"The Milwaukee Avenue District – which began as an early trading post, and would later become a main commercial street on the Northwest Side – documents the development of a neighborhood over a half-century," said Mayor Daley. AIt represents the growth of the Wicker Park and Bucktown communities, and their relationship to the development of Chicago.@

City-Supported Developments Win Architectural Excellence Awards
La Casa Norte, Inc., a nonprofit homeless organization, received a grant of $383,917 to rehab a three-flat building at 3507 W. North Ave. into a transitional residence for 16 homeless youths ranging in age from 16 to 21 years. With a small budget, Landon Bone Baker Architects transformed the building into a functional, contemporary space with natural lighting and a rear garden.

Church, stable and bank approved as landmarks
The Receptory Building and Stable is located at 3015 W. Division St., on the city's Near Northwest Side, and is one of the oldest surviving structures in Humboldt Park. It is currently occupied by the Institute of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture. Built in 1895, the two-story structure was designed by the Chicago architectural firm of Frommann and Jebsen.
