Smokey is solid grey except for a small white spot on his neck above his chest,he is my cat.Missing since May 2009,he was going to the vet and got scared on the elevator. He broke out of his carrier in the lobby and ran across the street thru the locked gates, heading towards the alley between Winthrop and Kenmore Ave.I have put up hundreds of posters, walked the streets day and night as well as using the humane trap, and still no one has seen my baby.I have talked to all my neighbors on Winthrop and Kenmore and they all say they will keep an eye out for him and still no calls from anybody.I have been told that cats do not disappear from the face of the earth by two very prominent cat behavior specialists at The Tree House Cat Sanctuary.I sincerely hope that if my neighbors have found Smokey that they will do the right thing, most of my neighbors have pets and say they know how I feel.Well it feels like my heart will never be whole again,I rescued Smokey when he was a baby from the abandoned garage on Winthrop and Ainslie before it was turned into new homes. So I AM BEGGING WHOEVER HAS MY CAT PLEASE GIVE HIM BACK TO ME,THERE IS A REWARD ON HIS POSTERS ALL OVER OUR NEIGHBORHOOD.

Have you checked all the local garages? Cats love to hide inside them and stay out of the cold.
I would say he's climbed a tree but in this weather I'm not so sure although it may not have been out of choice as sometimes a dog will scare a cat and they will run up to escape.
What I would do is go out very early in the morning or late at night when everything is quiet and there are no people around.
If he eats canned food take the can and hit it with a spoon calling his name loudly. Walk up and down the streets and alleys doing this and listen closely for a response like a tiny "meow." I found a cat doing this and she was way up a tree so high I couldn't even see her but I did hear a tiny "meow" from hitting the can as she was half starved to death. Nothing motivates like hunger!
    Good luck to you.
P.S. If he eats dry food then rattle the bag really loud but it has to be quiet outside for you to hear a response.
I bet he's in a garage and maybe trapped in same.
I had two cats who were trapped in my neighbor's garage once and I had to break the window to get them out as the neighbor was on vacation.

Hi Becky,I am so glad that someone has commented.I do go out looking and rattling bags and cans and calling him.I even know where to leave food for the feral cats that have been tnsr by the trappers in my area.I am very affraid that someone has either trapped him or is just keeping him,I really hope that someone looks at all the lost and found pet websites that are available because Smokey is posted on all of them even facebook.I know he was very affraid of people,he only let myself,my husband,my son touch him. When strangers came in he would hide until he was sure that they were gone.I hope that if someone has found him that they will at least try and look for posters in our neighborhood.Joan has told me to never give up and that she has known people that have got their cats back after one year,so I can't give up because I love Smokey just like he was my child,in fact I have raised him for eight years so he is my baby.

Sheila, you are a wonderful pet companion! You are doing everything right. Its really hard to get a strange cat to come to you. I bet he's still outside somewhere.
Did you say if you advertised in Craig's List? There are some fantastic animal people there who could keep an eye out for him.
Be sure and post here if you find him. I'm just sick that he might be out there in the terrible cold weather.
He might be trapped in a garage. In my old neighborhood (Beverly) stray cats often inhabited peoples garages - for months!
I hope you get good news soon!!

Hi Becky, yes he is on Craigslist, lost and pound.com,petfinders.com,facebook,lostandfurry.com,helpmefindmypet.com.I guess that is the reason I find it so hard to believe that no one has seen him or called me.I know that food is left out in the neighborhood by many people that care dearly even for the feral cats that have been trapped and returned to their territory.I have even trapped a few cats that have already been trapped and tipped on the left ear,I was told to let them back out where I got them and I still see them. They won't come to you but they will eat when you walk away,I also put some old clothes out so maybe they will stay warm,God I pray they survive.Smokey was always a very good hider when he was a baby and he knew my food call and only came out for me to eat three times a day,and then we had play time on his lot, then before I left he would go and hide in the garage till morning.I'm sorry Becky but the tears have started again!!!! Please write back anytime,I enjoy hearing from you.
