I went shopping for a couch today and ended up getting nothing. We went to the room place but it was overly priced and the delivery was 130 bucks. Any good suggestions for a great couch but reasonable prices? We went to some other similar places but what their sales are you pay in delivery and vice versa. Would love some input :) thanks!

That delivery fee was outrageous. We got our last one at Room and Board. Don't recall delivery fee, but nothing like that. You might wast to check out Lazy Boy also. Good luck.

Try Furniture City on Harlem. They have pretty decent prices, free delivery and setup.

  • I have had a really good shopping experience twice at Roy's furniture in the Lincoln Park area. They did not have a Lincoln Park feel or prices (at least before their fire and rebuild) and had good selection and knowledgeable staff.

  • and...there is always IKEA....delivery can be pretty pricey...but their prices are great and the couches are decent quality,.

I feel your pain... Around thanksgiving We bought an American made couch from Art Van on Elston (south of Western). We have been very happy with it... Once it was delivered, we struggled to keep ourselves off it... So comfortable.

  • Another vote for Roy's! Last 2 big furniture purchases from there very happy.

  • We like Roy's too. Been since the fire and the new showroom is lovely.

  • value city furniture, golf mill or ikea

  • Roy's has a great selection and decent prices!

Have you looked into Idea Furniture at 6545 Irving Park Rd? It's right here in the neighborhood..... ;-)

We've purchased a couple of items from Roy's and have been very pleased. They have (2) locations. BUT the furniture we purchased from Room & Board has lasted over 10 years!!! (quality & style $$$)

  • Amplified new to the area

We also have seen some of the "staging" companies or services using this company http://www.baxtonstudiooutlet.com (the quality isn't that great but the price is - so it depends on the item) ;)

Not sure what price point you are looking for. I got my couch and accent chair from Carson Pirie Scott nearly three years ago and love them. Super comfy! They have a furniture gallery at their Edens location. Both are American made. I got them during a Labor Day sale.

We have had great results from Carson's Furniture (10 miles North) in Edens Plaza
    3232 Lake Avenue Wilmette, IL 60091 847-853-8092.

  • I recommend Cassona in Andersonville. http://www.cassona.com/

From the outside it looks too small to have much of a selection and the show room is on the small side. But they have a huge selection of pieces to order. We got a sectional sleeper for a lot less than anything comparable at Crate and Barrel, Room and Board or Pottery Barn. There is a long lead time because most of it is custom made. But the line we ordered from was all made in America and I like that. Plus they had great customer service. We have had the couch for 3 years now and really like it.

  • Pier 1 actually has a nice selection of couches at reasonable prices too, and the quality is good.

The absolute BEST prices in Chicago are at Furniture Outlet. We purchased our entire living room set for $1,000, including shipping. Our living room set includes: a big 3-person couch, a 2-person love seat, and a 1-person couch. All three pieces for a grand, and you can't beat these prices. You may see Furniture Outlet on your right-hand side driving eastbound on Fullerton Ave. right after the Elston Ave. intersection. The place looks closed. The real entrance is off of Elston Ave, and the entrance looks like you are pulling into an alley. In reality, you are actually pulling into their parking area. This place is very low key, not sure why though. We have had our couches for 2 years now. No problems, no issues. The selection is surprisingly decent. If you are looking for high-end furniture, Yes, go to Lay-Z-Boy or Room Place. If you are looking for a bargain, go to this place. The owner dude is chill, and if you can negotiate if you buy other things too. Also, they have a 4-star rating on Yelp with over 75 reviews.

Big Lots on Grand Ave was great too. They carry Ashley Furniture, Simmons, etc. Great prices too.

  • You can get some good deals in the clearance room at the Domicile warehouse in Lincolnwood, it's kind of tucked in the factory district near the Lowe's, at 3701 W. Lunt. It's hit and miss, but I have gotten a couple of really nice things there. The prices felt good for the quality and how well the pieces have held up against kids and pets.

Sears has outlet stores in Melrose Park and Niles, not sure if all of them have furniture but it is worth a call:

    Melrose Park, IL
    2065 George St, IL 60160
    (708) 216-2870 - Store #5640

    Niles, IL
8247 West Golf Rd, IL 60714
    (847) 470-0312 - Store #9785

I was at the Melrose location last weekend and being dragged there again today. I didn't see indoor furniture. Seems eerything for the outlets is online and searchable by location:

Sears hasn't sold furniture for many years, so there won't be any at the outlets.

@Portage Porker: They sell furniture online, I guess I just assumed they sell it in the stores, maybe it is only certain Sears stores that sell furniture:

The Store Locator indicates they have stores called Hometown Stores and there is also a category for Sears Grand Stores, maybe those have furniture:

  • We ended up going to value city furniture by golf mill. We tried furniture outlet and the service was awful. Not sure what happened there considering you all had good things to say about it. But yeah, guy named Daniel helped us big time. Got 100 bucks off the couch and 36 months no interest. The couch is a recliner with three seats and so very cozy. We are happy :)

Hey I'm back at this Melrose Park outlet right now. Today there is indoor furniture. There's three couches with matching love seats and easy chair. Couches are 399-449. Even leather for 449. I took some photos and can upload after we go out to eat. Think beige and brown. Not sure if its in the OP price range. Remind me about the photos later if interested.

    She's buying dinner tonight.

I've heard a lot of great things about this place. If this doesn't pan out for you, Carson's has a great showroom in Schaumburg. I got a 3 piece leather set (couch, chair and ottoman) for $1700.00 delivered, including warranties. Two years later, still perfect.

@pattymelt: Now that I think about it, they do have a few things up on the top floor. (Though most of the on line "pick up in store" items I clicked on said 3 weeks wait) So you are right as usual. ;-) We used to trek out to their "Great Indoors" store in Lombard. They had great stuff out there. It was always such a ghost town though.

  • arnie

There was a Great Indoors up on Waukegan in Deerfield too. I got some nice area rugs there.

  • Always loved Roy's, but haven't been there since they rebuilt. I will go there again in the future.
