About filmings
Ever wondered if that really was that Christian Bale on your block? Or maybe you've been dying to find out what those camera crews were doing in the alley around the corner? In this section of EveryBlock, we publish recent filmings throughout Chicago.
The information comes from the Chicago Film Office and includes movies, television, commercials and still images. Each record includes the date and location of the filming and the name of the production (if available).
Note that the film office does not provide a list of all filmings in Chicago. Film office permits are issued for use of the public way (for truck parking and filming) but aren't required in other cases. That means some filmings — such as those that occur in private homes — won't appear on EveryBlock.
Also note that the Chicago Park District and the Chicago Transit Authority have their own permitting processes, so information for those filmings is not available from the film office.
Finally, note that information on a filming is only made available after it happens.

What else do filmmakers need to get permits?
The Chicago Film Office publishes information on procedures for filming in Chicago, including necessary permits and neighbor notifications as well as rates for police, fire, and streets and sanitation department support.
