Get my awesome shrimp from Hagen's, but looking for a good place for Fish 'n chips. Thanks!

  • Try Vaughan's on NW Highway.

  • BellaV 1st time Homeowner in Jefferson Park since 2012

Galvins has a pretty great fish n chips.

  • BellaV 1st time Homeowner in Jefferson Park since 2012

But if you want the best fish n chips in Chicago, I recommend either Owen & Engine on Western or Duke of Perth on Clark.

You might want to read Galvin's Yelp reviews first.

  • Vaughans has the best Fish n Chips around, All you can eat on Fridays for $10, get there early.

Arnie- As per your advice, I checked out the Yelp reviews on Galvins. I only read the first dozen or so, but it seems that the general consensus was that the fish n' chips are delicious. Not sure what you're getting at.

I'll be sure to give Vaughn's a try too! I'm always open to new places!

  • Owen & Engine is my favorite. Also love the fish and chips at Big and Little's on Orleans with truffle fries instead of regular. They have malt vinegar ready at the tables.

  • call me Lou Jefferson Park Sox Fan

I 2nd Fish & Chips at Big and Little's. They now have a 2nd location.

  • Try Cullens on Southport, two blocks south of Irving. Next to the Mercury theater

  • Other good options in the neighborhood are Fifth Provence inside the IAHC (Revolution Brewery "A Little Crazy" on special this month), and McNamara's.

Blokes and Birds on Clark north of Belmont has an excellent version, served with split pea puree.

  • Vaughn's is pretty good & close by. Next to Smokey's, another good local place.

  • arnie

Bella, the most recent reviews consistently talk about slow service and that the staff is indifferent to anyone but regulars. They would have to be pretty good fish and chips to put up with all of that.

  • The VFW Hall on Archer and S Harlem has awesome fish. The Hall is huge and during lent always crowded, but there is always room for you!

I think that Galvin's either changed their chef or recepie. The last couple of times that I ate there the fish and Reuben sandwiches were different than in the past.

    For better or worse?

I preferred the first recepie, but I am glad to have the restaurant in the neighborhood.
