  • Grand Crossing Lower West Side, New City ok'd for open space projects

    Under this proposal, the City and Chicago Park District would exchange parcels at 74th and Woodlawn in the Grand Crossing neighborhood in order to move the current Woodlawn Park across the streets to 7329 S. Woodlawn Ave. in order to redevelop and enlarge the park from .38 acres to 1.25 acres in size. The City would use the old park facility as part of a proposed affordable housing development project. The Park district has committed $400,000 to the park’s development.

  • 7313 S. Kingston Chicago Fire Department Firefighters and Paramedics deliver gifts during the Holiday Season

    Chicago Fire Department Engine 68, located at 5258 W. Grand Avenue, Engine 60, located at 1150 W. 55th Street and Engine 126, located at 7313 S. Kingston, along with the “Ignite the Spirit” organization, delivered holiday cheer and over 700 gifts to students and hospitalized children. They visited students at L.A. Young School and hospitalized children at Children’s Memorial Hospital, Comer’s Children’s Hospital and Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

  • 1700 block of East 71st Street Armed Robbery Incidents

    Unknown offenders order pizzas to be delivered to the 1700 block of East 71st Street. When the delivery person arrived, the two male black offenders displayed handguns, announced a robbery and took the victims money, jewelry and pizza. Additionally, unknown offenders called for cab/livery service from another location to take them to the 1700 block of East 71st Street and on arrival produce a knife and take the drivers money and jewelry. These incidents have occurred between 1:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

  • Grand Crossing Landmark district proposed for Cottage Grove

    Encompassing portions of the Chatham and Greater Grand Crossing communities, the proposed district reflects how the city's 1923 zoning ordinance promoted the development of long retail strips through local neighborhoods. The proposed district also reflects how neighborhood commercial development prospered near the intersections of local streetcar lines early in the last century.
