Act One Cafe is 1330 w Morse. Is there something currently 2 doors down at 1334 w Morse?

  • PBarry Rogers Park since '61

That's the former restaurant next door, vacant for a while now. I saw the demolition permit here a few weeks back and wondered what was coming, hoping it wouldn't be a parking lot.

It's more transit-oriented development for Morse. With time, let's hope we can fill some of the strip-mall spots with more multi-story mixed-use buildings.

I had heard about something going in there. GOOD!!!!
More positive foot traffic will be produced.

    Looks GREAT!!!
I was sad to hear the building was coming down,
but this looks amazing. This will really bring even more life to that corner. Thank God!!!!

I would like to see some good stuff happen on the SOUTH SIDE of the street too. for the most part new development and good stuff has been happening on the North Side of Morse driving the bangers to hang on the south side of the street.

I noticed that the Flower Shop atleast on Morse is getting renovated too!!!!

Morse just keeps getting better and better and better.
I hope that the Bistro pans out at the old Dollar Days
and I hope some good new restaurant goes in where the old Magic Video was.

THis will put even more pressure on Melba and the Golden Mini Mart Building to clean up their act.

  • Have there been any public meetings on any of these planned projects? Are they required or needed? Are zoning variances involved?

  • Since the permit has issued I'm guessing it's a by-right development.

  • I think this building can be a good addition to the neighborhood (certainly better than what currents stands on the lot), but I would love to see a more detailed rendering of the facade. I'm also curious if there were any public meetings on these plans.

I didn't know a Bistro was slated for that spot Jeff. Any info. on it? (sorry must have missed that thread earlier)

This isn't a corner, it's an alley, but still very nice to see. A sign that the economy might be turning around. And I agree it'd be great if someone knocked down the awful strip mall buildings across the street from this location and put up something nice (even a mini-park would be better; if we're going to have drug dealers hanging around, why not give them nice trees, flowers and benches!).

The company that owns that building is now "Mayne Annex LLC" according to tax records. I'm assuming that is the owners of the Mayne Stage.

I am trying to place this. Is the parcel east of Reside just east of the alley next to the the theater?

  • PBarry Rogers Park since '61

Yes, lawfin, that's the place. See a Google streetview and get more info about the project here:

Just peeked at the zoning map online it appears it is part of a parcel that is c1-3 zoning. Though from the rendering it looks more like what you see in b-x style zoning

    timmers...
yep I mentioned alot. Maybe you missed it but Dollar Days bit the dust, its just across the street from the Pharmacy and a bistro has been confirmed by several sources as going in there.

Lawfin, its the two story commercial building just west of act one. It had mama fish in it.

  • Inactive user

Great thanks. Now hopefully in the not to distant future those awful single story buildings across the street will be similarly developed as well as that awful strip center with the awful pharmacy

  • Inactive user

@lawfin Yeah I think you mean vics pharmacy.
I stepped in there ONCE and it smells bad in there, the carpet looks to be rotten. I think the city should check that place out actually. Its disgusting and doesnt look to be a legit business.

I will get the morway laundrymat guy SOME credit, he painted his strip mall and he made the space that once was the magic video into a decent vanilla box in the hopes for a decent tenant.

But his cell phone store is atrocious and aforementioned vics pharmcy is blech.

Glad to see another improvement on Morse....MaMa Fish used to be the site of a GREAT Rogers Park eatery called Bul Gogi (probably misspelled) a super Korean place. The first Bul Gogi was on Glenwood just south of DUKE's (it'll always be Dukes) now
another Korean eatery is there...I just wish the fine gal who own's it could get some help in the kitchen. IT's slow.

Just thinking about Bul Gogi makes my mouth water! The Noon Hour Grill on Glenwood is an awesome replacement. It's not fast food, but it's GREAT food. Try the bi bim bop! I've got a friend that drives in from Oregon Illinois for it. Mmmmm...

  • Thank you, anonymous "Helen."

  • Looks like a great addition to the neighborhood!

  • Hmmmm I didn't know 1st floor would still be for commercial use. Wonder what they have in mind.
