I noticed an increase in police presence between Irving and Addison/Central and Laramie. Does anyone know what happened or what caused the increased patrol this evening?

  • Nice to hear they're out there policing! There was just a large graduation ceremony for new police officers in Chicago, maybe the 16th district is finally getting some of its manpower back.

Don't know but it might have something to do with the fact that the area is starting to look like North Avenue and Austin.

I think it has to do with the car dealership and the many attempts to steal cars in the area. They often sit on the corner of Irving and Laramie. They are patrolling the are more frequently.

True Dianer. Kind of strange now that you mention it but the people that make up a lot of the citizens around North and Austin. Really like Dodge Chargers, Challengers, and Jeep SRT8. I think I'm seeing a trend here.

  • I saw on another thread that there is a "mission" because of the four recent break-ins in the area. That is probably what you're seeing.

I think it's because of an increase of crime in the area.

It's because of all the Auto Dealerships located along Irving Park Road from Long East to Lavergne. Thieves have been breaking into the dealerships to steal cars from the lots.

  • It's nice to hear that they're concerned about the car dealerships! What about the rest of us? If they break into car dealerships in the middle of the night, nobody gets hurt. If they break into my house and I'm home . . .

    I agree with you DebbieM.

They pay more taxes and have more clout with the Aldermen than we do... sad.

  • sorry to hear they have clout, diet changes and limiting meat and seafood can help, they can take inflammatory drugs, but avoid aspirin because it can make the clout worse.

  • Police are only half of the equation to crime fighting/prevention. The other half are active community members who call them whenever they see something or someone suspicious no matter how minute it may be. Criminals start small and gradually build up as they get away with the crimes they are committing. A good example of that would be the Lincoln Park neighborhood.
