctor. She is a lovely woman and a great doctor. Highly recommended.

  • I RECOMMEND DR KATHY BAILEY AFFILIATED W/ NORTHSHORE AND ADVOCATE LUTHERAN GENERAL TO NAME A FEW HOSPITAL AFFILIATES. YOU CAN SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT W/ DRS OF THE NORTHSHORE LOCATED ON DEMPSTER AVE. IN SKOKIE AT 847-967-5010. THEY DO PROVIDE WALK IN EMERGENCY HOUR SERVICE BUT YOU MAY MEET W/

HI! I have been very happy with Sheryl Murray. She is in north suburbs; I've seen her for years. What I like is that she is very thorough about checking for problems; she takes even little things very seriously. She is all about prevention. I hope that helps!

  • My doc is Meredith Belber. She's in Evanston and is affiliated with Northshore. She is competent, friendly, concerned, and human. She is amazing! 847-475-4555 to see if she is taking new patients.

  • Wow!!! So many wonderful responses and pieces of advice...thanks to everyone! I have a lot of phone calls to make :)

In case you're looking for a practice in the neighborhood, Ravenwood Family Practice is at 4600 N. Ravenswood and it's great. We see Dr. Cano but there are lots of great docs there.

  • Associates in Internal Medicine located at 211 E Chicago Ave are terrific. I've been seeing Dr David Oyer for over 30 years. He is now a boutique doc but worth the exra fee. Otherwise, anyone in the practice is good.

  • Patty Edgewater resident

For those who don't have insurance and need reasonably priced medical care, the Prime Care Centers (located throughout the city) are also great! They are always able to give me an appt right away - either that day or the next - and I only pay $40 a visit. Some people - depending on income or lack thereof - only pay $20 a visit. Nice clean facilities, too, and they don't make you wait all day.

  • Barbara in Ravenswood Ravenswood resident since 1984.

@cash, good to hear Dr. David Oyer is still practicing. I used to work in that building on the same floor as Associates in Internal Medicine and would see Dr. Oyer in the elevator lobby every day. Never went to him as my doctor, but he always seemed a very pleasant fellow.

  • Barbara, I am a 52 year diabetic and thanks to David Oyer, I am reasonably well with only a few bumbs along the way. He is amazingly well informed, attends meetings and publishes his studies. He has extraordinary bedside manner and really seems to care. I joke with him saying we grew up together. I formally went to Dr. Skom in the same practice who handed me over to Dr. Oyer. I worry DO will retire but he assures me he has one more daughter to get through college. I hope she choses grad school, too.

  • Barbara in Ravenswood Ravenswood resident since 1984.

Cash, I'm happy to hear that Dr. Oyer is keeping you healthy. I remember Dr. Skom as well. He was getting on in years when I last saw him (over 9 years ago) so I imagine he's retired by now. Nice to hear about Dr. Oyer after all these years. Be well.

  • I truly believe that many of the doctors at Swedish Covenant Hospital are excellent. :)

  • Dr. Skom has retired. Did you know his wife is a mystery book author?
